This crystal is a sharp, twinned galena from the classic Buick Mine of the Vibernum Trend mining district. Sharp and complete on both sides, with minor pyrite association

A dramatic display specimen from old finds atr Naica, featuring a 4-cm-across, 3-cm-deep fluorite perched atop a pedestal of galena. The crystal is just sitting up there, freely exposed and viewable all around. it is very gemmy, and has a subtle pastel color to it casued by a clear zone around a green core in the center. This crystal, in atypical Naica fashion, is sharply cubic rather than modified by the octohedral form as is common here. And, some edges have a natural rounded look , very weird and rare, to them. One of the special fluorites , and a personal favorite for aesthetics, among many in this fine old Mexican mineral collection. Joe Budd photos.

This specimen has the deepest green color saturation I have seen in a Naica fluorite, combined with sparkling luster! The crystal is a complex octohedron with many-stepped faces reflecting light, perched up on galena. It is 4 cm across. One of the special fluorites among many in this fine old Mexican mineral collection. Joe Budd photos.

Although common enough, truly fine galenas that have that extra form, luster, or style from this classic mining district are hard to get ahold of. This is a really showy, well-balanced specimen with sharp modified crystals to 4 cm on edge. They are cubes, with slight octohedral modifications on the tips. The piece, despite its size and weight, is nearly pristine with only a few trivial little dings or chips. It is 3-dimensional, and although heavy it is not "too heavy" for a specimen to go amongst other pieces. ex Ed David collection. Joe Budd photos.
A beautifully balanced combo specimen from Peru, combining sharp, brassy chalcopyrite with stacked cubes of silvery galena and dark, lustrous sphalerite. You can see a galena cube buried right in the middle of the chalco! Stark contrast of form and color makes this a chice miniature standing out amidst the crowd from these mines.
This specimen was very hard to photograph. In person, the dolomite crystals covering the matrix are much lighter in color, providing a striking contrast to the galenas. What makes this specimen so nice is the isolation of these sharp galenas (to 1.5 cm) on the matrix and their pretty balance from one side to the other.

Elba is famous for fine Tourmalines, but over the years it has also produced large, very impressive Pyrites associated with Galena. They are highly desired, especially pieces with the combination to sparkling blades of hematite such as this one (found in the 1970s, if I recall). There are three distinct pyritohedrons on Galena matrix. The largest is about 6 cm, and the others between 5-6 cm. Incredible size and quality! The specimen is contacted in the back, but the presentation side is superb. The great form and luster of the Pyrites is dazzling and contrasts with hematite. The pics are good, but Pyrites are hard to shoot. It is even better in person. An amazing specimen for what it is and I usually see these at much higher prices

Bizarre, elongated, pointy, hoppered galena crystals to 2 cm are perched here in a cluster on contrasting bronze/iridescent chalcopyrite, making for a stunning contrast! It is very 3-dimensional in person and looks like a robot, to me. The galena is not just metallic. It has a thin surface alteration of iridescence and flashes brightly, more than you would expect. Something about it is just DIFFERENT, is all I can say, and it really shows off in a case
A rare locality piece featuring highly modified galena crystals to 9 mm in size on sparkling quartz druse.
This piece features 2 simply exquisite cuboctahedral galena crystals, highly modified, to 2.25 cm in size. It has minor sphalerite in association. It is a rare locality piece made all the better by the fact that the galenas are well-situated on a sparkling, snow-white quartz druse. The trim job is pretty darned good too - overall, making this one of the better galena miniatures I have had from any locality, old classic or not.

Exemplary cluster of sharp, well-defined Pyrrhotite crystals with excellent brassy color, great metallic luster. The superb single is 1.5 cm long, doubly-terminated (one complete, one half due to intergrowth), while the complex 'stacked' crystal is about 2.5 cm long. Old classic for this locale, seldom so nicely formed, though. Regardless of size, this is unquestionably one of the most aesthetic Pyrrhotites I have ever come across.

Nice twinned Cerussite with good luster and gemminess. What really make this specimen are the 2-3 mm Mimetites that are as gemmy, yellow and well-formed as you could possibly hope to find, on the matrix under it! Overall, a terrific combination piece.
