Gypsum from Gibraltar Mine (incl.

Obviously, this doubly-terminated gypsum crystal is from the famous Cave of Swords in Naica, Mexico. It is GEMMY AND TRANSPANRET, ALL THE MORE SO IN PERSON. There are some small areas of internal iron staining, but this is quite attractive in person as well. I have seen larger illustrated and even for sale (though not doubly-terminated), but the size combined with the quality and crystallography, is about as good as it gets...and it is still PLENTY big! This is a stunning example of natural crystallography writ large, and an old classic of high quality. 36.7 x 7.2 x 3 cm

Gypsum (Var: Selenite), Quartz from Roata Mine, Cavnic (Kapnic; Kapnik), Maramures Co., Romania [db_pics/mdpics/MD-40044a.jpg]

A dramatic piece with a super SHARP , WATER CLEAR , fat selenite crysatl perched atop matrix. Its perfection is really breathtaking, and that is not an exaggeration. I remember seeing Marty walk out of a room he got to before I did, in teh late 90s, with this piece. I loved it then and all the more so now, as it remains exceptional for the locality and really is a fine specimen by any standard as well. 6.5 x 4.9 x 4.5 cm

Gypsum (Var: Selenite), Quartz from Camp Bird Mine, Ouray, Sneffels District (Mount Sneffels District), Ouray Co., Colorado, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-40046a.jpg]

Sitting on drusy white quartz is a lustrous, well formed, doubly terminated, transparent, crystal of gypsum which is 7 cm in length. It is doubly-terminated and stands out very nicely from the matrix, making it an exceptional example for the locality! I mean, whoever bought a selenite specimen from Ouray for the SELENITE itself, before?! Normally its just associated with a more desirable mineral but here it IS the focal point. There is minor edge bruising, but it is insignificant. 7.8 x 6.4 x 2.1 cm

Gypsum (Var: Selenite) from Wattenscheid, Kassel, North Hesse, Hesse, Germany [db_pics/mdpics/MD-40053a.jpg]

This is a really neat gypsum specimen from a great locality! Several well formed, doubly terminated, lustrous, and transparent crystals have developed parallel, and slightly twisted growth around a center point. Displays very well! 6.5 x 3.9 x 2.3 cm

Gypsum (Var: Selenite), Quartz, Anhydrite from Rio Grande do Sul, South Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-40098a.jpg]

A colorless, and transparent, upright, 4 cm crystal of WATER CLEAR gypsum sits on chalcedony matrix adjacent to white, hollow quartz casts after Anhydrite . The combination of shapes, clarity and species in an aesthetic manner make for a fine specimen. It is just mesmerizing to look at this assemblage, and though it is pricey, it is also very unique. 6.2 x 5.7 x 4.2 cm

Pure crystallographic perfection! This single, complete, colorless, floater is transparent, and almost 1 inch thick. If this specimen had been available 200 years ago, Hauy would have constructed a wood model of it. 8.2 x 3.2 x 2.1 cm

Golden, transparent twins of gypsum sticking up off a complete ball of smaller gypsum twins, all a floater! These unique specimens are found in the clay of ancient Red River water beds outside Winnipeg. They are collected from a spillway cut under license and permit, and recently i am told that production went to nothing and more haven''t come out in several years. 5.1 x 4.4 x 3.8 cm

An unusual and showy combination specimen from the famous Black Pine Mine of Montana. Turquoise-green philipsburgite - this is the TYPE LOCALITY, coats a pristine quartz crystal on matrix. Green microcrystallized mimetite and selenite crystals are nicely set on the specimen. This is a RARE COMBINATION piece especially for the mimetite 2.7 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm

Pyrite, Enargite, Gypsum from Butte District, Silver Bow Co., Montana, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-41657a.jpg]

An EXCELLENT, old-time Butte specimen of lustrous, mirror-finish, brass-yellow, partially iridescent pyritohedrons to 1.2 cm with lustrous, iridescent purple, enargite crystals to 0.7 cm. The snow-white cluster of selenite blades really adds character to this piece, which is glued to a cut piece of gold-painted plywood. The scattered damage to this classic Butte combination piece is certainly not detracting. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 7.1 x 5.2 x 4.0 cm

A very showy CABINET-SIZED crust covered with lustrous, translucent, colorless, ramshorn gypsum crystals to 1.9 cm from an unknown Arizona locality. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection. VERY unusual, I think! 10.4 x 5.6 x 3.3 cm

Gypsum from Lake Gilles, Corunna Station, Lake Gairdner - Gawler Ranges area, South Australia, Australia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-43254a.jpg]

A HIGHLY UNUSUAL, nearly transparent, colorless and doubly terminated hourglass twinned gypsum crystal from the famous Lake Gilles of South Australia, Australia. Lake Gilles produces some of the most unusual gypsum crystal forms in the world. A couple of trivial edge bruises certainly do not detract from this strange-looking specimen. See the Mineralogical Record article in the May-June, 1982 issue, Vol. 13, No. 3. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection of Winnipeg, Canada. 8.8 x 4.5 x 3.7 cm

A STRIKING, floater, CABINET specimen of lustrous, transparent, golden-amber gypsum blades to 7.0 cm on a matrix of smaller gypsum crystals from the famous Red River Floodway of Canada. Unusually large and fine specimen for the locality with very, very few broken crystals and bruised edges. Exceptional material from the Lewadny Collection. He selfcollected these! 11.5 x 7.5 x 5.1 cm
