A strange quartz specimen that seems to have beta-quartz shaped smoky crystals, on matrix with little green fluorites. These smokies are REALLY dark, opaque, and strikingly sharp. The contrast on the green is interesting, too. Never seen one like it, myself

A superb and unusually large example of quartz that has cast over an original growth of fluorite crystals, known sometimes from Cumberland in association with other things but really quite rare as a large piece like this. Beautiful specimen, complete on both sides! Note an inked black arrow on the back of this specimen was made by the early-1900s AMNH curator Gratacap in curating the display specimens from the Bement collection after it was donated to the AMNH by financier JP Morgan, who purchased the collection after Bement's death. The arrow denotes the rear direction on the shelf on which the specimen was to be placed, thus showing its proper orientation on the display shelves of the museum. As the MinRecord archive states, Clarence Sweet Bement was one of the greatest American mineral collectors of all time, from around 1866 to 1900, known for his high level of taste in specimens - even in the oddities such as this! An unusually attractive small miniature with very bright calaverite , both massive and crystallized, mixed with massive purple fluorite. The freestanding calaverite is 2.5 mm. The cluster of aggregate crystals is about 1 cm across. RARE WITH MINE ATTRIBUTION on old Schortmann's label and on museum label!

Fluorites come in virtually all colors of the rainbow, and are some of the few gems that occur in multicolor stones. I've seen this type of Fluorite from China, but rarely from Argentina. The stone comes from a trusted source so I have confidence that it's genuine. The stone shows alternating yellow, green and blue-green color banding throughout. It's a very attractive gem and is only very slightly included with an elongated "Emerald" cut.

The stone comes from a trusted source so I have confidence that it's genuine. The stone shows alternating purple, blue-green and golden-yellow color banding throughout. It's a very attractive gem with a standard "Emerald" cut. A beautiful, larger, multi-color Fluorite for any collector.
