The front is complexly crystallized and an interesting, small diopside crystal is hidden on the back (second photo). Weighs 17.39 carats.

5.0 x 4.4 x 1.8 cm. A beautiful, 1.4 cm, translucent, raspberry-red, compound grossular garnet is very aesthetically set on the matrix plate and is surrounded by smaller garnets and lustrous, translucent, tannish-yellow vesuvianite crystals on this fine piece from the mid-1990s finds at the well-known Lake Jaco deposit of Mexico. Classic combination material from the Robert Whitmore Collection # 3832.

1.4 x 0.8 x 0.7 cm. Tsavorite is the very rare, green, chromium or vanadian variety of grossular garnet, found in few places worldwide, all in Africa. This sharp, lustrous, emerald-green crystal has superb flashes of green fire and sits on a bit of matrix. This is an excellent, if admittedly small thumbnail. However, the color intensity adds somewhat to the visual impact and the unusual sharpness and gemminess of the crystal transcend the size limitation. Weighs 7.75 carats.

Grossular, Calcite from San Diego Co., California, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-29509a.jpg]

These moderately gemmy crystals are quite good for the locality, and the cluster of two of them measures 2 cm across. Perched nicely against contrasting matrix of massive calcite, this would be one of the better such specimens to have come out! Most are broken and jumbly...truly, this was the pick of the lot. The stone below is , for what it is, equally impressive! 5 x 4.1 x 2.5 cm

A gorgeous plate literally sparkling with color. The glassy lustre and rich color here are top-notch! This locality is now closed so buy 'em while you can! 6 x 4 x 1.5 cm

A plate of gemmy, striated crystals to 1.2 cm. The plate has crystals on BOTH sides, as it was apparently a ridge sticking into the pocket (it is solid garnet!). The Jeffrey is now CLOSED and these are becoming more and more prized. Ex Lewadny Collection 3.7 x 3.1 x 1.6 cm

This is a very 3-dimensional and colorful specimen with a wonderful deep neon, sparkly green color characteristic of the high chromium content found here in the garnets. The garnet is amassed in a 3-dimensional ,thick aggregate of small crystals, individually brilliant and beautiful under a scope but really very small to the eye. There are tiny diopside needles with the garnets by way of accent. THIS IS RARE MATERIAL FROM A NOW CLOSED LOCALITY! 7 x 7 x 4 cm

THis is a superb miniature showing off very large and bright grossular garnets from a locality that, sadly, is now closed. These crystals reach 2 cm in size and are intricately faceted with receding crystal planes so that you see a lot of sparkle off of the faces. The isolated nature of the crystals, combined with the diopside crystallized matrix as background, makes this a really special piece as most of these larger garnets are simply on flat and boring matrix in comparison. This piece is really all the more special now that the locality is forever closed, and these classics shoudl only go up in value over time. 5.3 x 4.1 x 2.8 cm

This specimen is an unusual knob of aggregated grossular garnet crystals, sort of in the form and size of a large egg, perched on a bit of matrix. It is possible, actually, that this is demantoid in fact. 7.5 x 5.4 x 3.8 cm

A gorgeous specimen with among the deepest green color I have ever seen in tsavorite. The piece features a crystal measuring almost 1 cm, perched atop contrasting graphite matrix. There is also rich tsavorite at the bottom of the piece, for added color bonus. The major crystal is slightly contacted on the back side and missing only one minor face , also on the back. It really displays well and is a piece with more visual impact than its size might indicate. the association on matrix is VERY rare! 2.2 x 2.1 x 1.4 cm

This specimen LOOKS somewhat like Vesper Peak garnets, but i trusted to the labels that it is from some other (obscure!) claim in the same general area. It is a sparkling, gorgeous specimen in any case! It has old labels form both Bart Cannon and Scott Williams (collection, not dealer stock). Turns out that, indeed, there are several Skarn Pods running through Vesper Peak for several miles. One of these skarn pods NEARBY Vesper Peak is called Teenage Crush, hence the similar appearance to Vespar Peak garnet. 4.6 x 3.3 x 1 cm

This tsavorite crystal is unusually wellformed and complete for the species - they tend to be partial crystals, in this size range, more often that not. It sits on graphite matrix. The color is unusual in that it is more dark and olive-colored compared to the traditional bright green hues, but the form makes up for this and it is still, i think , a very interesting locality garnet specimen 2 x 1.9 x 1.5 cm

You may have seen some of these grossular leaking out of Mexico, but is is VERY unusual to find them this fine and large, and well-exposed on matrix! These crystals measure over 2 cm across, and the 3 largest are complete and undamaged all around. 6.5 x 3.9 x 3.5 cm
