D06-07 - Hureaulite - $ 750 Bull Moose Mine, near Custer, Custer Co., South Dakota, USA miniature, 4.5 x 4.2 x 2.1 cm
This remarkable large crystal is the best single hureaulite have personally seen from this mine, and I did handle almost every piece in the chapter on this locality illustrated in John Barlow's collection book. This one blows away anything I have had in that previous collection. The piece hosts a large, well-displayed crystal towering over the contrasting matrix - not just a large hureaulite, then, but an extremely aesthetic crystal overall. It is repaired, cleanly, to the matrix in a lock-fit repair line. The locality is long done in terms of producing its wonderful trove of world-class phosphates.
JWHITE-73 - Leucophosphite and Hureaulite - $ 750 White Elephant Mine, Cicero Peak, Pringle, Custer District, Custer Co., South Dakota, USA small cabinet, 9.8 x 5.4 x 3.4 cm ex. John White
Professor WL Roberts, THE noted authority on phosphates of the amazingly rich and varied deposits in Custer County, sold this to John White at Seattle Show in 1971. On the back of White's label, he notes that " Prof. Roberts says that this is one of the three best known specimens of Leucophosphite". The large, sharp brown crystals are robust and stereotypic for the species, and are not the typical micros! Whether that holds true still today, I am ot 100% sure about. However, surfing th eimage gallery on MINDAT shows that most exmaples are micros, or clusters of micros to 7mm. These SHARP, euhedral, obvious and eye-visible crystals individually reahc 3 mm or so. They sit perched in a very interesting matrix of finely reticulated heureaulite crystals which cross the protected cavity in this rock, in which the leucophosphite has grown.

MD-168108 - Hureaulite - - Archived Conselheiro Pena, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil small cabinet, 6 x 4.8 x 1.8 cm.
6 x 4.8 x 1.8 cm. An excellent pocket of well-defined crystals of the rare phosphate, Hureaulite. These crystals range up to 1.1 cm long, have beautiful and highly lustrous striated faces, and a deep vitreous pink color. A very fine, and important, large Miniature obtained from Carlos Barbosa. The crystallization here is VERY robust for the species and locality. Ex. Charlie Key.
MD-169942 - Hureaulite, Reddingite - - Archived Cigana claim (Jocão claim), Galiléia, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil small cabinet, 5.9 x 4.9 x 3.9 cm.
5.9 x 4.9 x 3.9 cm. This pegmatite is known for its suite of high-quality phosphate species, more than for gem crystals. It is very similar, in fact, to the famous Tip Top Mine in South Dakota for the major phosphate species found. However, hureaulite from this locality has a more beautiful, intense rich color and lustre, and is arranged in such pretty aggregates against contrasting lustrous brown reddingite, that I consider these to be among the more beautiful examples of the species. Usually you find the hureaulite dispersed as a flat carpet of small 2-5mm crystals on matrix shards. Few specimens have relief and well-defined aesthetics: but this piece has a sharp, superb cluster approximately 3 cm tall perched atop the specimen. It is 3-dimensional and leaps out.
MD-179853 - Hureaulite - - Archived Criminoso claim, Água Boa, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil small cabinet, 6.1 x 4.4 x 3.2 cm.
6.1 x 4.4 x 3.2 cm. This fairly rare manganese phosphate reaches its zenith in the pegmatites from Brazil, primarily in the state of Minas Gerais. On this matrix specimen, clusters of glassy, salmon colored crystals have congregated in rosettes, 1.0 cm across. Ex. Martin Zinn Collection.
MD-203241 - Hureaulite - - Archived Cigana claim (Jocão claim), Galiléia, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil cabinet, 14.0 x 8.5 x 6.3 cm.
14.0 x 8.5 x 6.3 cm. Hureaulite is an uncommon phosphate. This fine cabinet specimen features a well-placed, 6.1 cm vug matrix richly lined with glassy, pastel-pink hureaulite crystals on a quartz-rich matrix from the new find at the Jocao Mine, Brazil. The crystals are gemmy, superb and reach 5 mm.
