Catapleiite, Fluorite, Epididymite, Aegirine from Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada [db_pics/mdpics/MD-20284a.jpg]

A choice thumbnail of this unusual material, of which several dozen were available and I picked 4 I regarded as bit nicer than most. This particular specimen also shows off the new find of Epididymite, in the form of shockingly well-formed crystals! 2 x 2 x 1.5 cm

A choice thumbnail of this unusual material, of which several dozen were available and I picked 4 I regarded as bit nicer than most. This one is one of the sharpest crystals, and had the best association with bright red, gemmy manganoneptunites. 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 cm

6.9 x 4.9 x 1.6 cm. The Okorusu Mine is best-known for its purple and green fluorites, but now and then (uncommonly) the miners have hit a pocket of golden-yellow crystals like these – to 1.2 cm on edge. Not many came out.

9.6 x 6.8 x 4.8 cm. This is a superb, glass-clear, phantom fluorite cube. This crystal (2.3 cm on edge) really is like a cube of glass, making the phantom that much more captivating. The fluorite is perched on a matrix of sugary (baryte?)-covered fluorite crystals.

Fluorite from Xianghualing Mine (Hsianghualing Mine), Xianghualing Sn-polymetallic ore field, Linwu Co., Chenzhou Prefecture, Hunan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-203106a.jpg]

8.2 x 5.8 x 5.2 cm. This is a really fine representative specimen from a find about 4 years ago in China of two generations of fluorite of different colors, growing atop one another. Underneath are nearly colorless octahedra with a hint of purple. On top is the later generation of glowing green fluorite – here, a large octahedron measuring 5 cm along the edge, with beautiful form.

11.6 x 10.2 x 6.3 cm. A large cluster of big crystals of purple fluorite that have an amazing bright purple glow to them under good light. These sizeable crystals measure up to 3.5 cm along the edge.

Fluorite from Mahodari, Nasik District, Maharashtra, India [db_pics/mdpics/MD-203166a.jpg]

7.7 x 5.6 x 3.4 cm. These strange and uncommon "fried egg" fluorites from Nasik are popular with collectors. Not many come out; in fact, botryoidal fluorite is rare from anywhere. This "egg" stands well up off the matrix rather than being embedded in it, and it has unusual transparency to it as well. Measures 2.7 cm across, on a matrix of sparkly quartz.

Fluorite, Baryte from Ojuela Mine, Mapimí, Mun. de Mapimí, Durango, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-203168a.jpg]

7.9 x 5.8 x 4.9 cm. A rare combination specimen from a prolific and classic Mexican locality. Here, a pristine, translucent purple fluorite with a pretty "melty" looking luster sits nestled amidst thick crystals of colorless baryte. The fluorite measures 1.5 cm. Fluorite is uncommon here.

Fluorite from Cooks Peak District (Cooke's Peak District), Luna Co., New Mexico, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-203179a.jpg]

7.2 x 5.5 x 5.0 cm. Look at the incredible mix of color from the glowing interior of this tightly-intergrown cluster of New Mexico fluorite crystals. It ranges from bright green to very light green, with light scarlet on the exterior. You can see a second generation of very small fluorites speckled on the surface.

10.0 x 5.7 x 3.5 cm. A cluster of wonderful purple fluorite cubes piled on a matrix of massive sphalerite, from the Elmwood Mine. The crystals measure to 1.7 cm; there are contacts only around the periphery. The crystals have fine transparency and pretty, silky faces. You can see some small red sphalerites sprinkled here and there. The matrix is massive sphalerite.

5.6 x 3.3 x 2.7 cm. An aesthetic cluster of three, glassy, water-clear, purple fluorite cubes with excellent edge phantoms from Berbes, Spain. Crystals reach 2.6 cm and are nicely accented with glassy, colorless calcite crystals.

Fluorite, Quartz from Amborompotsy, Ambatofinandrahana District, Amoron'i Mania Region, Fianarantsoa Province, Madagascar [db_pics/mdpics/MD-203905a.jpg]

6.8 x 1.9 x 1.8 cm. An amazing example of the phenomena of crystal inclusions, where over a dozen little purple fluorite crystals can be clearly seen inside a transparent quartz crystal. The fluorites grew on the surface of the quartz at some point during the formation of the quartz crystal - then the growth of the quartz crystal continued, engulfing the little fluorites so that now they can be clearly seen inside the crystal.

Fluorite, Celestine from Melchor Múzquiz, Mun. de Melchor Múzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-203921a.jpg]

7.1 x 5.0 x 3.5 cm. A shard of frosty celestine has been completely wrapped by a profusion of complexly stepped, light purple fluorite; this intricate, architectural stepping is characteristic of fluorites from this locality, as is the association with celestine. Classic 1970s Mexican material.

Fluorite, Celestine from Clay Center, Ottawa Co., Ohio, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-203929a.jpg]

4.2 x 2.6 x 2.6 cm. A stunning miniature of fluorite from a relatively recent find at Clay Center. The fluorite has the amber color characteristic of these finds, and here, this color is concentrated as a sharp phantom in the center of the crystal. The crystal is beautifully accented by blades of translucent celestine.
