Freieslebenite is a very VERY rare silver, lead, antimony sulfide species found in good quality only at a few locales. The crystals here reach 4mm and there are a hundred of them! This happens to be from the type locale, where it was noted circa 1773. I have never had a good German Freieslebenite, as Spanish material which came out in the late 1800s and early 1900s is more commonly seen. And, this is a large specimen, too - very richly covered! ex Robert Whitmore collection, obtained from Phil Scalisi in the past when he was selling the Grace Dearborn Collection (an heiress who assembled an excellent collection specializing in the classics in the early 1900s).

5.6 x 4.4 x 1.9 cm. This beautiful little specimen features extremely sharp twinned Freieslebenite crystals to 4mm (as a cluster), perched on crystallized quartz matrix. It was once in the Museum of Bonn in Germany, and their label notes that they obtained it from the famous German dealers August Krantz (1809-1872) and his son, who lived in Bonn from 1850 on.

2.6 x 2.2 x 0.9 cm. Freieslebenite is an extremely rare silver-bearing species, found in good crystals in only a few localities. This place, in Spain, is perhaps the most classic for specimens for the collector, though pieces are old and rarely available today. This is a fine reference example, with sharp crystals to 2 mm or so in size. Ex. Charlie Key.

This old-timer comes with a label from W.F. Ferrier of Canada, dated to the last part of the 19th. century. Frieslebenite, a rare sulfo-salt of silver, lead, and antimony, can be found on this matrix specimen associated with drusy quartz, in euhedral crystals as large as .5 cm across. It is a gray-black color with evident luster. This is a large, rich, and very rare example of the species from its most famous historic locale! 9.7 x 5.5 x 3 cm
