This is an absolute MONSTER crystal of one of the most sought-after gem varieties around - the very rare tsavorite garnet, which comes from the Tsavo National Park in Tanzania. While is is obviously not clear and gemmy, please keep in mind that even a very small gemmy tsavorite garnet is extremely expensive. And this thing is FOUR CENTIMETERS ACROSS! Not only that, but this crystal is not ugly or opaque, either. It IS translucent to transparent, and a fine bright grassy green. 11.6 x 7.5 x 4.0cm
A truly unusual piece the likes of which I have not seen before, with multiple colors within the same crystal. Most larger crystals, over 1 cm, show green edges around pink-orangey cores. The garnets are perched on thick diopside crystals. There is admittedly some minor damage, but in context to the other qualities of the piece, its not important in context. Its very weird, and I have never seen one like it.... 7.1 x 6.4 x 3.1 cm
A shockingly aesthetic specimen that can be a miniature or, with slight trim, a thumbnail to die for! This mine is closed and specimens of this calibre are simply unobtainable, and have been for some time. This piece features a stark, isolated, 1.3 cm crystal with top color and glassiness. It is so transparent that you can see right through to the matrix underneath! 3.4 x 2 x 0.9 cm
We tried to photograph this old Mexican specimen twice to capture the luster, but to no avail. Suffice it to say that it IS QUITE lustrous, in addition to its many other merits – the most obvious being its prodigious size! But more than that, the crystal is complete all the way around (matrix contact only on the very back, giving it a fine display face). And, it has wonderful salmon-pink color and SHARP faces. Just a REMARKABLE crystal specimen of a size that really is amazing considering it has survived intact. 7 x 5 x 4.5 cm
With the Jeffrey closed now, specimens have been swept off the market, and there are just not many around to be had. This pretty grossular garnet specimen features five gemmy crystals of grossular, the largest a full centimeter, on a pretty matrix of light green diopside crystals. The back side of the specimen also has grossulars on diopside, indicating that both sides were exposed in the pocket. 4.0 x 2.7 x 1.3cm
An OUTSTANDING, OLD-TIME Italian combination piece from a famous locality, Val D''ala. This beautiful, undamaged piece is covered with gemmy, green diopside crystals to 1.3 cm, lustrous and gemmy, orange grossular garnets to 2 mm and accordian-like books of green clinochlore. This well-documented piece comes with 5 old labels, the oldest dating to 1850! Ex Richard Hauck Collection. This is the best documented Hauck piece, to date, that we have offered at auction. 7.4 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm
This superb miniature is from a rare, small find of about 6 years back. It features mint-green grossular garnets ON tanzanite matrix! The garnets are good in and of themselves, and of quite high quality for the location. The combination, though, is just unique so far as i know. 3.5 x 2.7 x 2 cm
A LARGE PLATE of the prized sherry-colored grossular garnets that have pretty much disappeared from the market since the recent closing of the Jeffrey! This plate is completely covered with gemmy crystals to around 0.5 cm. They have wonderful luster, with light flashing in all directions off the crystal faces. These are getting harder to obtain (and more expensive) every day! 7.1 x 6.3 x 2.1cm
You have seen these garnets before, but almost all are rather opaque and pink. Very rarely, they are a deep red, and actually rather gemmy - like this one! An exceptionally high-quality thumbnail representative for this find. 2.5 x 1.9 x 1.5cm
A GEM, 2.57 carat, grass-green tsavorite garnet crystal from the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. Tsavorite is the chromium-rich variety of grossular garnet and is considered to be the most valuable garnet varietal for gemstone-cutting. 0.8 x 0.7 x 0.5 cm
These already-rare bright green Jeffrey Mine grossulars have virtually DISAPPEARED since the closing of the mine. Now and then, you will find a little specimen with tiny crystals, but not sizeable crystals such as this (to .45 mm), with the TOP glowing green color and gemminess! As hard as it is to find one of these now, it will only get harder. Although small as a specimen, this is of truly superior quality! 2.5 x 2.4 x 1.3 cm
We've been trying to lay our hands on every affordable specimen of garnet from the Jeffrey Mine we can since the closing of the mine and the drying up of the supply. This specimen has gemmy crystals to 0.7 cm, on a bed of small green Diopside crystals. 5.5 x 4.2 x 1.9cm
A great Italian Alpine classic ! This specimen hosts several, rich reddish orange color, highly lustrous, gemmy, sparkling, dodechedra (with minor trapezohedral modifying faces) of Hessonite measuring up to 7 mm on matrix. There is some minor dark green associated Diopside on the side of the specimen as well. Bellecombe is famous for these Hessonites and they are truly some of the world''s finest for what they are. These are excellent quality crystals from this locality. 7.0 x 4.3 x 4.3cm
These crystals, despite their size, are still some of the darkest, richest green Chrome-bearing Grossular crystals I've seen from any locality. There are literally dozens upon dozens of very small, bright, lustrous, dodecahedral neon green Chrome Grossulars on a greyish-tan colored Diopside matrix. A very attractive piece from this classic, and now defunct world locality. 5.4 x 3.6 x 2.2cm
We have been trying to lay our hands on every affordable specimen of garnet from the Jeffrey Mine we can since the closing of the mine and the drying up of the supply. This specimen has super-gemmy crystals to 0.5 cm, on a bed of small green diopside crystals. 5.1 x 3.6 x 1.9cm
