D05-29 - Hibonite (floater) - $ 1500 SOLD Esiva, Tranomaro area, Departementa Amboasary, Anosy (Fort Dauphin Region), Toliara (Tuléar) Province, Madagascar (TYPE LOCALITY) miniature, 3.9 x 3.6 x 0.7 cm
A very large crystal for the species, showing great lustre and sharp hexagonal form. It is very lustrous. Significant piece from this old classic locality!
D10-43 - Hibonite - $ 1500 Esiva eluvials, Maromby, Amboasary District, Anosy (Fort Dauphin) Region, Tular (Toliara) Province, Madagascar (TYPE LOCALITY) miniature, 3.4 x 3.4 x 2.8 cm ex. Paul Stahl
Most hibonite is dull to matte finish. This is one of a very few I have seen with lustre and pizzazz to it! It features a sharp 3-cm cluster , shockingly lustrous, perched on matrix! It is actually somewhat attractive, and is a superb miniature example of this rare Aluminum-containing mineral species. (TYPE LOCALITY). Ex Paul Stahl collection
D10-44 - Hibonite - $ 2400 Amboasary, Anosy (Fort Dauphin) Region, Tular (Toliara) Province, Madagascar cabinet, 10.3 x 7.6 x 5.0 cm ex. Robert Nowakowski
A MAJOR example of the species featuring a 3-dimensional, cannon-shaped cluster of parallel-growth hibonite crystals sitting atop a well trimmed matrix (it sits upright on its own merits). The cluster measures just under 6 cm long, and is COMPLETE. Many large hibonites are not complete, but rather broken or contacted. This cluster shows slight bits of matrix at both ends, proving the natural terminations remain. From a more modern, but still scarce, location in the same deposit as that of the type material.
D47 - Hibonite - $ 200 SOLD Toliara Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 1.7 x 1.3 x .7 cm ex. Marilyn Dodge
These laminated blades have a superb luster and jet-black color. On careful examination, you can see a resplendent radial growth on the faces of the blades. An excellent thumb of a rare mineral, and of good size for the species.
HIBONITE - Hibonite - $ 95 SOLD Fort Dauphin, Toliara, Madagascar thumbnail, 2.5 x 2.0 x 1.2 cm
Thumbnail, 2.3 x 2 x 1.3 cm A relatively large hibonite crystal, showing one good face here, though it is somewhat lumpy on the backside.
MD-154674 - Hibonite - - Archived Amboasary District, Anosy (Fort Dauphin) Region, Tuléar (Toliara) Province, Madagascar thumbnail, 2.4 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm.
2.4 x 1.9 x 1.2 cm. Hibonite is an ULTRA-RARE rare-earth oxide with cerium and titanium, among other more common elements. This highly lustrous, sharply hexagonal, dark gray crystal is from the Type Locality area in Madgascar - the Fort Dauphin Region. This is a very fine, large crystal for the species. Ex. Carl Davis Collection.
MD-169922 - Hibonite - - Archived Esiva eluvials, Maromby Commune, Amboasary District, Anosy (Fort Dauphin) Region, Tuléar (Toliara) Province, Madagascar miniature, 4.0 x 3.9 x 0.8 cm.
4.0 x 3.9 x 0.8 cm. THIS IS BOTH LARGE AND OF INORDINATELY FINE QUALITY FOR THE SPECIES, truly shocking for its aesthetics and symmetry. It is a slightly convex, lustrous, jet black hibonite crystal from the classic locality in Madagascar. Most old systematic collections have one or two, but they tend to be 1-2 cm, clunky dull and matte in lustre, and a bit fatter and less symmetric. Ex. Gerald Herfurth and Paul Stahl collections.

RARE08-32 - Hibonite - $ 2400 Esiva, Maromby Commune, Amboasary Department, Anosy (Fort Dauphin) Region, Madagascar (TYPE LOCALITY) miniature, 4.0 x 3.9 x 0.8 cm
THIS IS BOTH LARGE AND OF INORDINATELY FINE QUALITY FOR THE SPECIES, truly shocking for its aesthetics and symmetry. And it stumps most people at our office. what is it? It is slightly convex, lustrous, jet black, hibonite crystal from the classic locality in Madagascar. I have never seen such a lustrous big one, except an old piece in a French museum as i recall. Most old systematic collections have one or two, but they tend to be 1-2 cm, clunky dull and matte in lustre, and a bit fatter and less symmetric. Frotn and back are shown.
