MD-37789 - Hauerite - - Archived Destricella mine, Raddusa, Catania Province, Sicily, Italy thumbnail, 2.7 x 2 x 1.9 cm
Hauerite is a very rare manganese sulfide, and this is an exceptionally large and sharp octahedron. It measures to almost 2 cm on edge and about an inch fully through the longest angle. The lighter than normal color makes this even more attractive (usually they are a more dull black in hue). 2.7 x 2 x 1.9 cm This Photo was Mindat.org Photo of the Day - 10th Oct 2008

MD-70395 - Hauerite - - Archived Destricella mine, Raddusa, Catania Province, Sicily, Italy thumbnail, 1.4 x 1.3 x 1.3cm
An extremely SHARP octohedral crystal of this very rare species. This is the classic locality for the species, too. It is VERY uncommon to find them in this size range, and also so sharply formed - it is indeed complete and perfect all around. Comes with oldstyle glass vial it has been stored in for probably 100 years! 1.4 x 1.3 x 1.3cm

MZTN-01 - Hauerite - $ 1250 SOLD Raddusa, Sicily, Italy thumbnail, 1.9 x 1.3 x 1.3 cm ex. Martin Zinn
A sharp, stereotypical hauerite of exceptional symmetry and a quite good size for the species. Not the largest, but certainly bigger than most one sees (averaging 1 cm). And, I am told that this material dates to the mid-1800s - certainly it is seldom seen on the market, and a good crystal like this is hard to come by All Content and Design ©1996-2010 The ArkenstonePowered by http://mineralwebsites.comBy-species Galleries | ||||||||||||||||||||||
