5.2 x 4.2 x 2.8 cm. Galena can be really mundane, or it can be quite spectacular, is on this extremely aesthetic Eastern European specimen. The architectural stacking of these crystals, and the way they are set so beautifully amongst the translucent quartz crystals, makes this specimen really special.
6.4 x 5.6 x 3.8 cm. Another Eastern European galena of a completely different style, and one of several fine Bulgarian specimens in this set of auctions. These are large, shiny silver crystals to 3.5 cm, with accenting pyrite and quartz. The faces are sharp and shiny-metallic.
4.0 x 4.0 x 2.2 cm. A CLASSIC, OLD-TIME and showy specimen of dark gray galena pseudomorphs after pyromorphite crystals on quartz from a famous German locality - Bernkastel. All of the pseudos are pristine, with only the contacting in the middle, which to me, is a nice accent. Ex Lord Calvert Collection.
5.3 x 4.6 x 2.3 cm. Super sharp, medium to high lustre, cuboctohedral galena crystals aesthetically cover matrix on this CLASSIC, OLD-TIMER from Poland. The dominating crystal at the top is 1.1 cm. Accompanied by an OLD label in German, when Silesia was part of Germany. Ex. George Elling Collection.

6.8 x 5.5 x 4.7 cm. A VERY SHOWY and CLASSIC combination piece from the ancient and famous Stari Trg Mine at Trepca, Serbia. This pristine specimen consists of two, intersecting, rosette-like discs. The fronts are covered with the famous bright, brassy pyrite pseudomorphs after pyrrhotite crystals and are beautifully accented by: WHITE botryoidal rhodochrosite in the middle of the front rosette; lustrous and colorless nail-head calcite crystals; lustrous, gray galena cubes on both rosettes; and lustrous, black sphalerite crystals on the back rosette. The backs of both discs are covered with white, drusy quartz. This is really a neat sulfide specimen with nice association minerals from a classic locality. Ex. George Elling Collection.
6.6 x 5.5 x 4.4 cm. An EXCEPTIONAL and AESTHETIC, old-time Tri-State galena specimen. These super sharp, bright gray galena octahedrons look like they have been cut in a lathe and then individually set on matrix, like cut jewels. Tiny, black sphalerite crystals scattered on matrix are a nice accent. The large octahedron on top is 1.3 cm. Ex. George Feist Collection #2556.
7.8 x 5.5 x 5.2 cm. Dal’negorsk has definitely become one of the premier contemporary sulfide produces localities around. The mine is still active and manages to produce amazing quality sulfides that do not receive the appreciation they deserve. The piece is comprised of flatted, white "discs" of Calcite stacked upon one another to form long, narrow crystal aggregates. The Calcites are associated with highly lustrous, silver colored cuboctahedra of Galena and jet black, sparkling twinned Sphalerite crystal matrix. Ex. Kosnar Collection.
6.8 x 5.6 x 4.4 cm. From the extremely exciting NEW FIND at this CLASSIC locality - a superb combo specimen. On a bed of lustrous crystals of galena, sphalerite and a few chalcopyrites is a complex compound crystal of fluorite with a beautiful min-green hue. Modified, beveled cubes seem to be growing out of a central, more nebulous fluorite "base". The cubes have clear "windows" into the transparent interior of the fluorite.
5.5 x 4.2 x 3.5 cm. Unusually, sharp, gemmy and lustrous, deep cherry-red spessartine garnet crystals to 1.5 cm are richly and aesthetically scattered on lustrous, crystallized to massive galena matrix on this CLASSIC and VERY SHOWY specimen from Broken Hill, Australia. Ex. George Elling Collection.
14.0 x 11.0 x 10.3 cm. A DRAMATIC CABINET specimen from the much less well-known West Fork Mine of Missouri"s famous Viburnum Trend. A STUNNING, 3.9 cm, lustrous, metallic-gray galena cube aesthetically crowns the specimen and smaller galena cubes beneath it in a highly brecciated, siliceous limestone matrix. The matrix is dusted with tiny, flashy chalcopyrite crystals, which adds a very nice touch. Another large, 3.5 cm galena cube is hidden in the bottom of the piece and shows through on the bottom-right of the front. Ex. George Feist Collection.
7.1 x 6.5 x 2.2 cm. A combination plate from Guanajuato, Mexico of white, plumose sprays of calcite attractively scatttered with sparkly pyrite-dusted, medium-lustre, prismatic, cogwheel-looking, gray galena crystals on a matrix of tiny gray needle quartz crystals. A fine sulfide combo piece, for which the Guanajuato mines are famous for.
8.7 x 8.4 x 6.1 cm. A large, dramatic specimen of beautifully crystallized galena from the tri-state mining district. You can see wonderful examples of hoppering on the crystal faces. The individual crystals measure up to 3.5 cm. The whole display face has a beautiful architectural form. Ex. Feist Collection.
6.4 x 4.7 x 4.4 cm. What a wonderfully aesthetic specimen from Eastern Europe! The Borieva Mine has a way of turning out gorgeous specimens of rather common minerals. Here, you have a fine balance of silky quartz crystals sticking up from amongst silky, sharp, finely-formed galena crystals with a "brushed metal" look.
5.7 x 4.5 x 4.2 cm. An old-time and showy specimen of translucent, purple, lightly frosted fluorite cubes on matrix covered with splendent, black galena crystals from the less well-known Rodderup Fell Mine at Alston Moor, England. The mine closed in 1948 and is one of the few mines in the area, that produced fine fluorite specimens. Moderate purple and yellow fluorescence. Ex. George Elling Collection.
2.6 x 2.5 x 1.7 cm. A CLASSIC, OLD-TIME and HIGHLY DESIRABLE German specimen of sharp, gunmetal-gray galena after pyromorphite barrels nicely set on matrix from the famed Kautenbach Mine. The large crystal is 9 mm. Certainly one of the most sought-after German mineral species. Ex. Carl Davis Collection.
