One of the best examples from a new find of fluorite in northern South Africa, on the road to Namibia, that was brought to my attention by Desmond Sacco at the Munich show. This elegant specimen features a single large egg of fluorite in a nest of quartz, making for great aesthetics. the alternating faces of this fluorite are either pebbly or smooth, making for a striking, complex appearance to the crystal. It is very transparent internally, through the clear frontal face. This is an attrractive and highly unusual specimen, and is one of the better examples for its size from the find (more will come down the road, I am sure, but this should always be among the better ones, I would think, from the representative material I have seen so far) 6.7 x 5.1 x 3.8 cm
This is one of the best specimens known from a very small find in the Sahara desert that was mined for only a short time by a couple of intrepid miners about 19 months ago. The fluorites were not found in rich pockets, but one at a time, and the conditions in that part of the Sahara were so forbidding that eventually the guys just gave up – it wasn’t worth the effort. The rarity of these specimens makes them all that much more desirable. The rectangular crystals have intense purple color, and fine transparency and luster. The display face of this specimen angles back perfectly to show off the crystals at their best. The crystals measure to 2 cm across. This specimen is actually the last we know of from our own sources, and my associates and I didn’t see a single one of them for sale at the Tucson show. So they have pretty much all disappeared into collections. This may be your only shot at a really superb specimen from this find. 12 x 6 x 5.5 cm
Elmwood Mine material continues to drain from the market, with the mine having been closed for some time now. There is just not much to be had out there anymore. This is a large plate of sphalerite crystals (the zinc ore that was the reason for the mine in the first place) with about 20 nice purple fluorite crystals on it – most measuring about 1.5 cm. There are a few very small corner dings, but for a specimen of this size it is in good shape. The crystals show fine transparency. A classic Elmwood combo! 14.5 x 11 x 5 cm
This is one of the most spectacular Illinois fluorite crystals I have seen! In addition to its prodigious size, the pics just cannot capture the AMAZING bright blue, sharply outlined zoning inside! The best way to show this specimen would be to put it on a simple lighted stand that sends light up into the crystal – it is truly amazing. Hold it up to a light and the interior just GLOWS. The crystal is in GREAT shape, with only one small corner ding that is not significant relative to the size of the specimen, and PRISTINE everywhere else. Just on size alone, this would be an amazing crystal of ANY mineral! But a beautifully zoned Illinois fluorite – well, so much the better! These are vanishing from the market rapidly to be sure, but even durin gthe mines' heyday you did not see large crystals of this size and showiness very often. 11.5 x 10.5 x 10 cm
These are probably the GLASSIEST fluorites ever to come from China! They give great Dalnegorsk pieces a run for their money, for sure – at a fraction of the price! The only trouble is capturing them in a pic – you just can’t believe how clear these crystals are! The crystals (large ones, to 2.8 cm on edge) are wrapped completely around a thin shard of matrix. There is one cleaved crystal that gets lost in the shuffle anyhow (Priced at half because of it, but most folks wouldn't even notice) , and one minor ding – overall, the specimen is in fine shape. 15 x 7.5 x 4.6 cm
These are probably the GLASSIEST fluorites ever to come from China! The only trouble is capturing them in a pic – you just can’t believe how clear these crystals are! And this one, in fact, represents the absolute TOP QUALITY for this find! When you receive this specimen, you simply will be blown away by the gemmy, glassy transparency of these crystals (to 3 cm). On this specimen, they are piled up just perfectly to give a view right through the crystals. A couple of minor dings do not detract and are hard to see in any case. The crystals wrap all the way around the specimen, 360 degrees – this is a thin ridge of matrix covered on all sides. This is just world-class fluorite – at a fraction of what a similar Dalnegorsk piece would cost! 11.5 x 8 x 5.5 cm
These are probably the GLASSIEST fluorites ever to come from China! They give great Dalnegorsk pieces a run for their money, for sure – at a fraction of the price. The only trouble is capturing them in a pic – you just can’t believe how clear these crystals are! This specimen has crystals as large as any amongst these Chinese fluorites – to FOUR CM on edge! Wonderful bright green color and glassy transparency. This one has pretty corner bevels and interesting stepped growth on the faces. Fine display face, with just the normal (for these) damage around the periphery. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON! 9.5 x 7 x 7 cm cm
These are probably the GLASSIEST fluorites ever to come from China! They give great Dalnegorsk pieces a run for their money, for sure – at a fraction of the price! The only trouble is capturing them in a pic – you just can’t believe how clear these crystals are. The crystals measure up to 4 cm across! A couple of minor dings do not detract and are hard to see in any case. The display face is in SUPERB condition. This was shot by a different photographer than the others, so it looks a bit different. 12.5 x 11 x 8 cm
RAZOR-SHARP, LARGE crystals of transparent, bright-green fluorite crystals to 3 cm across, with phantoms inside whose corners are beautifully colored with a purple blush! The inner crystals, with their purple corners, formed first, and in a later generation of growth, were enveloped by clear green fluorite. DRAMATIC and pretty! 13.5 x 9 x 7.5 cm
RAZOR-SHARP, LARGE crystals of transparent, bright-green fluorite to 3 cm across, with phantoms inside whose corners are beautifully colored with a purple blush! Contact on back of top crystals and lower part of display face, but the focus is on the central part of the specimen, where you have these dramatically zoned crystals and a particularly intense purple blush with this specimen. 10 x 8.5 x 6.5 cm
A rich coverage of sharp, gemmy crystals to 1.3 cm (most are around one centimeter), on a triangular-shaped matrix. A few of the crystals have wrapped around earlier ones in a second generation of growth! 16 x 15 x 7 cm
This spectacular specimen has it all: prodigious size, superb, sharp, gemmy crystals (to around one centimeter), and most importantly, ISOLATION of the crystals on a matrix of snowy quartz crystals! This is the most prized variety of Blanchard fluorite specimen, and what a dazzling piece it is! An awful lot of bang for the buck at under a grand! 23 x 12 x 5.8 cm
A beautifully-formed modified octahedron of fluorite, mined last year at the Nikolaevsky Mine. The crystal is complete on top and all the way around, save for the underside of one corner which is contacted; the back of the crystal is the matrix contact. The faces have the pebbly surface characteristic of recent fluorite finds there, and modifications include bevels and flat terminations which give a view into the gemmy interior. MUCH MORE CLEAR AND TRANSPARENT IN PERSON, AS THE CLARITY MAKES LIGHT REFLECT AND IT APPEARS MURKIER IN THE PIC THAN IN REAL LIFE. 6 x 5.5 x 4 cm
If you missed out on getting one of these incredible fluorites, probably the most exciting find of 2004 (with a few still tricking out), here is a chance to pick up a MAJOR one! This specimen has it all. BIG crystals (to 4.5 cm tip-to-tip!); The IDEAL blend of green and purple tones considered the most desirable for this find; and, SUPERB condition! Photographed under strong light to bring out the color. 19.5 x 14 x 4.5 cm
Sharp crystals to 1 cm of the famous teal-blue Blanchard fluorite. 5.9 x 4.8 x 4 cm
