Sure, galenas are common, but not like this. This is a fabulously-formed 4.5-cm crystal tucked in a bend in the matrix, exposed all the way around, with fine sharp faces and bright metallic luster. A really superb Dalnegorsk piece! 8 x 6 x 5.5 cm

5.9 x 4.9 x 2.5 cm. Steel-gray galena cubes to 1.1 cm with splendent lustre and nifty modified corners are aesthetically set on matrix of quartz and smaller quartz crystals on this fine specimen from the Camp Bird Mine of Ouray, Colorado. This 1960s-70s era piece from the Mullane Collection comes with a handwritten label identifying the ore body and level of this well-known mine. The information is written on the back of a faded savings deposit ticket from The Citizens State Bank of Ouray. Dennis Mullane must have bought this directly from a miner in Ouray.

8.2 x 6.5 x 6.0 cm. A 3.4 cm, highly lustrous, twinned, stepped-growth face, jet-black sphalerite crystal crowns this fine sphalerite and galena specimen from recent finds at the Santa Eulalia District of Mexico. Part of the "melted look" galena crystal looks like a "feather" on top of the large sphalerite crystal. The rest of the unusual galena crystal is revealed on the back side of the piece. Bands of tiny calcite crystals are a nice accent on this fine combination specimen.

A pink fluorite crystal strangely distorted by having grown around crystallized galena. In two places where it has grown around the side of the galena, you can see it trying to form octahedrons, with a few sharp faces fully formed! 5.0 x 4.2 x 2.8 cm

10.0 x 7.6 x 5.3 cm. A fine, old-time, cabinet-sized sphalerite specimen from one of the famous mines at Creede, Colorado. Gemmy and lustrous, twinned, golden-amber sphalerite crystals to 1.8 cm richly and attractively cover both sides of the sulfide matrix. The more isolated and smaller crystals on the backside are particularly gemmy. A single, 1.2 cm, lustrous, steel-gray, fortification galena cube on the front side is a very nice accent. This is classic for the locality. A very interesting feature is the cavity on the side that holds a 1.2 cm, totally loose sphalerite crystal. Excellent, old material from this historic district from the John Ydren Collection.

This excellent, complete-all-around crystal is richly and beautifully covered on the back and one edge with lustrous dolomite rhombs, sparkly, brassy marcasite crystals and a couple of well-placed, calcite scalenohedrons.
