This oldtime gold is completely crystallized and from the latter half of the 19th century when gold and silver mining was at its apex in this historically important district. It has a matte luster and exquisite crystallization characteristic of the locality, and has not been burned clean to enhance the lustre - it retains its original patina. It is quite possible that this lighter color is the result of a very minor silver content in the specimen.

This lovely, elongated, gold nugget is from the area that produced Australia’s first gold rush, in the 1850’s. It weighs 1.8 ounces. You get a lot of visual pizzazz for the buck with this elongated piece, because it has high surface area so it LOOKS bigger....

This crystal is a slightly rounded OCTOHEDRON, again of unusually good quality for the Placer deposits here.

This matrix shows a 1.25-cm gold tentacle popping up from the quartz. It is an older specimen, ex harvard Museum, and not from the new finds of the last few years (which come from an entirely different locallity, a river alluvial).

An incredible, significant, CABINET sized specimen that speaks to both the history and the beauty of golds from this district. For those who know what they are looking at, enough said!  A nice provenance accompanies this piece. Joe Budd photos

Brilliant, metallic, golden luster, highlights this specimen with several octahedral crystals, to 1 cm across. These are flattenned, elongated, and extremely sharp and dramatic. The thumbnail specimen as a whole is quite hefty, not wimpy at all as it looks in a flat picture, and these are crystals that REALLY stand out in person even more. The lustre is the top one percentile, truly spectacular and visually impressive beyond its size. The color, luster and form, all make this a world class thumbnail!

DTN34 - Gold - ¥ 206186

Gold from Kilometer 88 District, West of Santa Elena, Venezuela [db_pics/pics/dtn34a.jpg]

This wonderful, elongated gold specimen is apparently spinel twinned with hopper growth. It exhibits classic Venezuelan habits. This exquisite crystal is a HUGE gold crystal, to be so sharp. Most of this size are severely deformed, even from this prolific locality. This one is elegant and sharp as heck. A killer specimen for people who like crystals for their quality as opposed to weight. It displays magnificently, with a nice golden-toned patina, and frankly i like it either side up...personal choice, there.

This piece features a thick, sturdy, brilliantly-colored group of gold crystals perched dramatically on a knoll of quartz like an upswept feather about to move in the breeze...it is THAT aesthetic! This specimen really stands out from the crowd of Eagle's Nest material because of the thickness and solidity of the arborescent gold crystal group, which is composed of an unusually thick, interlocking weave of crystals. It is complete and showy on both sides. Gold of serverl crystal forms is present, including an unusual thick weave of crysatls about th emiddle and flattened and twinned octohedra at the sides and top. GOOD FROM EITHER SIDE and BETTER IN PERSON by far!

Gold (3 cm twinned crystal!) from Eagle's Nest Mine, Placer County, California, USA [db_pics/pics/g34b.jpg]

WOW! Eagle's Nest does not produce many crystals of this size, at all. This specimen features a SHARP 3 cm twinned gold crystal sticking straight out into the air, and balanced aesthetically by opposing crystals reaching towards it from the other side of the specimen. I've never seen teh like, for this habit, from the locality. This is a THICK, STURDY specimen, and is not thin and flimsy at all. It is incredibly dramatic because of the ultra-dominating crysatls atop, and stands nicely for display atop a custom-made lucite pedestal.

Crystallized Gold Nugget from Tibboburra, North West Outback, New South Wales, Australia [db_pics/pics/g35d.jpg]

weight: 113 grams This is an attractive and hefty nugget with lots of eye appeal! It is from Tibboburra, a locality quite distinct from teh common goldfields in Victoria where most Aussie nuggets come from; and, I am told, this is a verylarge nugget for the Tibboburra locality. It can be distinguished from Victoria material by a slightly brassier color combined with generally better, more metallic lustre (as this piece exemplifies). Note that it DOES have crude crystal forms, plus other signs of crystallization throughout (though the faces are rounded, tis true), which is rare on nuggets in general. Anyways, all together it is a decidedly different kind of nugget from teh average rounded and boring piece, with unique and interesting appearance. It has been said to resemble the "Maltese Cross" in person. Floater, complete all around!
