GRAPH-07 - Graphite - $ 450 SOLD Mont St.-Sauveur, Quebec, Canada small cabinet, 8.1 x 5.0 x 2.5 cm
This is a tremendously rich specimen infused with graphite as freestanding crystals and as veins showing in the calcite. It is REALLY REALLY rich with graphite - more than any other piece here. It has sharp METALLIC, brilliantly lustrous xls to a whopping 1.2 cm embedded in matrix and to 1 cm freestanding. So rich and bright atop, it is hard to photograph accurately...better in person. One of the richest specimens in the find! Graph07 is on a different matrix (amphibole/titanite/wollastonite we think) these came from another place slightly down the road from the locality that the others were found, but other crystals were rougher.
GRAPH-08 - Graphite - $ 850 SOLD Mont St.-Sauveur, Quebec, Canada small cabinet, 8.4 x 6.2 x 2.8 cm
This is an outstanding specimen with huge, freestanding crystals to 1.2 cm, including one particularly robust and sharp crystal of 12mm, that is just exquisite. For graphite, also, its thick and robust. The contrast on white calcite is striking. I regard this as the best specimen of the find, that was to be sold. Graph08 is etched out of blue calcite, it was from a few chunks of blue calcite with graphite crystals running through it
J11-79 - Tsavorite Garnet on graphite - $ 1200 SOLD Merelani Hills, Lelatema Mts, Arusha Region, Tanzania thumbnail, 1.8 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm
Intense, deep, rich color marks this garnet as a top grade tsavorite, and not just a "minty green" garnet from this important locality for tanzanite that also has recently spit out incredible garnets and diopsides as well. The crystal is complete, embedded in its back in graphite matrix, and has saturated color throughout. It is hyperbole perhaps, but the lustre on this crystal is nothing short of "freaky" and I do not use the word lightly. Killer thumbnail! Joe Budd photos
J11T-184 - Diopside on Graphite - $ 2500 Merelani Mines, Arusha, Tanzania small cabinet, 5.9 x 5.3 x 3.1 cm
Sharp, very gemmy, pear-green crystals of diopside to nearly 2 cm spray out from a graphite matrix. The lustre and glassiness of the crystals is remarkable, as is their perch on contrasting (and seldom preserved) matrix.
MD-136111 - Apophyllite-(KF), Graphite - - Archived French Creek Mines, St. Peters, Warwick Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, USA cabinet, 9.9 x 9.7 x 8.5 cm.
9.9 x 9.7 x 8.5 cm. A big, rich example of a now quite-rare old-timer from this classic American iron mine! This 3-dimensional "sheety" specimen is COVERED with sparkly crystals of apophyllite. It is an interesting association piece, too: here and there are small blebs of graphite. This piece was sitting in a collection for many decades.
MD-140522 - Quartz, Graphite - - Archived Cong Li (?), Hunan Province, China small cabinet, 8.4 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm.
8.4 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm. An undamaged, uncontacted floater crystal of super-clear quartz, doubly-terminated, with two distinctive things going for it: one, these interesting inclusions of graphite (carbon), and two, at least one visibly moving bubble inside a water pocket (enhydro) one of the more dramatic such examples we have seen.
MD-144878 - Quartz, Graphite - - Archived Cong Li (?), Hunan Province, China small cabinet, 8.1 x 7.3 x 2.3 cm.
8.1 x 7.3 x 2.3 cm. Yes, this is just a quartz crystal cluster, but WHAT A BEAUTY! The pristine, very lightly frosted, water-clear quartz crystals form a nearly perfect cross. The DT quartz looks like it has been inlaid into the main quartz crystal, which is beautifully terminated. The graphite inclusions are RARE and are a real bonus! This stunning piece is from a small and recent find at Cong Li, China.