MD-209949 - Hureaulite, Rockbridgeite - - Archived Cigana claim (Jocão claim), Galiléia, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil small cabinet, 7.3 x 6.4 x 4.0 cm.
7.3 x 6.4 x 4.0 cm. Hureaulite is an uncommon phosphate. This fine specimen features a well-placed, wide vug in the V-shaped matrix richly lined with glassy, pastel-pink hureaulite crystals on a quartz-rich matrix from the new find at the Cigana Mine, Brazil. The crystals are gemmy, superb and reach 5 mm. A surprise on the back features a vug lined with dark green rockbridgeite crystals, another uncommon phosphate.
MD-21584 - Hureaulite, Rockbridgeite, Jahnsite, Vivianite - - Archived Bendada Quarries, Sabugal, Guarda District, Portugal cabinet, 10 x 6.4 x 5.4 cm
An attractive specimen by any standard for the species, but ESPECIALLY for such an esoteric phosphate locality as this one! This piece features a curved blet of sharp red hureaulite crystals to about 6mm, associated with other phosphates, all on massive quartz. It was obtained in trade from the collector who told me that he got it several decades ago and it was one of the better such specimens. I certainly haven't seen anything remotely comparable on our market, to compare it to, and so I really tend to trust his comments in that regard. 10 x 6.4 x 5.4 cm
MD-231250 - Hureaulite - - Archived Mangualde, Viseu District, Portugal miniature, 5.0 x 3.7 x 3.1 cm.
5.0 x 3.7 x 3.1 cm. A brilliantly sparkling crust of Huréaulite crystals smothers the matrix here, making this a rare display-quality miniature for this seldom-seen phosphate locality. Minor sicklerite and rockbridgeite are also present.
MD-231261 - Hureaulite, Jahnsite, Mitridatite - - Archived Tip Top Mine (Tip Top pegmatite), Fourmile, Custer District, Custer Co., South Dakota, USA small cabinet, 5.4 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm.
5.4 x 4.5 x 4.0 cm. A rich specimen composed of sharp, large pink hureaulite crystals to 1 cm on matrix of other phosphates. The hureaulite is better in person, and superb for the locale. The matrix (mostly rockbridgeite) is rich with sparkling black jahnsite and tiny mitridatite crystals, as well.
MD-23705 - Hureaulite, Reddingite, Rockbridgeite - - Archived Cigana claim (Jocão claim), Galiléia, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil cabinet, 10.7 x 5.5 x 5.2 cm
An extremely rich and excellent CABINET specimen of highly lustrous salmon-pink hureaulite crystals to 8 mm with reddingite (brown) and rockbridgeite (black). The Jocao Mine of Minas Gerais produces some of the very finest crystals of these uncommon phosphates. Good rarity and also attrractive! 10.7 x 5.5 x 5.2 cm
MD-247737 - Hureaulite, Rockbridgeite - - Archived Cigana claim (Jocão claim), Galiléia, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil small cabinet, 8.4 x 5.8 x 3.5 cm.

This fine, 3-dimensional specimen is solidly covered with glassy, pastel-pink hureaulite crystals on a matrix of massive hureaulite from a recent find at the Jocao Mine, Brazil. The crystals are gemmy, superb and reach 5 mm. A large pod of layered, lustrous, dark geen to gray to black rockbridgeite is a complimentary stark contrast. Ex. Wesley Stark Collection. A good piece from finds of the 1990s.
MD-249651 - Hureaulite - - Archived Stewart Mine (MS 6162; Stewart Lithia), Tourmaline Queen Mountain (Pala; Queen), Pala District, San Diego Co., California, USA cabinet, 10.9 x 7.2 x 4.6 cm.
10.9 x 7.2 x 4.6 cm. An interesting, historic specimen comprising a solid phosphate nodule with layered sicklerite (brown or black on outside), and hureaulite (reddish to pink) inside. This was once thought to be a new species, and named in honor of the district as "palaite," though this name is now discredited. Still, an interesting historic oddity, and mineralogically interesting as such phosphate pods are rare in the Pala pegmatites. Ex. William Larson Collection.
