Until these pink fluorites were discovered in Mexico, Peru and the Alps were the only sources for pink fluorite, and the cost of a specimen such as this was (and still is) astronomical from those localities. These octahedrons measure up to 1.8 cm. 10.4 x 8.1 x 3.6cm
A cluster of unusually gemmy Canadian fluorite crystals, to 2.8 cm on edge. It features flat corner modifications. There ARE a couple of clean cleaves on this specimen but its pretty overall and has great locality value. 5.2 x 5.1 x 3.6cm
This wonderful Weardale fluorite is from OLD finds. The crystals measure to 1.5 cm, and richly cover the matrix all the way around! 11.1 x 9.0 x 6.2cm
A sizeable plate of TRANSPARENT, light green crystals of fluorite, to 2 cm on edge. 14.8 x 9.7 x 3.7cm
Two intergrown, large octahedrons of light green fluorite, one of them 5 cm across, with good transparency. There is a bit of contact around the bottom periphery but the crystals are complete. From the collection of noted collector Steve Smale. 9.5 x 5.7 x 4.7cm
A large and spectacular Okarusu fluorite, featuring a HUGE crystal 7 cm in either direction, one of the most astounding I have ever seen from this locality! What makes it special is not only the size, but the amazing stepped corner modifications, with a blush of purple color, accenting the gemmy green interior. The specimen was shot in strong light to bring this out better. The smaller (though still large!) crystals surrounding the monster also show this stepped growth and the same color zoning. WOW! 15.2 x 13.0 x 8.5cm
Another fluorite from the Okarusu, this one entirely different from the other in this auction! This is a gorgeous, sizeable plate of gemmy crystals to 1.5 cm, with quartz crystals interspersed here and there. This is SUPERB transparency for Okarusu! 14.1 x 10.7 x 6.1cm
Flat, translucent plate of sharp red crystals! 2.7 x 1.7 x 0.8cm
Adorable doublet of two interconnected crystals, small but choice! Dramatic cluster of translucent red crystals 1.8 x 1.5 x 0.7 cm
This Illinois combo piece is TRULY dramatic, with its sharp, silvery 3-cm crystal of galena (with textbook form) contrasting beautifully with deep purple cubes of fluorite (to 1.5 cm). The galena is complete all around, 360. This is a very rare combo for the region, and a particularly aesthetic piece, from a long-closed mine 7.7 x 4.2 x 2.5 cm
Tell me, could there be a finer specimen of an old Fort Wayne fluorite? The aesthetics on this killer are just overwhelming. First off, the 3.5-cm fluorite crystal is a golden, gemmy, glowing jewel. But more than that, look how it is perched on this thin stalk of matrix, showing it off from all sides. There’s a smaller accenting crystal just below the large one. Virtually microscopic wear on a couple of edges doesn’t detract at all. You NEVER see these - i grew up in the midwest and even in the collections in Ohio and Indiana that I knew of, I never saw but one other of this quality. WOW! 8 x 4.5 x 3 cm
This fluorite came with a label showing it to have been collected by expert miner and Blanchard Mine operator ray DeMark in 2000. It is a wonderful botryoidal fluorite, of a light purple color, translucent, with a pebbly surface. I have not seen much of this material on the market at all! And if this one was good enough for him to keep in his collection, it is GOOD! 8.3 x 7.4 x 3.5cm
This is a water clear, TRANSPARENT, lustrous, light emerald green crystal of spinel twin fluorite so shockingly sharp and clean that I would never have gussed it to be Pakistani at first. It is of the likes of which I have not seen before in so many ways from ANY locality. The twins from this place tend to be etched and worn, and nowhere near as bright as this one. But here you have it - bright, and with glassy faces to boot. There are a couple of minor edge "wilbers" which do not detract from the symmetry and beauty of the piece and are trivial in context. I would really rank this cute miniature, for show value and pizzazz , right up there along with far more expensive fluorites from this part of the world in terms of sheer interest and desirability! MUCH BETTER in person! 4.9 x 3 x 1.8 cm
This is an exquisite grouping of interlocked crystals of color zoned fluorite. The crystals, which reach 3 cm across, are a light blue with yellow cores along with thin purple zoning. The crystals exhibit gemminess, and waxy luster. There is also minor but lustrous sphalerite and a 1 cm across, twinned, colorless, calcite crystal. This is a lovely example of Illinois fluorite, so sculptural and unique compared to the more blocky types which predominate, and you can see why somebody who is generally a gem species collector really loved this one so much. The piece is a complete floater, crystallized minutely, if roughly, all across the backside. It is as nearly pristine on front as one would expect of a Smale collection piece; with one rehealed corner cleave near the base that occurred in geologic time, and one small, trivial cleave off a small cube's lower corner. 8.1 x 7.2 x 3.4 cm
This remarkable oldtimer features GEMMY purple cubes of the HIGHEST glassy lustre and best color. They are just gorgeous, and pics cannot convey it, given the size of the plate. The largest fluorite , an interpenetration twin, is 2 cm across. The display face is completely covered with these gorgeous crystals, and also a few galenas scattered about. This is a true classic, from the locality which provided the specimens from which the very word FLUORESCENCE was coined in the early days of mineralogy. One seldom sees such pristine, large plates today. It is, of course, HIGHLY fluorescent a neon purple color under UV light. 18.5 x 16 x 3.6 cm
