A "Thunder Bay"-style hematite-included amethyst cluster that is not from Thunder Bay! We acquired some of these specimens from a Canadian dealer, mined at the Diamond Willow amethyst mine in Ontario. Very sharp, lustrous and pretty! Shot in bright light to bring out the purple tones - not quite as bright in person (VERY similar to the familiar Thunder Bay clusters in appearance). 6.9 x 5 x 2.9 cm
An EXCELLENT specimen of highly lustrous, rust-red to metallic-gray, botryoidal hematite kidney-ore from the Luis Lopez Manganese District of Socorro Co., New Mexico. Quality material from this locale. Ex Ed Ruggiero Collection, 5.7 x 4.2 x 2.2 cm
A showy, very interesting and unusual specimen of lustrous, color-zoned calcite crystals from the famous San Antonio Mine at Santa Eulalia, Mexico. Hematite causes the beautiful butterscotch and rust-brown zoning. Very minimal peripheral damage does not impair this fine piece. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection of Winnipeg, Canada. 8.6 x 4.8 x 3.1 cm
A superbly lustrous and sharp, tabular hematite crystal with golden rutile blades nicely set as an acessory on both sides from Novo Horizonte, Brazil. This is really an excellent, large crystal for the species. 7.1 x 5.3 x 2.3 cm
Golden crystals of rutile jut from a base of lustrous hematite - these striking specimens are from recent mining in Brazil. 3.2 x 2.9 x .2 cm
This is a fine "Thunder Bay"-style amethyst with hematite inclusions from a lesser-known locality. It has the same beautiful mix of purple and rust tones that make these so popular with collectors. 5.5 x 3.5 x 3.3 cm
This is a fine "Thunder Bay"-style amethyst with hematite inclusions - not from Thunder Bay, however, but from a neighboring, lesser-known locality. It has the same beautiful mix of purple and rust tones that make these so popular with collectors. 5.0 x 3.8 x 3.2cm
Very much like the beautiful specimens from the nearby Thunder Bay locality - this is a cluster of sharp purple amethyst crystals with beautiful rust tones from inclusions of hematite. This cluster is actually complete all around, very much in form like the Uraguayan "roses". 5.1 x 5.1 x 2.1cm
Shimmering, golden rutile crystals project from a base of hematite of gunmetal luster. From recent finds in Brazil. 3.6 x 2.7 x 0.1cm
Long, shimmering golden crystals of rutile growing off a natural "base" of shiny hematite, from recent finds in Brazil. 3.3 x 2.8 x 0.5cm
Very similar to specimens from nearby Thunder Bay, this is a cluster of amethyst crystals given pretty rust tones by natural inclusions of hematite. 6.5 x 3.6 x 2.5cm
Golden, acicular crystals of rutile embedded in shiny hematite, from recent finds in Brazil. 2.9 x 2.4 x 0.2cm
Mined in the 1970’s, this is a pocket of andradite garnets with platy hematite crystals growing amongst them. An interesting Eastern European association piece of a combo I had not seen before, this was brought out by dealer Ross Lillie (from whom the exact info came) and surely came from a miner''s old private collection. 7.2 x 5.5 x 4.6 cm
A showy specimen of highly lustrous, rust-brown, hematite-tinted amethyst crystals to 1.5 cm on amethyst from the famous Thunder Bay District of Ontario, Canada. Ex Lewadny Collection. 6.5 x 4.2 x 3.5 cm
Two intergrown points of amethyst richly included with hematite with pretty combination of purple and rust tones. 4.5 x 3.9 x 3.1cm
