8.5 x 7.2 x 4.2 cm. A rich and sculptural specimen composed solidly of radiating clusters of brown to black goethite blades from Colorado. Many of the brown blades on one side are very gemmy and are nicely complimented with sparkly, specular hematite. There are even a couple of tiny, glassy smoky quartz crystals scattered about. Ex. Adam Sotomayor, who collected it.

Hematite, Siderite, Goethite from R. A. Kosnar claim, Yucca Hill, Steven's Ranch, Lake George, Park Co., Colorado, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-249077a.jpg]

3.6 x 3.1 x 2.3 cm. Park and Teller Counties in Colorado are best known for producing some of the most magnificent Amazonite specimens in the world. There aren't many species associated with the Amazonite, mostly Quartz, Albite, Fluorite and sometimes Hematite. The majority of the Hematite specimens from this area are often found as pseudomorphs after Siderite. This particular specimen features a very attractive, excellent, sharp, aesthetic rhombic crystal of Siderite which has been replace by Hematite and is associated with golden-brown Goethite and minor contrasting pink Microcline. The specimen was collected by Richard Kosnar on May 28 1982 while on a collecting trip with his good friend Erberto Tealdi (former editor of Rivista Mineralogica Italiana). According to Rich Kosnar's label that accompanies the piece, it is very rare to find both Goethite and Hematite together, and this particular association is unique to the Lake George area of Colorado. A very attractive, and hard to find Hematite pseudomorph association specimen. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

Limonite, Pyrite from Elizabeth R. Mine, Chief Mountain, Pala District, San Diego Co., California, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-249624a.jpg]

4.0 x 3.1 x 2.3 cm. A superb, sharp miniature with exceptional crystals of pyrite (rare for the county) which were replaced by the mineral limonite in perfect symmetry-preservation. These are very uncommon, and highly desired among county collectors. I am told that this is one of the very finest pieces from a small pocket found in the 1980s by mine owner Roland Reed. Ex. William Larson Collection.

16.5 x 7.8 x 3.5 cm. A striking, large cabinet plate from Colorado of clusters of lustrous, bladed, black goethite. The top of the piece is richly covered with rare so-called onegite crystals - which was an early name for hair-like inclusions of goethite in amethyst. Many of the glassy amethyst crystals are doubly terminated and many are so richly included with goethite needles that they look like smoky quartz crystals. Essentially pristine, this rare, large combination piece is from the Dreamtime Claim. Ex. Adam Sotomayor, who collected it.

9.0 x 3.3 x 3.2 cm. From an incredible recent find: This amazingly iridescent and colorful goethite, which formed stalactitically, has botryoidal form on the surface which reflects its pink, red, gold, orange and other colors in every direction. Even the black goethite botryoids are silvery bright. An uncommonly colorful and beautiful form of a common mineral.

2.7 x 2.2 x 1.5 cm. This reddish-brown, equant, crystal of goethite (once called limonite) after pyrite (?), is one of the best crystallized members of its species I have ever seen. It is a floater, with no visible point of attachment. Extremely sharp, like a crystal model.

7.5 x 7.3 x 6.0 cm. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen has no Amazonite, but it is a superb piece featuring sharp, lustrous, golden-black "blades" of Goethite forming a beautiful crystallized "spray" on matrix. This specimen was collected nearly 30 years ago (August of 1980), when Richard Kosnar found some of the finest color Amazonite from Colorado extant. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

10.3 x 6.7 x 4.5 cm. A classic and very fine cabinet goethite specimen from Colorado. Connected, radiating clusters of lustrous, black to earthy-brown goethite blades form this fine piece, which are attached at one end to massive smoky quartz. Close examination of the goethite blades reveals the extremely high lustre, and brown gemminess to some of the blades. This excellent specimen is from a recent find at the Wormhole Trend of the Dreamtime Mine in Teller County. The sculptural specimen was expertly collected, with very minimal damage to the front of the piece. Ex. Adam Sotomayor, who collected it.

A very unusual and interesting looking specimen of goethite encrusting green fluorite from the Okarusu Mine, Namibia. The large encrusted fluorite crystal looks like a castle tower with battlements. I have never seen a Okarusu fluorite like this amongst thousands of Okarusu specimens over more than a decade! 5.0 x 4.5 x 3.9 cm

6.9 x 4.8 x 4.3 cm. A very interesting and aesthetic combination piece from recent finds in Argentina. Complete-all-around and pristine, this specimen is highlighted by the sharp, lustrous, translucent, 3.1 cm smoky quartz crystal. As an accent to the smoky quartz crystal, tiny limonite pseudomorphs after siderite crystals are embedded in several faces. Tiny, snow-white albite crystals are scattered about epitaxially on the sharp, cream-colored microcline crystals. A very fine and highly representative combination piece from the find.
