A striking plate of flattened translucent green fluorite cubes with preferentially frosted faces from the famous Sunnyside Mine of Colorado. This is old material and almost impoosible to obtain on the market nowadays, especially in crystals of this size. Interior cleavage gives the beautiful color effects. Purple fluorescence. Ex Collectors Edge specimen. 8.9 x 7.1 x 3.8 cm
Translucent crystals to 2.4 cm on edge, with some of the white matrix showing around the edges as a backdrop. 10.5 x 7.3 x 3.8 cm
23.0 x 11.3 x 9.0 cm. An impressive cabinet specimen from the famous and now-closed Elmwood Mine. Three, lustrous, partially gemmy, purple fluorite cubes to 3.6 cm are set on a solid, 3-dimensional matrix of sharp, lustrous, black sphalerite crystals. Some corners of the fluorite cubes are beautifully gemmy, with yellow tinting and sharp edge phantoms. Ex. Consie Prince dealer stock, put away in the 1970s.
4.3 x 3.8 x 3.6 cm. The Dr. Miguel Romero Collection of Mexican minerals was universally considered to be the world’s finest. It was on display for many years, following his death, at the University of Arizona Mineral Museum. His collection recently sold and was the subject of a special supplement to the Mineralogical Record. This striking, beautiful and fine fluorite and calcite specimen from Chihuahua was on display at the University. A gorgeous, 1.5 cm, limpid, green and purple fluorite cube with modified, cuboctahedral corners dominates this very fine piece. The purple phantoms along the edges of all of the fluorite cubes are striking.
5 x 3.2 x 2 cm. The mines of this district are famous for the interestingly etched Fluorites that have been produced over the years. Here we have a pair of etched crystals that are completely gemmy from end to end, with beautiful cubic terminations that are clear and lightly purple.
9.5 x 6.2 x 5.5 cm. A large single Fluorite crystal dusted with tiny chalcopyrites inside and out. This is absolutely classic for Illinois- superb luster, yellow core and purple to clear edges. Also, it is gemmier than you normally find from Illinois, especially for this size.
6.2 x 4.4 x 3.0 cm. Transparent crystals of fluorite with beautiful internal zoning: golden cores with purple exteriors, with a sharp thin band of very dark purple running through the lighter purple. Intergrown with the fluorites are crystals of wine-red sphalerite.
Lustrous, complex faces and bevels make this gemmy Naica fluorite really glow. The sphalerite adds a pleasing accent. 6 x 5.4 x 3.2 cm
4.2 x 3.2 x 2.4 cm. Erongo is best-known for its aquamarines and schorls, but it has also produced these unique very bright green fluorites on stark white matrix. These crystals measure to 2 cm on edge. They are internally zoned, with bright green cubes floating inside colorless fluorite.
A fine plate of sharp, transparent fluorites showing the classic Okarusu green/purple tones. The matrix in back was trimmed to a thin layer in back so that there are areas of translucent fluorite you can see right through when the specimen is displayed, really isolating and showing off the crystals, and letting the light get to them from behind (does not show up in the photo). These are notoriously hard to shoot, so if you like it at all from the photos, you have my guarantee you will love it in person. 10 x 9.5 x 4 cm
6.3 x 5.1 x 4.7 cm. Yes, this very large fluorite crystal is cleaved all over, but what makes it yet a wonderful specimen is its intense color. Fluorites of this color from Pakistan are often cut into magnificent stones for collectors.
Superb, glassy crystals to 4.5 cm with beautiful bevels and phantoms! 11.8 x 6.8 x 5.2 cm
6.9 x 4.6 x 2.7 cm. Sometimes we are surprised by a new fluorite find, despite having seen so many before. This is a mesmerizing specimen from this unusual pocket found in early 2008, showing sharp square phantoms inside the cube faces.
11.6 x 9.7 x 4.1 cm. Both baryte and Fluorite are well known from these now-closed mines. This specimen I find one of the most aesthetically appealing of all I have seen of this material, for the combination. I like the stark contrast of the forms of the baryte and the fluorite. In person, the fluorites are more gemmy and transparent than they appear in the photo.
4.6 cm in largest dimension. Five specimens of fluorite from Shangbao, showing a lot of variety. You can see the characteristic blushes of purple in most of them, along with the pretty bevels that are familiar with these. Some have glassy faces, other frosty faces or windows surrounded by frosty bevels.
