K-117 - Schorl, Foitite, Fluorite on Feldspar - $ 600 SOLD Erongo Mountains, Namibia small cabinet, 6.5 x 5.8 x 3.7 cm ex. Charlie Key
A strange combination specimen featuring a single stark green fluorite isolated on top of schorl crystals. This in itself is unusual. The larger crystals are schorl, and I am told (though havent analysed), that the smaller tourmaline crystals , almost needlelike, are the related tourmaline species foitite
MD-118182 - Foitite - - Archived Fisher Quarry, Topsham, Sagadahoc Co., Maine, USA miniature, 4.4 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm.
4.4 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm. A gemmy and lustrous, deep blue INDICOLITE variety of foitite crystal with minor green zones of elbaite from the famous Fisher Quarry of Maine! The backlit photo highlights the deep blue color saturation and gemminess. Ex. D.L. Leavitt and James Zigras Collections. 10 grams.

MD-129519 - Schorl, Fluorite, Feldspar Group, Foitite - - Archived Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia small cabinet, 6.5 x 5.8 x 3.7 cm

MD-131918 - Foitite - - Archived Erongo Mountain, Usakos and Omaruru Districts, Erongo Region, Namibia large cabinet, 16.2 x 9.4 x 8.0 cm.
16.2 x 9.4 x 8.0 cm. A huge specimen of black tourmaline overgrowing a large matrix of feldspar, coated on one side by a chalky carbonate (could be removed, if you wish, with acid). The piece is actually quite pretty as is, though - the contrast makes it more visually appealing, to me, than an all black surface. Crystals run to 4.5 cm. Notably, Charlie says this style of so-called schorl from Erongo has been characterized recently as the related species of tourmaline, foitite. Ex. Charlie Key Collection.
MD-200670 - Foitite - - Archived Mt Mica Quarry, Paris, Oxford Co., Maine, USA thumbnail, 1.9 x 1.7 x 1.2 cm.
1.9 x 1.7 x 1.2 cm. A rare, old-time, purple foitite from Mt. Mica, Maine. The lustrous crystal is strongly striated and is doubly terminated, with the terminations being etched. The un-retouched backlit photo highlights the purple color saturation and gemminess of this crystal. From an older museum collection dating to prior to WW I.
MD-22984 - Foitite, Albite - - Archived Paprok, Nuristan Province (Nurestan; Nooristan), Afghanistan small cabinet, 6.2 x 5.5 x 4 cm
A riveting purple-capped foitite on contrasting rosettes of stark white albite makes this a highly unusual specimen . The termination is perfect save for a tiny ding on the leftmost small edge which does not visually detract. The purple color is visible, nicely enough, with only minimal back-lighting required and these shots were taken without a particularly strong light. 6.2 x 5.5 x 4 cm All Content and Design ©1996-2010 The ArkenstonePowered by http://mineralwebsites.comBy-species Galleries | ||||||||||||||
