ex. Marilyn Dodge
Superb single crystal of Libethenite that is over 1 cm in its longest dimension. The major faces are smooth with good luster, while the longest faces are modified in a very interesting and complex stepped growth. You will not find many crystals like this in such size with such quality.
A HUGE single crystal for the species, showing incredible luster and a deep green saturated color. I have seen many of these over the years, the best purportedly brought out mostly by one mine geologist in the 1960s as I have been told (and see Min Record vol 9 #6, page 341 - 1978), but this thubmnail stands out to me as one of the finest examples I have seen for both the size of the crystal and its sharpness...but most importantly for the luster. With the total "package" of thos equalities, most people would guess at this for a primary malachite crystal, I think. But it is a shockingly large, complete, and beautiful libethenite from this, which is considered to have produced the best known crystals of the species. The crystal is a world class thumbnail specimen, complete all around and contacted, not broken, on the bottom From the collection of EJ Immelman.
4.6 x 2.9 x 2.4 cm. A very sharp, euhedral, exceptional crystal of this rare copper species, perched protectively in a vug in matrix, from old finds here. Ex. Martin Zinn Collection.
7.4 x 3.5 x 2.4 cm. Rich specimen of libethenite on a quartz matrix, from the type-local of Libethen, Slovakia. The crystals are well-formed and have a deep green color, really classic in style. The crystals also have a very nice glassy luster. Ex. Richard Hauck Collection.
4.0 x 3.3 x 3.5 cm. Here we have a classic Slovakian Libethenite that is loaded with sparking green micro crystals. The species typically forms from weathered Apatite crystals, and is one of the most distinctive and beautiful colors for a mineral species.
5.0 x 4.9 x 2.8 cm. Libethenite is an uncommon copper phosphate. This fine old-time specimen from historic Cornwall, England features a well-place vein richly lined with sparkly, very dark green libethenite microcrystals in a 3-dimensional matrix of massive, dense, rich copper ore. Accompanied by an expertly handwritten, faded label from an older collection. The collection this came out of was a museum stash dating to prior to World War I.
8.7 x 5.5 x 5.3 cm. This classic Slovakian Libethenite is loaded with sparking green, vitreous, orthorhombic crystals on matrix. Libethenite typically forms from weathered Apatite crystals, and is one of the most distinctive and beautiful colors for a mineral species. These specimens are not terribly common on the market today, and good Libethenites from the type locality are always in high demand. This piece comes from the Richard A. Kosnar Collection and the hand-painted label on the reverse side of the specimen states that it was collected in 1823.
4.5 x 3.8 x 2.3 cm. Three shades of sparkly green, orthorhombic crystals of libethenite richly cover the front and back of the undulating quartz matrix on this fine specimen from the seldom-seen Miguel Vacas Mine of Portugal. The green colors range from emerald-green to light green to greenish black. Extremely rich and highly representative for the species and locale. Ex. Wes Parker Collection.
8.3 x 7.2 x 5.2 cm. Sparkling, gemmy, emerald-green, orthorhombic libethenite microcrystals are festooned on the complimentary malachite crust on quartz matrix on this fine specimen from the Type Locality - Lubietova, Slovakia. Highly representative and very rich combination material from this famous locale. Ex. Wes Parker Collection.
3.6 x 2.8 x 2.0 cm. A fine old-time libethenite specimen from the uncommon East Gunnislake Mine of the famed Cornwall District. A sculptural, hollow vug in quartz and gossan matrix is lined with very sparkly, forest-green, microcrystals. Very rarely available material. Ex. Wes Parker Collection.
5.6 x 4.8 x 3.0 cm. A 1.5 cm, highly lustrous, very sharply terminated, dark green libethenite crystal is aesthetically set in a vug in this excellent specimen from an uncommon D.R.C. locale - the Luiswishi Mine. This is an extremely large, very uncommon and very well formed libethenite from any mine in the Congo. Ex. Wes Parker Collection.
Another superb Nasser thumbnail, with exquisite euhedral crystals to almost 1 cm, atop a rosette of larger, flat crystals. BETTER IN PERSON! 2.3 x 1.8 x 1.6 cm
A very fine, richly covered, old-time specimen of sparkly, dark forest-green, micro libethenite crystals in botryoidal clusters on malachite and gossan matrix from the TYPE LOCALITY of Lubietova, Slovak Republic. This excellent copper phosphate specimen comes with two old labels, including one from well-known New York City mineral dealer, Hugh Ford. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 6.8 x 6.2 x 3.3 cm
Superb single crystal of Libethenite that is over 1 cm in its longest dimension. The major faces are smooth with good luster, while the longest faces are modified in a very interesting and complex stepped growth. You will not find many crystals like this in such size with such quality. 2.6 x 2.3 x 1.3 cm
A very fine, old-time specimen of two vugs, richly covered with sparkly, dark forest-green, micro libethenite crystals in botryoidal clusters on malachite and gossan matrix from the TYPE LOCALITY of Lubietova, Slovak Republic. This excellent copper phosphate specimen comes with two old labels, including a century-old, Vienna, Austria label. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 8.3 x 5.8 x 4.0 cm
