This is a huge "book" of purple lepidolite, which crystallizes in super-thin layers (naturally, as it is a variety of mica) due to its atomic structure in which the atoms line up on a single plane. You can see into the faces of the "book", as it is somewhat transparent. Not only very interesting, but actually rather pretty! 11.4 x 6.8 x 1.0cm

We thought it would be fun to include two different forms of lepidolite in the same auction. As opposed to the flat "book" featured elsewhere in this auction, this is a specimen of "ball" lepidolite, that is layered like other micas, but instead of being flat, the layers create rounded forms. Same pretty silvery lavender appearance. 6.1 x 3.7 x 2.7cm

A DRAMATIC and STRIKING Cryo-Genie Mine CABINET specimen of two, beautifully crossed, lustrous and gemmy, green, pencil tourmaline crystals to 6.2 cm aesthetically lying on lustrous, translucent, smoky quartz crystals to 6.3 cm and cleavelandite and lepidolite matrix. This is an important and stunning combination piece from the Cryo-Genie and the minor contacting on the large smoky is certainly not detracting. Ex Korpi Collection. 11.5 x 8.5 x 5.8 cm

A BEAUTIFUL, gemmy, lustrous and pristine, doubly terminated, multi-colored tourmaline with sharp, purple lepidolite books on one side from the famous Himalaya Mine. Most of this fine crystal is a pleasing watermelon-pink, but one termination is VERY RARE, for tourmaline, YELLOW color (well, yellowy-green to be sure, but more yellow than you normally see). Old dealer stock of Dr. Gary Hansen and not shown since the early 1980s! 5.7 x 3.6 x 3.5 cm

A BEAUTIFUL and UNUSUAL, gemmy and lustrous Himalaya Mine tourmaline. This very showy piece is two-toned, watermelon-pink with a 3 mm thick, gemmy, green zone below the pink termination. There are a few glassy, purple lepidolite crystals scattered about, mostly on one side. The UNUSUAL notched termination has ANOTHER tourmaline crystal lying horizontally at its base! A single cleavelandite crystal is also found there. This gorgeous crystal is pristine, except for the broken ends of the horizontal tourmaline crystal lying in the notch. The backlit photo highlights the beautiful pinks and the green zone. 5.2 x 2.1 x 1.9 cm

Quite clearly a competition thumbnail from this most famous of all Brazilian mineral localities for tourmaline, dating to the famous find of the late 1970s. A pristine, transparent, cranberry colored, elbaite with good luster is joined at the base by very light pink lepidolite clusters. If I was starting a quality thumbnail collection, this easily could be my first piece. Wow! It is STUNNING and the color is briliant and so bright and clean, that it is easily seen with minimal backlighting if any. ONE OF THE BEST PIECES HERE; though a common species, of superb form! 2.0 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm

This large specimen must have TWO DOZEN gemmy pink tourmaline crystals on it! They range up to about 2 cm in length. Most of the terminations are intact! You can see a thick layer of lavender lepidolite around the edge of the specimen. 16.6 x 9.1 x 8.5cm

This is a large, pristine, unrepaired, perfectly terminated and wonderfully gemmy tourmaline crystal! It leans at a attractive angle against a smaller crystal (also terminated), with a perfect patch of lavender lepidolite accenting them at the bottom. The color is a bottle-green, with a hint of pink at the center. This wonderful tourmaline comes with an acrylic base engraved with its name and locality. 8.7 x 3.1 x 2.9cm

This monstrous old crystal, surely form the 1960s or perhaps the early 1970s, weighs in at 1500 grams ! It is an incredible showpiece GLOWING with juicy pink color: NOT the typical pale peachy or pink-orange morganite, but rather a rich, electric, sparkling PURE PINK hue like you almost never actually see. The glasssiness and transparency of the crysatl are phenomenal and you can literally look right into it. PICTURES DO NOT CONVEY the quality of the piece, though they are good shots and accurate nonethless/ Because of the size and shocking value of the color, it simply has to be seen in person. Within the morganite is a core of aquamarine, which you can clearly see through the overlaying pink. Also included inside are , at the edge of the aqua core, 3 sharp little purple lepidolite crystals! I have NEVER seen lepidolite so nicely included within a morganite as this. There is a small , shallow conchoidal dip in the top leading edge, but its not all that obvious visually. Of the 6 sides of the perfect hexagon, 4 are present and the lower two partially contacted, but again this does not detract visually. Certainly given the size and isplay impact a few small imperfections can be overlooked, especially at the price range since it is not priced to the moon. 14.5 x 13.7 x 6.5 cm

A showy, gemmy and lustrous, polychrome tourmaline on lepidolite matrix from the very famous Tourmaline Queen Mine of California. The body of the tourmaline is a gemmy, pastel-pink and is capped by a 4 mm, very gemmy, green layer. The pinacoid termination is frosted and the very trivial, termination edge wear is barely noticeable. The backlit photo highlights the color variations and crystal gemmyness. I got this from Ed SWoboda, who mined it many years ago 4.1 x 2.1 x 2.0 cm

A lustrous , translucent, color zoned, pink to green, elbaite crystal with multiple terminations is aesthetically wreathed near the base by a matrix of light pink lepidolite crystals. The color isliterally almost electric! It shimmers with a surface sheen that is most rare in tourmalines, and the contrast to the lepidolite crystals is striking. The elbaite is 7 cm in length from the bottom where it emerges from the lepidolite (you can see this from underneath), and the largest lepidolite reaches 1.7 cm in length. 7.4 x 4.2 x 3.5 cm

A showy and important CABINET combination piece from the 2003 find at the Cryo-Genie Mine of two indicolite tourmalines to 4.3 cm with glassy, translucent, smoky quartz crystals, purple lepidolite and milky-white cleavelandite. The upper portion of the tourmalines are very gemmy and lustrous and both have matte-finish terminations. Pegmatite pocket tectonics often cause disruption of the contents and thus some breaks in situ, in San Diego in particular. This piece has been expertly repaired once in the midpoint of the larger tourmaline but this is on the backside and you cannot see the line from the display face. this remains important because it is one of few matrix gemmy tourmaline specimens from the mine, and the tourmalines are quite showy as they peek above the matrix to the front. There is minor edge damage to one of the smokies - certainly does not detract from this very showy piece. The base and back have been sawed to enhance display so it sits nicely, just so. This is a VERY RARE San Diego specimen from a short-lived mine! Ex Chris Korpi Collection 12.0 x 8.0 x 7.0 cm

A gemmy (for the Himalaya) classic pink tourmaline, terminated, with a very pretty garland of lavender lepidolite crystals around the bottom. There is an unusual whitish half of the termination, but it is a natural phenomenon and not any sort of damage. 3.4 x 2.8 x 2.6cm
