6.9 x 5.4 x 1.6 cm. This vivid, sparkly yellow specimen features an incredibly rich coating of the very rare species jouravskite, in a carpet of microcrystals completely covering the (calcite?) matrix. This is a rare hydrated, calcium, manganese sulfate, carbonate that comes out only rarely from the Kalahari Fields. It is the biggest and richest piece I have seen in awhile, probably from the 1980s, and is from the Phil Scalisi Collection.

6.9 x 2.4 x 1.6 cm. Jouravskite is a very rare hydrated sulfate found at only three localities worldwide. Two are in the Kalahari Manganese Field. A "board" of massive manganite is strikingly covered on both sides with a vivid, lemon-yellow crust of fibrous jouravskite. Very highly representative and very rich for the rare species and from the N’Chwaning II Mine. The lemon-yellow color is much more vivid in person.

Brucite, Jouravskite - N'Chwaning Mines, Kuruman, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

This is definitely one of the lesser known species from N’Chwaning, which arguably produced the finest rhodochrosites in the world. However, who wants the common stuff, eh? This new find of lovely, translucent, pastel-colored brucite is just incredible for the species. Very nearly a floater, complete all around save for a small matrix attachment seam along the back, this is a steller miniature with great aesthetics! The yellow dusting is a bonus - microcrystals of the rare mineral Jouravskite 3.9 x 2 x 1.9cm
