Bright, eye-visible, canary-yellow microcrystals of this very rare mineral species, nicely contrasted on malachite!
4.3 x 4.2 x 3.2 cm. An exceptionally rich specimen featuring lemon-yellow, sub-mm crystals of the rare species Guilleminite on malachite. TYPE LOCALITY.
12 x 8 x 6 cm. Once in the 1970s this mine produced these incredible "puffballs" of radial Cuprosklodowskite clusters to about 1 cm, dusted with yellow Guilleminite.
9 x 6 x 6 cm. A large Cuprosklodowskite vug filled with very well formed dark green Vandenbrandeite crystals. These are dusted over with the rare uranium selenite Guilleminite in good yellow crystals. Such association is not common. Musonoi is the type locality for Guilleminite and in this specimen the crystals are very well formed but under one millimeter.
4.1 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm. An interesting combination specimen hosting two very rare selenites, Demesmaekerite and yellow Guilleminite. The Guilleminite is micro crystalline but the Demesmaekerite is present in well formed crystals: Some are free standing and reaching 1 mm. The combination is almost unheard of. The matrix is composed of Malachite and Selenium-rich Digenite. This mineral is the source of the selenites in Musonoi. This specimen was recovered during the removal of the U-dump in the early 1990’s. Musonoi has ceased producing minerals since then. Note that Musonoi is the type locality for both species.
5.0 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm. This is a great combination piece containing 5 minerals. The most surprisingly spectacular are the blood red Wulfenite crystals in a prismatic habit, up to 1 mm in size sitting on a carpet of green velvet Malachite. Wulfenite is rare in Katanga (only 2 valid localities for this huge province) and in Musonoi they are at their best. They are associated with well terminated and bright yellow Kasolite crystals reaching 2 mm in size. Some are showing phantom growth. Also present are green, transparent platy Torbernite crystals reaching 4 mm on edge. The edges of the Torbernite are worth a closer look - some of them are the matrix for very small Guilleminite crystal clusters. This specimen was recovered during the removal of the U-dump in the early 1990’s. Musonoi has ceased producing minerals since then. Musonoi is the Type Locality for Guilleminite. Nothing has come out of Katanga for more than 15 years, except for Malachite and Chrysocolla.
2.7 x 2.1 x 1.0 cm. This is a very fine example of this very rare selenite from its type and best locality. The Guilleminite shows as long and slender yellow crystals contrasted with Malachite. Specimens with this richness are very uncommon and preserved in good shape even rarer. It comes from a single pocket found during the removal of the U-dump in the early 1990’s. Musonoi is the Type Locality for Guilleminite. Nothing has come out of Katanga for more than 15 years, except for Malachite and Chrysocolla.
Bright, eye-visible, canary-yellow microcrystals of this very rare mineral species, nicely contrasted on malachite! 4.5 x 3 x 2.1 cm
Exceptionally rich specimen featuring lemon-yellow, sub-mm crystals of the rare species Guilleminite , on malachite. TYPE LOCALITY. (Sold now to the Bill Pinch Collection - Bill provided me help in grading and verifying these specimens, for which I am thankful.)
Cuprosklodowskite is a classic, highly desirable, and bluntly beautiful species we all know and love in its typical form as elongated acicular crystals from the classic finds here. However, I am told that once in the 1970s this mine produced these incredible "puffballs" of radial Cuprosklodowskite clusters to about 1 cm, dusted with yellow Guilleminite. I had only seen one such piece before, and here is the second I have ever had the thrill of seeing. The aesthetics of this style are really mesmerizing in preson, and the photos just do not capture the depth of color and dimension it presents. It is one of the most visually stunning pieces I have had, I will say. The pocket has protected these fragile crystals from damage, and so the condition is simply incredible, given this lucky feature.
Interesting combo specimen which hosts two very rare selenites, Demesmaekerite and yellow Guilleminite. The Guilleminite is micro crystalline but the Demesmaekerite is present in well formed crystals: Some are free standing and reaching 1 mm. The combination is almost unheard of. This is a puzzle! It is a Great combo piece containing 5 minerals. The most surprisingly spectacular are the blood red Wulfenite crystals in a prismatic habit, up to 1 mm in size sitting on a carpet of green velvet Malachite. The edges of the Torbernite are worth a closer look - some of them are the matrix for very small Guilleminite crystal clusters. Fantastic under the scope, you can look for hours to all what is hiding on this specimen. This specimen was recovered during the removal of the U-dump in the early 90ís. Musonoi has ceased producing minerals since then. Musonoi is the Type Locality for Guilleminite. Take advantage of this offer because nothing is coming out of Katanga anymore since more than 15 years, except for Malachite and Chrysocolla.
