A showy specimen with sparkling quartz on top of deep green fluorite - very nice and unusual for the locality, as well!
I have never seen another specimen like this, with surreal color and appearance for the locality. The fluorite is a unique green hue in color, and has glassy lustre and excellent transparency. The specimen features one large modified octohedron sitting in the middle of the cluster, but since it is all so transparent it looks like this crystal just emerges from glass, almost. Very neat , and better in person!
This specimen is a large 3-dimensional knob that USED to be calcite but has now been entirely converted into sparkly purple fluorite. The color stinks in the photos but in person it IS rather purple, I assure you. It also is prettier. The calcite scalenohedrons are small, to 1 cm, and in person you can see tha tht especimen is literally made up of them though here it looks like a lump. BETTER IN PERSON! I think, given the size and condition of the specimen, that this is a really significant piece!
This unique specimen has such startling color contrast between the green and the white that it looks fake, almost. The piece features a wonderful gem green fluorite that is translucent to transparent, on which is perched smartly a doubly-terminated crystal of calcite that has been changed over to quartz! I have never seen the like from China and it seems a one-off specimen that I found in amongst a lot of fluorite with just a few other specimens showing association with quartz casts but no sharp pseudos like this one. Oh - almost forgot to mention those two internal white spots you see in the fluorite are actually 2 more small pseudos, INCLUDED INSIDE THE FLUORITE!
weight = 20 pounds This gorgeous specimen literally glows with vivid deep green color. The crystals are naturally lustrous and glassy, and GEMMY as heck. The average xls are gemmy as little ice cubes, and in size to 1.7 cm. Some are penetration-twinned in classic style. There must be hundreds of them here, making this one of the very best large display-sized specimens to come out of recent mining at this reopened old location.
A magnificent, colorful specimen with sharp, translucent royal purple octohedra to 7 cm in size. These crystals form a 3-dimensional ridge running the length of the specimen, that is complete all around the sides and on the backside as well. It is a BIG specimen, the biggest fine specimen of this type I have seen from the mine to date. I have seen a limited number of smaller ones, all notable for the sharp quality of the octohedral crystals, but the mine seems to be fairly low-key and I did not see a large number of specimens, just a dozen or so, at the show (of which this was one of the 2 best and by far the biggest example). BETTER IN PERSON!
A choice miniature of this unusual material, because it features several species in aerial agglomeration! The pseudomorph forms the base for the neptunite and Epididymite sprays, and is itself perched delicately upon aegerine-speared albite. This particular specimen also shows off the new find of Epididymite , in the form of shockingly well-formed crystals! There were just a few miniatures of this quality - most were thumbnails.
A choice thumbnail of this unusual material, of which several dozen were available and I picked 4 I regarded as bit nicer than most. This particular specimen also shows off the new find of Epididymite, in the form of shockingly well-formed crystals!
A choice thumbnail of this unusual material, of which several dozen were available and I picked 4 I regarded as bit nicer than most. This one is one of the sharpest crystals, and had the best association with bright red, gemmy mn-neptunites.
This is one of the largest such specimen I have seen of this now-classic material, called "raspberry fluorite" by many in the direct market. It is a pristine large plate with many sharp fluorites to about 3 cm in size. In good lighting, it GLOWS with color! The shot here shows it in pretty moderate normal room lighting...in a case, it is far more intense. I have seen only a handful of specimens of this size and quality, trickling out over the last few years. I am told , and believe, that this mine produces just a few small pockets now and then and is not very productive in the manner of the Hunan fluorite locales.
At the show, a few dozen of these round purple objects turned up on the market, quickly selling to me and others as we realized they are probably the world's largest and best examples of botryoidal growth in fluorite. Also, they are prime carving material for lapidary, with a beautiful translucence and purple hue throughout! This was the smallest I had seen, in good condition - most are large, at 5 inches and up in size, too big for most folks anyhow. This is perfect size for any collection of fluorite of Chinese minerals, for those who don't need doorstop-size! So, i actually value the little one pretty highly , given the rest are either big and chunky or too banged up. This is a new locality, and a mine name is not known at this time (well, not known to me, anyhow)
This is a well-balanced specimen with a 3.4-cm "raspberry" fluorite crystal perched smack in teh middle. it is highly lustrous, translucent, and has the richest purpley color from here that you can ask for. the starkly contrasting matrix shows it off nicely! These have trickled out now a few at a time, for the last 2 years, never really all that common though.
This specimen features a sharp 3.5 x 2.7 x 2.2 cm crystal with a riveting pastel green color, totally gemmy, perched on matrix of quartz druse. In person, both the internal phantom and the gemminess are more pronounced, as well as the stark 3-dimensionality of the crystal itself. Hard to convey in pics! I have seen many specimens from this mine but seldom do you see such a nice isolated cyrstal, as opposed to the usual jumbled clusters
STUNNING specimen with rich purpley and blueish hues, intermixed , and with a variety of crazy modifications of the basic octohedron giving the crystals a science fiction appearance. This is a beautiful specimen that is pristin eand complete and just plain sparkling and gemmy, all around! Unique style, which came out some time ago in teh late 90s
