D05-128 - Groutite - $ 125 SOLD Robert Mine, Crosby, Cuyuna Range, Minnesota, USA small cabinet, 7.2 x 4.8 x 5.2 cm
SUPERB CRYSTALS for the species from a remote but important locality for the reason that it produces such good groutites! These lustrous, bladed crystals reach to 4mm in size. The jet-black crystals are razor-sharp, and they have a mirror-like luster to them that is reminiscent of the finest black Andradite garnets. This is a very fine thumbnail that is actually better in person. Comparing these crystals to others you have seen of the species will show just how outstanding they really are. This small, defunct locality produced in the past one pocket which , for crystal size and distinction of habit, are surely the worlds best of species.
MD-114269 - Groutite - - Archived Robert Mine (Roberts Mine; Kennedy Mine), Cuyuna Range, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, USA small cabinet, 5.1 x 4.3 x 4.0 cm.
5.1 x 4.3 x 4.0 cm. Super-lustrous, jet-black groutite crystals richly line two larger vugs and smaller vugs in a very interesting quartz and massive manganese matrix from a mine near the Minnesota type locality. The box work quartz "cap" on the top of the piece is striking. This is a very fine specimen of the species from a famous lucky strike in the 1980s.
MD-122969 - Groutite - - Archived Black Water Mine, Black Mesa Basin, Apache Co., Arizona, USA cabinet, 12.3 x 3.6 x 2.9 cm.
12.3 x 3.6 x 2.9 cm. Superb, lustrous needles of groutite, to 4 mm, RICHLY cover both sides of CABINET-SIZED quartz-replaced petrified wood! This specimen is from a remarkable and so far unique find in 1975. A miner who’d worked in the area for years brought in a small lot of a dozen specimens to a rock shop owned by Lolette Dalbeck in Ridgecrest, California. This would be one of the larger specimens. It is REALLY bizarre material for the species! Ex. Stephen Chamberlain Collection.
MD-132454 - Groutite - - Archived Robert Mine (Roberts Mine; Kennedy Mine), Cuyuna Range, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, USA small cabinet, 7.5 x 6.7 x 4.2 cm.
7.5 x 6.7 x 4.2 cm. Super-lustrous, jet-black groutite crystals richly line a vug in a very interesting quartz and massive manganese matrix from a mine near the Minnesota type locality. This is a very fine specimen of the species from a famous lucky strike in the 1980s. Rare on the market!
MD-137990 - Groutite - - Archived Robert Mine (Roberts Mine; Kennedy Mine), Cuyuna Range, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, USA small cabinet, 6.0 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm.
6.0 x 4.0 x 3.5 cm. Two connected clusters of super-lustrous and sharp, jet-black groutite crystals richly cover a sculptural arrowhead-like matrix of hematite with a bit of quartz from a mine near the Minnesota type locality. This is a very fine specimen of the species from a famous lucky strike in the 1980s. Rare on the market! The rosette is very showy.
MD-20683 - Groutite - - Archived Robert Mine (Roberts Mine; Kennedy Mine), Cuyuna Range, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, USA thumbnail, 2.1 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm
As far as crystal form, size, and display quality go, this is hands-down one of the finest examples of this rare species that I have ever laid hands on. It is attractive AND superb for the species...always the best combo! 2.1 x 1.6 x 1.5 cm
MD-21344 - Groutite - - Archived Black Water Mine, Black Mesa Basin, Apache Co., Arizona, USA miniature, 5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm
Superb elongated crystals of groutite, to 6 or 7 mm, tucked safely into crags of quartz-replaced petrified wood! I have seen just 3 specimens of this material before, and in every case it sold immediately - this is rare, hard to obtain material. Courtesy of Carol Frey: This specimen is from a remarkable and so far unique find in 1975. A miner who'd worked in the area for years brought in a small lot of a dozen specimens to a rock shop owned by Lolette Dalbec in Ridgecrest, California. 5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm
MD-215144 - Groutite - - Archived Emilie Mine (Bülten-Adenstedt Mine), Peine, Lower Saxony, Germany cabinet, 11.1 x 5.6 x 5.4 cm.
11.1 x 5.6 x 5.4 cm. This is an outstanding specimen of crystallized groutite in huge crystals and in a rich quantity, as well. The cluster of crystals measures 3.5 x 3 cm and fills half of a hollow vug inside this manganese nodule (part remains packed with hardened kaolin clay). The overall specimen is important for the species, but also interesting for the environment, and how it shows the crystals formed inside a hollowed nodule of the manganese. Groutite seldom forms such large crystals, nor such rich masses.
MD-21673 - Groutite - - Archived Robert Mine (Roberts Mine; Kennedy Mine), Cuyuna Range, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, USA thumbnail, 2.5 x 2 x 1.8 cm
SUPERB CRYSTALS for the species from a remote but important locality for the reason that it produces such good groutites! These lustrous, bladed crystals reach to 4mm in size. 2.5 x 2 x 1.8 cm

3.6 x 3.0 x 2.3 cm. Groutite is a rare manganese oxide. Lustrous needles of groutite, to 3 mm, are nicely scatttered on the brick-red, quartz-replaced petrified wood. This specimen is from a remarkable and so far unique find in 1975. A miner who’d worked in the area for years brought in a small lot of specimens to a rock shop owned by Lolette Dalbeck in Ridgecrest, California, who then dispersed them. Ex. Mullane Collection.
MD-243487 - Vesuvianite, Groutite - - Archived Jeffrey mine (Jeffrey quarry; Johns-Manville mine), Asbestos, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada small cabinet, 6.1 x 3.5 x 3.4 cm.
6.1 x 3.5 x 3.4 cm. This large and undamaged matrix specimen is covered with gemmy, lustrous, apple green crystals of vesuvianite, to 2.0 cm in length. There are also elongated 2mm crystals of an opaque, dark green, mineral scattered on several vesuvianite crystals, which have been analyzed as acicular groutite, a manganese oxide. This is a very good, relatively large specimen anyways, but the groutite adds a neat touch.
MD-243489 - Vesuvianite, Groutite - - Archived Jeffrey mine (Jeffrey quarry; Johns-Manville mine), Asbestos, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada small cabinet, 6.2 x 4.0 x 2.3 cm.
6.2 x 4.0 x 2.3 cm. This is a cluster of gemmy, apple-green crystals of vesuvianite, to 1.5 cm in length, with exemplary lustre like glass. The cluster is an extravagant forest of them, sticking out all over. Many are translucent, more so than usual. The piece also hosts a few acicular crystals of groutite, to 1.5 mm in length.
MD-243490 - Vesuvianite, Groutite - - Archived Jeffrey mine (Jeffrey quarry; Johns-Manville mine), Asbestos, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada small cabinet, 8.0 x 5.6 x 2.6 cm.
