This cluster of cream-colored kovdorskite on matrix comes from the huge alkali massif on the Kola Peninsula. The longest crystal is almost 2 cm and the crystals exhibit a glassy luster. This recently defined rare species (10 years old) does occasionally come in faint blue and pink crystals, but they are very rare. THis comes from a later pocket found about 6 years ago, which produced these exceptional matrix specimens richly covered in crysatls and among the most densely crystallized examples of the species. It is quite nice for the size, and somewhat more aesthetic in person.

4.1 x 2.4 x 1.5 cm. This splayed cluster of cream-colored, lustrous, glassy kovdorskite crystals flanked by sparkling druse of collinsite behind comes from the huge alkali massif on the Kola Peninsula. The longest crystal is 3.75 cm and thus near the record size of the species.

1.7 x 1.0 x 0.8 cm. This sharp, gemmy crystal is from the now-famous "blue pocket" where several of the larger crystals had a slight blue color to them, from the early 1990s as I recall. It is sharp, lustrous, and gemmy - and most people consider crystals from this pocket to be the best of species. Superb. Type locality.

2.7 x 1.8 x 1.1 cm. This crystal cluster has a slightly pink hue to it, and came out shortly after the species type find here, I would guess from remembering when these came to market. The crystals are sharp and lustrous and the cluster is complete all around. Type locality.

1.4 x 1.4 x 0.6 cm. This sharp, gemmy crystal is from the now-famous "blue pocket" where several of the larger crystals had a slight blue color to them, from the early 1990s as I recall. You can see a hint of this color at the base. It is sharp, lustrous, and gemmy - and most people consider crystals from this pocket to be the best of species. Although a notable crystal for qualities of lustre and gemminess, this sadly has a small ding on its termination. Type locality.

5.0 x 3.8 x 3.3 cm. Kovdorskite is a very rare hydrated magnesium phosphate found in only two localities in the world, both on the Kola Peninsula of Russia. This rich and excellent two-sided piece is from the Type Locality - the Kovdor Mine. Intergrown, glassy and gemmy, pastel-pink crystals densely thrust upward from the thin rind of matrix. All of the central, prominent crystals are pristine. From a find in the mid-1990s.

Large, lustrous, well-formed crystals for the species from a find in the mid-90s at this type locality for the species; which produced this new pale peachy-colored variety of kovdorskite. It is a big displayable specimen with lots of excellent crystals to about 1 cm. 6 x 6 x 3.5 cm

This is a cluster of parallel, glassy and gemmy, ivory-colored crystals to 2.2 cm in length. Large crystals of kovdorskite, a rare magnesium phosphate, are uncommon and come ONLY from this locality. This is a large, full sized thumbnail/toenail specimen and hosts as large a crystal as you can get in a specimen of the size - but they are large by any standard, as well (to 2 cm). From the type locality in the Kovdor Massif, Kola Peninsula, Russia. Ex Renato Pagano collection of Italy, in 2008

This splayed cluster of cream-colored, lustrous, glassy kovdorskite crystals flanked by sparkling druse of collinsite behind, comes from the huge alkali massif on the Kola Peninsula. The longest crystal is 3.75cm and thus near the record size of the species. While not from the 1980-ish type find here at this locality, this specimen is from a noted later find of the late-1990s that produced, in a small pocket the size of a basketball, the largest crystals of the species. A faint telltale blue hue, proves this (in the middle of the specimen, you can see it in the photo - there is a blue zone internally, visible from the backside), and was characteristic of that pocket. It is quite nice for the size, and somewhat more aesthetic in person. That being said, it is unarguably more aesthetic than almost any other but a few examples of this species, that could be had, the crystals are large, and the species is significant on its own merits. (TYPE and ONLY LOCALITY)
