64AY - Amethystine Quartz Scepter on Hedenbergite-included-Quartz - SOLD Mega Xhorio, Isle of Seriphos, Cyclades, Greece large cabinet, 15.3 x 3.8 x 3.7 cm ex. Dr. Edward David
This is easily one of the most unique, novel, bizarre, fake-looking, and simply downright unusual specimens of quartz I have ever seen. It happens also to be from an old classic an dhighly desirable locale, too! A beautifully formed crystal of, translucent, pastel-amethystine quartz is the scepter atop a terminated shaft of translucent, green, hedenbergite-included quartz. When backlit, it practically glows with soft colors. The mineral gods were definitely working overtime to create this amazing, one of a kind, doubly terminated specimen. It is to me, one of the most striking pieces in this collection.
CH12-047 - Ilvaite with Quartz included by Hedenbergite - $ 2650 Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia A.R., China cabinet, 12.4 x 7.7 x 7.3 cm
This combination specimen features a showy ilvaite leaping out from a nesting of green, hedenbergite-included quartz crystals. The ilvaite is nearly complete all around, with just a few small contacts in the back. The ilvaite termination is sharp and tapering, also nearly complete (just a few contact spots in back side), and is nicely freestanding. Although some of the quartzes are broken, they provide a highly desirable (and rarely seen) color contrast, and have come to be considered the classic association for the best matrix ilvaite from this mine. This piece is very dramatic, in person, and is an excellent example for the new finds which, despite a few little bits of damage, really looks like it would be nearly priceless if from any previous ilvaite locale we have seen.
CH12-051 - Ilvaite with Quartz included by Hedenbergite - $ 2000 Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia A.R., China cabinet, 12.7 x 8.3 x 8.5 cm
This combination specimen features a spray of lustrous, showy ilvaite leaping out from a nesting of green, hedenbergite-included quartz crystals. The ilvaite is complete all around, with jcrystals to 4 cm in height (though they go down a bit deeper into a pocket). The quartz provides a highly desirable (and rarely seen) color contrast, and have come to be considered the classic association for the best matrix ilvaite from this mine. This piece is very dramatic, in person, and is an excellent example for the new finds here
CH12-054 - Ilvaite with Quartz included by Hedenbergite - $ 750 Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia A.R., China small cabinet, 6.5 x 5.6 x 4.2 cm
These are the most robust, large ilvaite crystals ever seen - even this piece is fatter and thicker than nearly all ilvaite from other localities I had seen before. It is particularly well-balanced for the size, with gorgeous, jet-black ilvaite with good luster. This is nearly complete all around 360-degrees except for a few very minor spots of damage (broken crystal tips), and has the complex multiple-termination style that is the less common of several habits from this new find. This was found in the fall of 2011.
CH12-055 - Arsenopyrite with Ilvaite and Hedenbergite - $ 3850 Huanggang Mine, Hexigten Banner, Inner Mongolia A.R., China large cabinet, 15.3 x 13.3 x 8.3 cm
This dramatic piece is from a special pocket found in early 2011, and to date not equaled from the mine. Many people are saying that these arsenopyrites, for luster and sharpness, rank among the world's best of species. In person, they have a pure silver color and a sparkle to them caused by minute surface detailing, like the skin of a lizard but much, much finer in scale. On this piece, the arsenopyrite is displayed dramatically upright, atop a natural pedestal of green hedenbergite and black ilvaite.
MD-113496 - Quartz, Hedenbergite, Goethite - - Archived San Antonio Mine (San Antonio el Grande Mine), East Camp, Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico cabinet, 11.0 x 9.1 x 4.2 cm.
11.0 x 9.1 x 4.2 cm. This plate of glassy, flashy quartz from the Glover collection is distinctive due to the rich inclusions of hedenbergite and goethite, which give the crystals a rich mossy color. Fine quartz specimens are unusual from the San Antonio Mine, and actually, except for the amethyst variety, are not all that common from Mexico in general.
