A fine example of reticulated Cerussite with large, well developed bladed crystals coated with a chalky, stark white layer of Hydrocerussite (actually, it is probably just starting the process of truly pseudomorphing into the hydrocerussite and that layer is probably an alteration rather than a coating). 6.3 x 5.6 x 3 cm. This is an important combination specimen, in which you have several sets of complex twinned cerussites coated with the snow-white hydrocerussite. Ex. Willy Israel Collection.
MD-247854 - Cerussite, Hydrocerussite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia small cabinet, 6.9 x 4.8 x 2.3 cm.
6.9 x 4.8 x 2.3 cm. This is a really stark, dramatic cerussite specimen that looks much like bone, or the baleen teeth of a plankton-skimming whale if you have ever seen them in a museum, than like a natural crystal of a lead species. The crystals are very finely reticulated, and sharply symmetrical. They have a powder-white color and powdery texture that is due to a surface alteration to the related species hydrocerussite. However, there are a few small dings here and there which reveal bright, vitreous cerussite underneath, so this is a coating or a partial and not a full replacement. As a bonus, there are sharp, dark smithsonite crystals on the thin matrix plate, in association. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.

An excellent and showy specimen of floater, cyclically-twinned, gray cerussite crystals altering to hydrocerussite, showing partial alteration on the outside of the cerussite, from Tsumeb. The end-on shots highlight the intricate twinning of the crystals. Very minor edgewear is certainly not detracting from such an uncommon Tsumeb mineral in good crystals. 3.6 x 3.5 x 2.2 cm

Dundasite is a very rare lead carbonate species. This relatively large specimen hosts the richest single amount of Dundasite I have seen on a Tsumeb piece. Normally the mineral is white from other locales, and seldom found in such color intensity. This is therefore not only pretty, but is a major example of this rarity. It was in an old African collection, and later comes from the Marshall Sussman Tsumeb collection. What is more, the intense blue crystal clusters of dundasite are perched on contrasting, stark white crystals of reticulated cerussite. The unusual bright white color of the cerussite is due to their alteration to hydrocerussite - probably a partial alteration, if not quite complete. A major rarity, worthy of showing in a display collection as well - That is my favorite kind of rarity.
