Grossular from Jeffrey mine (Jeffrey quarry; Johns-Manville mine), Asbestos, Les Sources RCM, Estrie, Québec, Canada [db_pics/mdpics/MD-62413a.jpg]

With the mine now closed, there has been a big scramble to snap up any specimens of Jeffrey Mine garnets remaining on the market. This is a plate covered with super-lustrous crystals of a VERY pretty , light sherry color. The crystals are not large, but they are densely intergrown and completely cover the face of the matrix with a transparent, sparkling sheet of garnets! In very fine shape, with only one bruise that is not very noticeable, this is definitely one of the more attractive such examples I have seen recently - growing scarce, since the mine closed 2 years ago now. 7.5 x 5.2 x 3.5 cm
