ex. Dr. Edward David
An exceptionally dramatic piece with a stark 4 cm franklinite just sitting nicely in matrix of zincite, willemite, and calcite. The crystal is remarkably free of cracking, which happens often in larger crystals; and also free of shoe polish and glue fill in said cracks - a more frequent occurence than we specimen collectors like to admit. But, in the old days, it was almost a tradition to fake and build up broken franklinite crystals in matrix! Luckily, this one survived and was never played with. It probably dates to older workings in the late 1800s to early 1900s, and is not recently found.
A lustrous metallic 1.8 cm octahedron with fluorescent (red) calcite and another trace fl.(green) mineral. It has some damage and one part of the front tip is missing, hence low price
ex. Marilyn Dodge
This is a very attractive and unusually modified crystal (they are usually octahedrons with dodecahedral truncations). The luster is medium, and it is complete except for the back face being contacted. Overall, a very good thumb.

2.0 x 2.0 x 1.6 cm. Highly lustrous, sharp, black franklinite octahedrons aesthetically set in calcite matrix form a very showy thumbnail from the famous Franklin Mine. Ex. Dick Jones Collection.
6.8 x 4.6 x 3.5 cm. A showy Sterling Hill Mine combination specimen of blocky, rose-red rhodonite crystals on massive rhodonite matrix and RICHLY COVERED with lustrous, octahedral franklinite crystals. There are many more franklinites on the back of this excellent and classic combo piece. Ex. George Elling Collection.
6.3 x 5.1 x 4.5 cm. A CLASSIC, RICH and showy Sterling Hill specimen composed entirely of very sharp, moderate lustre, franklinite octahedrons to 1.8 cm. The central, large octahedron really sets this fine piece off. Very clean overall, with only a bit of periphery damage. Highly representative of the species and locality.
5.8 x 4.7 x 4.5 cm. Sharp and lustrous, jet-black franklinite octahedrons richly cover mounded calcite matrix on this showy and excellent specimen from the famous Sterling Hill Mine. The largest franklinite, at 2.2 cm, is proudly and aesthetically perched at the top of the piece. The crystals have textbook octahedral form. There is some contacting and bruising on the top crystal - hard to say how much of which, but this remains an extremely rich and highly representative example of the species and locality. Super orange fluorescence on the calcite. Ex. Charles Hansen Collection.
5.3 x 3.9 x 2.4 cm. A fine example of an American classic, this crystal of franklinite could hardly be sharper. It measures 1.7 cm tip-to-tip and sticks out beautifully from the matrix. Ex. Stoudt Collection.
6.2 x 4 x 3.2 cm. A classic combination piece of beautiful deep red crystalline Zincite (mostly massive) on a matrix of the classic Franklin suite, including highly fluorescent Willemite and franklinite. The zincite crystals are embedded in the mass, and you can see some crystal faces in cleavage sections. Ex. Charlie Key.
2.6 x 2.0 x 1.8 cm. A classic, fine and uncommon thumbnail from the Sterling Hill Mine. A sharp, lustrous franklinite crystal is perched on a sharp, euhedral, tannish-gray willemite crystal. It is rare to find a nice franklinite on well-crystallized willemite. Excellent and typical yellow-green fluorescence on the willemite.
A fairly sharp 1.6 cm octohedron of franklinite perched in contrasting calcite and willemite matrix. 4.5 x 4 x 2 cm
A HUGE specimen with highly fluorescent calcite and willemite, on which are perched some very fine franklinite crystals to 2.5 cm in size. The largest crystal is absolutely first-rate for the species. 10 x 9 x 7 cm
A sharp 3 cm crystal perched on matrix of fluorescent calcite and willemite. This crystal is so close to being a killer (but there are two missing back corners) 5 x 4 x 3.5 cm
Combo piece with a highly fluorescent willemite crystal measuring 2 cm tall, perched on matrix. 4.5 x 3 x 2.5 cm
