This uncommon and highly-desirable Tri-State galena features superb IRIDESCENCE, showing off a gorgeous play of colors! The crystal itself is finely-formed, with just a bit of accenting matrix. WOW! 4.1 x 3.2 x 2.2 cm
This is a really DRAMATIC Tri-State galena, in that the two beautifully-formed galena tetradecagons sit side-by-side ISOLATED in the middle of the matrix. Much more striking than the usual "busy" specimen, I think Larger crystal measures 2.3 cm . . From the old tristate distrcit circa 1930s-1950s 7.9 x 6.7 x 4.1 cm
A SUPERB and AESTHETIC specimen lustrous, gun metal-gray galena octohedrons accented by calcite rhombs from the famous Milliken Mine, Viburnum Trend, Missouri. This is older, very choice material from the mine, as galena octohedrons were never common. 9.8 x 5.5 x 5.2 cm
These crystals reach up to 1.8 cm! They feature sharp crystals showin gthe cubic form modified by octohedral faces. Associated microminerals include Cerussite, Anglesite, Mimetite, and Quartz. Despite all its production of lead, galena was indeed rare throughout Tsumeb's history! Truly an amazing and important Miniature for any collection of Tsumeb material. Purchased from the Zweibels in 1978 5.8 x 4 x 3.2 cm
Classic, sharp twinned crystal of galena with minor pyrite from the old lead mining district of Tipperary County, Ireland. The galena has as great bright metallic luster with an interesting twin plane along the terminations. Some of the pyrite is also crystalline, with a shiny bright luster. These mines go back hundreds of years and crystals like this are very difficult to obtain. A superb miniature, for display purposes, as well! Currently, the actual minesite is operating as a business so trespassing is strong unadvised especially considering all the specimens are long gone 4.3 x 3.8 x 2.8 cm
Another great classic galena from the historic lead mines in Ireland. This cluster of three modified octahedron crystals is sharply formed, with a brilliant metallic luster. A great piece for the collector who wants a very nice example of this old world galena and at a great price. Minor edge wear present but in general, the crystals are in very good condition. The modified octohedron is actually not so common from here as the twinned habit above. 5.4 x 3.2 x 2.5 cm (CHECK - may not be from Ireland - JPR 04/11/2006)
This specimen is perhaps hundreds of years old - I have seen them like this only in old books like Sowerby - never on a piece available for sale! It features sharp galena cubes to 1cm on a matrix of massive galena. The galena crystals are all uniquely hoppered with a metallic luster! Very unusual piece from a classic German galena location. Not just a great location piece but a very neat galena. New York State Museum label included with piece. 7.0 x 4.5 x 3.4 cm
A fine Eastern European combo specimen, featuring lustrous, super-sharp silvery crystals of galena to 1.5 cm accented by GEMMY quartz crystals. Very attractive! 7.7 x 5.1 x 4.1 cm
Classic, very glassy, pastel-green, stepped, modified cubic fluorite crystals with galena from Naica, Mexico. The fluorite crystals also have purple areas. All of the large cubes are pristine. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection. 7.2 x 5.0 x 4.3 cm
This old tri-state galena is truly amazing to look at, in that its surface is completely covered with small, flat-topped epitaxial galenas from a second generation of growth! The main crystal is complete, with the back side being an L-shape where it was wrapped around the euhedral matrix rock. The display surface of the galena also has tiny, golden chalcopyrites, which add to the attractiveness. 6.9 x 5.1 x 4.6 cm
With mirror-metallic luster, a superb tabular spinel-twinned galena sits up on its side atop a cluster of slender, gemmy quartz crystals. Other equally shiny galenas are below the one that "crowns" the specimen. A fine Eastern European galena! 7.4 x 6.4 x 4.6 cm
A killer Eastern Euro galena specimen - this is a huge compound crystals, with super-sharp, angular faces, excellent shiny-metallic luster, and a bit of chalcopyrite present for a pretty color contrast. A wonderfully architectural galena, REALLY neat! 7.4 x 6.1 x 3.6 cm
Another superb Eastern European galena, this one with gorgeous HOPPERED crystals, to 1.8 cm! A totally different style from the other Bulgarian galena in this auction, so take your choice - or get both! 8.6 x 5.1 x 4.8 cm
A KILLER Missouri galena - with big (to 3 cm) crystals of mirror luster, sharp as machine parts! In person, the shine of these crystals is even more impressive than the pics show. The crystals have interesting natural corner bevels. This is classic stuff! i have seen thousands of thee and yet this one stands out. 9.1 x 6.8 x 5.2 cm
One of the most unique pyrrhotite specimens I have seen come out of Dalnegorsk. The platy, lustrous crystals have grown in parallel, wrapping themselves around a curving core of silvery galena! BETTER IN PERSON! 6.5 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm
