From one of the premier grossular and prehnite localities, now closed, is this outstanding combo specimen. A huge, euhedral, lustrous, tan prehnite crystal to 6 cm is covered by rare colorless .5 cm grossular crystals. I’m not sure I have ever seen a larger prehnite crystal, and the colorless grossular is pretty rare too. 6.2 x 3.1 x 2.2 cm
This is definitely an old timer. Opaque, but highly lustrous vesuvianite crystals to 4 cm which have an eye pleasing yellow-green color are topped by an opaque, but glassy, dark gray grossular crystal to 1.5 cm. HUGE CRYSTAL FOR THE LOCALITY! 5.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 cm
This color phase of grossular garnet is most unusual. Almost always, the species is included with a chromophore - the Jeffrey is the only mine I am aware of in which this is not the case and even there, it is very rare to find clear grossies - much less of this size! This specimen features several gemmy dodecahedrons up to a full 1 cm across. 3.9 x 3.2 x 2.1 cm
This gorgeous miniature is glassier and gemmier than it appears, in person. It is, gram for gram, one of the absolute finest quality garnets you could ask for from this now-closed locality. It was, as you can see, a cover specimen for the Min Record over a decade ago. Since then, the mine has closed and pieces of such quality have become only harder to obtain. This one is, I feel, priced for its intrinsic value and not for the pedigree or publication per se. Or in any case, not much for those extra bonuses! However, it can only go up with time as an investment. 3.6 x 3.4 x 2.3 cm
A small specimen, yes, but it is a very rare example (no longer available of course) of the little intense green, gemmy grossulars occasionally discovered at the Jeffrey 1.9 x 1.2 x 1.1 cm
A small but very fine thumber of GEMMY grossular garnets, now extremely sought-after since they are no longer coming out. The crystals here measure to 0.9 cm. 1.8 x 1.8 x 1.4 cm
A cluster of BIG, lustrous grossular garnets, with the largest measuring almost 2.5 cm across! They have the light creamy-green color typical for garnets from Lake Jaco. The cluster appears to be a floater - the crystals are complete all the way around the specimen! 4.4 x 3.7 x 3.1 cm
Lustrous garnets to 2.3 cm, of the creamy color characteristic of this locality. This is a floater cluster. 4.3 x 3.3 x 2.6
A huge grossular garnet crystal, very lustrous and complete all around, on a "base" of smaller grossulars. Has the classic light olive color for this locality. 4 x 3.6 x 2.8 cm
SUPER GEMMY and lustrous orange grossular garnets to 1.2 cm cover this fine miniature plate from the famous Jeffrey Mine of Canada. The color and gemmyness of these crystals is Grade A. One slightly bruised crystal and a bit of periphery bruising in no way detract from this beautiful and showy piece. The base has been sawed to enhance display. Ex Ed Ruggiero Collection. Ed, formerly from Dallas, collected from the 1960s until 1987. His collection represents a wonderful time-slice of minerals available during that period. 4.6 x 3.6 x 1.8 cm
Despite some dings, this is a rich specimen of gemmy grossular garnets from the Jeffrey, which are now unavailable! Some of these garnets measure a full centimeter across. 4.4 x 4.2 x 2.1 cm
A very sharp, euhedral, translucent, 2.5 cm (ONE INCH!) green grossular garnet crystal very nicely perched on contrasting feldspar matrix. The crystal was re-attached to the matrix: the repair is barely noticeable, and it stands as a significant piece for huge crystal size for the material! Ex Marty Zinn Collection # 6463. 6.0 x 5.0 x 4.0 cm
Extremely lustrous, dodecahedral, grossular garnet crystals of large size comprise this specimen. The translucent, greenish-yellow crystals reach 3.0 cm across. Very colorful! 4.6 x 3.9 x 3.1 cm
Big, fat, lustrous garnets, to 2.3 cm across, with a fine pale tan-olive color. 3.9 x 3.2 x 2.8 cm
A fine thumber of the very rare bright green Jeffrey Mine grossular garnet. The Jeffrey is closed now, and these were rare even when it was not. One of the crystals here is just under a centimeter across! Back of cluster is a natural contact face. 1.8 x 1.8 x 1.4 cm
