Mineral Specimens with Howlite

4.1 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm. A nodule of howlite, (Calcium Boro-silicate Hydroxide), from Nova Scotia, where the first specimens were described (it is named for its discoverer Henry How, a Nova Scotia geologist). Howlite is probably best known (unfortunately) for being dyed to very closely resemble turquoise, which often fools the unwary. However, here we have the color as it should be, in an unusually fine nodule complete all around. This specimen was in the Carlton Davis collection.
