This wonderful, elongated gold specimen is apparently spinel twinned with hopper growth. It exhibits classic Venezuelan habits. This exquisite crystal is a HUGE gold crystal, to be so sharp. Most of this size are severely deformed, even from this prolific locality. This one is elegant and sharp as heck. A killer specimen for people who like crystals for their quality as opposed to weight. It displays magnificently, with a nice golden-toned patina. 2.5 x 0.5 x 0.2 cm
A very hefty 4.9-gram thumbnail example of the brassy gold that made this district so famous in teh 1800s, and caused the growth of gold mining boomtowns. Now, examples are extremely hard to find! This one is thick and hefty, a cluster of thickly-grown leaves and crystals. Purchased from Colorado dealer EM Gunnell in 1950. 2.1 x 1.7 x 0.4 cm
This is a significant locality thumbnail of so-called "sponge gold," from this famous district. The crystallized appearance from casts of etched-away quartz crystals is typical of Leadville. 2 x 1.5 x 0.5 cm
A hefty 63.8-gram gold nugget, shaped like a pancake. Very beautiful and classic locality nugget. 4.5 x 3 x 0.6 cm
A SUBSTANTIAL, not wimpy but really sturdy, specimen of gold from the Eagle''s Nest Mine in California. There is just a bit of matrix - this is just about solid gold, weighing 7 grams. 3.1 x 2.5 x 0.7cm
This gold crystal is characterized by rounded faces and hopper growth of a large octohedral crystal, with great luster. 1.5 x 1 x 0.5 cm
1.3 x 0.9 x 0.3 cm. A sculptural, flattened to slightly bulbous gold crystal with a rich, golden-yellow patina and a nifty little hole. From an uncommon Venezuelan locality and the Steve Smale Collection. Every one of the mostly flattened pieces that we obtained in a trade with Steve were unique and different.
1.3 x 1 x 0.5 cm. This gold crystal is characterized by hopper growth of a large octohedral crystal, elongated on one axis. It is really very impressive in person. It is exquisitely formed, once you start looking at it. Ex. Dr. Steve Smale Collection.
1.4 x 0.9 x 0.2 cm. This flattened crystal shows strong hoppered growth on what should be the octahedral face if it had not been compressed or constrained during growth to expand more in one direction than others. The luster and color are both superior. Ex. Dr. Steve Smale Collection.
A sharp pagoda-like cluster culminating in a very 3-dimensional, unusually sharp, perfect octohedral gold crystal (4mm on edge)! This specimen was formerly in the isometric thumbnails competition case of my mentor, Carlton Davis of Columbus , Ohio. 1 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm
Flecks of bright gold in a goethite matrix, an old specimen from La Paz County in Arizona. 5.9 x 3.9 x 2.5cm
An AESTHETIC and OUTSTANDING leaf gold specimen on milky quartz from the famous Red Lake Mine of Ontario. The lustrous, largest gold leaf is incredibly well-placed on the upper part of the "leg" of the boot-shaped milky quartz. The piece sits up very well, without any props. 5.0 x 4.2 x 3.5 cm
An AESTHETIC and SUPERB thumbnail of lustrous, arborescent gold crystals from the Mother Lode of Mariposa County, California. Ex Marilyn Dodge Collection. Not sure what mine it is from, sorry. 1.5 x 0.7 x 0.1 cm
A showy and excellent specimen of lustrous, micro crystals of gold on snow-white albite and quartz matrix from the Eldorado Mine of the famous Gympie Region of Queensland, Australia. 2.3 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm
An excellent and showy combination piece from the famous Dome Rock Copper Mine of South Australia, Australia. Gold flecks are found on one face of the schist matrix, while another face is richly and colorfully covered green conichalcite. 7.8 x 6.0 x 5.5 cm
