With the mine now closed, there has been a big scramble to snap up any specimens of Jeffrey Mine garnets remaining on the market. This is a plate covered with super-lustrous crystals of a VERY pretty , light sherry color. The crystals are not large, but they are densely intergrown and completely cover the face of the matrix with a transparent, sparkling sheet of garnets! In very fine shape, with only one bruise that is not very noticeable, this is definitely one of the more attractive such examples I have seen recently - growing scarce, since the mine closed 2 years ago now. 7.5 x 5.2 x 3.5 cm
This is a BIG, complete, floater crystal of yellow grossular garnet from an exciting new find in Mali. It has a waxy luster, and TEXTBOOK DODECAHEDRAL FORM! Could serve as a classroom model! 3.4 x 3.4 x 3.2 cm
One of two specimens from this exciting new find in this auction - this one, featuring two intergrown crystals, with waxy luster and sharp faces - a complete floater. 4.4 x 3.2 x 2.7 cm
Three yellow grossular garnets from the exciting new find in Mali. 2.6 x 2.0 x 2.0 cm, 2.4 x 2.2 x 2.0 cm, 2.3 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm
A large and excellently-formed yellow grossular garnet from the exciting new finds in Mali! This floater is complete all around, with little garnets growing on a couple of its faces. 2.8 x 2.6 x 2.5 cm
One of two Lake Jaco grossular specimens in this auction, this one distinctive for having a single large, compound crystal with a pretty "stacked" form, and unusual translucency, perched right atop the matrix! 3.7 x 2.9 x 2.1 cm
From the exciting new finds in Mali, two BIG, FINE intergrown crystals of textbook form, with the pretty translucent acid-yellow color that makes these so attractive. 3.9 x 2.6 x 2.5 cm
A grossular garnet of fine quality, not the usual opaque dull pink but really nice and red, and translucent, from Mexico. The crystal measures 1.5 cm. Other partial and complete crystals are also embedded in the matrix. 5.6 x 4.3 x 3.1 cm
A grossular garnet measuring 0.7 cm (with a handful of smaller ones) on a beautiful matrix of blue calcite! An uncommon specimen from Kenya. 4.2 x 3.7 x 3.3 cm
A rich and uncommon Italian alpine specimen of gemmy little hessonite garnets intermixed with bladed, transparent diopside crystals. This European specimen came with a collection card showing it to have been purchased in Neuhausen, Germany in 1967. 7.8 x 5.9 x 5.3 cm
What a RARE THING to find on the market - an old North Carolina hessonite specimen with literally DOZENS of crystals in multiple pockets! Many of these crystals measure to over one centimeter and are a lustrous and sharp as glass! The pockets are on both the front and back side of this large matrix. The crystals have a very pretty burgundy-wine color. 15.1 x 9.3 x 9.3 cm
Two beautifully-formed yellow grossular garnets from the exciting new finds in Mali! This floater specimen of two intergrown crystals is complete all around. Fine example from the find! 3.7 x 2.8 x 2.4 cm
A WHOPPER, TEXTBOOK crystal of yellow grossular garnet, a floater (complete all around) intergrown with a smaller crystal. Fine example from this exciting new find - this crystal has perfect, symmetrical form right out of a crystallography textbook! 4.2 x 3.1 x 2.5 cm
The matrix here is covered with light sherry-colored crystals grossular - from the Jeffrey Mine, recently closed seemingly for good, causing a scramble to buy specimens from this classic locality! 7.4 x 5.8 x 4.2 cm
A SUPERB plate of classic, very gemmy, cinnamon-orange grossular garnet crystals on matrix from the famous and now-closed Jeffrey Mine of Canada. Great striations. Ex Royal Ontario Museum collection with label. 5.1 x 5.0 x 1.7 cm
