CREEDMEX-28 - Creedite with Gearksutite - $ 9000 Abasolo Mine, Navidad, Durango, Mexico large cabinet, 25.5 x 15.4 x 12.5 cm
This specimen must have a hundred crystals exceeding 1 cm, many 1.5 cm. It has great color, lustre, and intensity normally not seen in large creedites from this locale (in the past, bigger ones tended to pale out in color) . It is nearly complete on both sides and is complete around the top and sides. Although not quite pristine, it is nevertheless close enough for me, given the size and importance of the specimen, and the few spots of damage (mostly to the back side which is ALSO crystallized) do not remotely detract. Associations with fluorite and a strange sparkly, brecciated deposit on the lower portion give some needed contrast and helps show the dimensionality. IT TURNS OUT THIS SPARKLING WHITE MATERIAL IS ACTUALLY THE VERY RARELY CRYSTALLIZED SPECIES, Gearksutite. This HUGE specimen has to be one of the world's great examples of the species. At 10 pounds, and nearly a foot across, it is a riveting specimen with hundreds of intense orange crystals forming several large "humps" on matrix. MUCH MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!
MD-261453 - Creedite, Gearksutite - - Archived Navidad Mine (Mina Navidad; Abasolo Mine; Rodeo Mine), Abasolo, Rodeo, Mun. de Rodeo, Durango, Mexico small cabinet, 7.8 x 7.0 x 6.0 cm.
7.8 x 7.0 x 6.0 cm. A striking and very rare orange creedite with gearksutite specimen. Gearksutite is a rare complex aluminum salt, being a late stage, secondary fluoride. The bottom of this creedite pincushion is very richly covered with sharp, dagger-like, frosted, white gearksutite crystals to about 9 mm (second photo). Crystallized gearksutite in itself, is very rare, as it is usually massive or nodular. This specimen is from a brand new lot brought out by Mike New in August of this year (2009), just before the Denver Show. Mike just had this material analyzed and confirmed as gearksutite. Only a couple of dozen of the more than 1000 specimens we obtained have gearksutite on them. Getting back to the creedite, this ball of creedite is covered with gemmy, burnt-orange crystals to 1.7 cm, which is large for the locale. Note that this zone is now inaccessible to a cave-in, and more mining at this new depth is not expected (anytime soon).
