This is a large plate of stunningly beautiful fluorite from the Okarusu Mine. The crystals are not only unusually transparent for the mine, but they have really unusual coloring too - green in the center, with purple corners! Between the crystals here and there are little white "flowers" of quartz crystals. The fluorites mesaure up to 2 cm, and are razor-sharp. The plate is tilted at an angle in the pics to give you a better view of the crystals, but in reality it is VERY big. A truly exceptional fluorite specimen in every regard! 14.9 x 11.7 x 7.0cm
HUGE, gemmy, light teal-blue fluorite crystals (to 3.5 cm on edge!), ranged along the top of a cluster of quartz, with minor accenting arsenopyrite crystals. There is a very minor bit of wear, but almost unnoticeable relative to the size of the specimen. These big crystals are so gemmy that you can see the matrix very clearly right through them! This large and impressive specimen can be displayed perhaps even more beautifully upright, with the biggest crystals at the top. 12.7 x 9.2 x 7.1cm
These specimens were one of the few “new sensations” at the Tucson Show this year, especially as new finds were so scarce this year in general. We EXPECTED to see more at Denver but there were none to be had except for a small parcel which the collector had saved for us, based on a commitment we made right after Tucson when they flew off the shelves. The quartz crystal has a half-dozen purple-blue, sharp fluorite crystals included inside. The fluorites grew on the face of the quartz crystals at some point during their development in the pocket, and were later engulfed as the quartz continued its growth. The quartz crystals are more “silky” than lustrous in appearance. The guy who brought these from Madagascar said he is not sure how many more will come out – there was no way to tell if there will be more production. Crystal-in-crystal inclusions of this sort are of course quite exceptional, and are more often a one-off “oddity” than an entire pocket. 9.8 x 2.2 x 1.8cm
The beautiful stepped lavender crystals that are uniquely characteristic of the Musquiz locality are here represented in big crystals (to 2.5 cm) with wonderful transparency. The crystals are wrapped around a shard of celestine, and the specimen can be beautifully displayed either with the solid face of crystals as the display face, or the other side with crystals ranged along the edge of the celestine. 8.7 x 7.1 x 3.6cm
A huge plate of classic teal-blue Blanchard Mine fluorite! The plate is COVERED with fine, translucent-to-transparent crystals, measuring to 1.5 cm. Despite its size, there is trivial, very minimal damage only here and there. This is the best color and quality to come out in a long time, and in fact was mined over a decade ago; and the size of this specimen makes it a really important piece! 25.2 x 18.9 x 6.1cm
A SUPERB, PRISTINE fluorite thumbnail of near-transparent, lustrous octohedrons of the VERY BEST rose-pink color from the Argentiere Glacier at Chamonix, France. This is CLASSIC and very desirable material from a sought-after locality. 2.1 x 1.8 x 1.2 cm
3.5 x 2.9 x 2.3 cm. A sharp, 1.3 x 1.3 cm, mint-green fluorite octahedron is set on a sliver of matrix on this fine miniature from the famous and extinct Rock Candy Mine of British Columbia. Specimens of this sought-after color and quality most certainly date to prior to 1978. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection. Excellent white and purple fluorescence.
This is a large, superb doubly-terminated specimen from a find that represented one of the few “new sensations” at the Tucson Show this year, especially as new finds were so scarce this year in general. We EXPECTED to see more at Denver but there were none to be had except for a small parcel which the collector had saved for us, based on a commitment we made right after Tucson when they flew off the shelves. The quartz crystal has a dozen purple-blue, sharp fluorite crystals included inside. This crystal has a small ding on one of its termination, but that is common for these, and in fact this is in great condition for the find! 9.2 x 3.2 x 2.6cm
Until these pink fluorites were discovered in Mexico, Peru and the Alps were the only sources for pink fluorite, and the cost of a specimen such as this was (and still is) astronomical from those localities. Occasionally, such as with this particular piece, you get the wonderful clarity of an Alpine piece as well. These octahedrons measure up to 2.5 cm on edge - there is one particularly big and fine crystal here, an inch across, that really stands out. 9.1 x 8.4 x 4.0cm
Large crystals of the unique fluorite from Musquiz with its highly stepped faces, wrapped around a shard of celestine. The crystals measure to over 3 cm on edge, and are transparent enough that you can see the shard of celestine deep inside of the cluster. 10.6 x 7.5 x 5.9cm
From a unique pocket at the Okarusu encountered earlier this year, beautiful translucent yellow-tan crystals of fluorite, measuring to almost 3.5 cm on edge. This is a knob of crystals that grew around a purple core, and it is complete all around. There are a few dings, but not enough to detract from the beauty of these glowing crystals. 7.8 x 7.7 x 5.7cm
There is a very unusual Okarusu fluorite in this auction, and here is a classic one to balance it out. Superbly transparent crystals measuring to one centimeter on edge cover this large plate. You can see right through them to the matrix! 12.4 x 8.6 x 3.7cm
A very showy and pristine, cauliflower-like cluster of colorless and transparent, stair-stepped fluorite cubes on a stalk of matrix from the recent finds at the Xikuangshan Mine in China. Excellent dark purple fluorescence. Ex Marty Lewadny Collection. 5.4 x 5.4 x 5.1 cm
This large, wonderful Berbes fluorite measures over 5 cm on the edge! About as big as it gets from there, I think. It has a phantom towards the outside edge that is more dramatic in person. The crystal is a beautiful, glowing pastel purple, with a silky surface. The back is the natural contact face where the crystal was removed from matrix. 5.3 x 5.3 x 3.5 cm
This is, to my knowledge, the largest and most significant specimen from a small find at the Shangbao that is now finished. Very few specimens ever came from this pocket. We had the bulk of them at Tucson and our source brought this one to Denver to finish the lot off with us. Calcites of this form had been seen before, but NOT on fluorite. Even the small specimens from this find were expensive from the Chinese, who valued them highly for this beautiful and previously unseen combination. This specimen features an IMMENSE calcite crystal – 14 cm in length and 10 cm across – along with other large crystals, with teal-blue fluorite. In one place, two fine crystals grow out from a central point in a “V” shape. 28 x 15 x 14 cm
