Last week, we had a larger specimen from a recent lot with superb transparency and color. This is a smaller specimen from the same lot. Until these pink fluorites were discovered in Mexico, Peru and the Alps were the only sources for pink fluorite, and the cost of a specimen such as this was (and still is) astronomical from those localities. Occasionally, such as with this particular piece, you get the wonderful clarity of an Alpine piece as well. These octahedrons measure up to 2 cm on edge. 6.9 x 3.7 x 3.5 cm
This exciting material is all gone now, having been sold off pretty quickly after it appeared on the market recently, at prices up to five figures for good large plates. What makes it so cool is that you have these transparent-to-translucent octahedrons of fluorite growing right on top of an earlier generation of purple fluorite. With this specimen, the first generation of crystals is not the usual purple, but a darker green - still providing the pretty contrast between the two generations of crystals. Often, the earlier generation with these (underneath) is not well crystallized, but the darker octahedrons underneath on this one are really well-formed. The green color is MUCH BETTER in person - the pics washed it out for some reason. 8.2 x 5.5 x 5.3 cm
A GORGEOUS Elmwood specimen of highly lustrous, translucent and frosted, purple fluorite cubes to 1.8 cm jauntily perched on sparkly dolomite crystals. The fluorite cubes are also nicely zoned. CHOICE material from the Lewadny Collection, with the recent closing of the Elmwood Mine. 4.7 x 3.6 x 2.7 cm
A HIGHLY UNCOMMON and striking combination piece from the famous Sweet Home Mine. Bright green malachite coats well-crystallized, lustrous tetrahedrite crystals to 2.0 cm. Beautifully contrasting transparent to frosted purple fluorite cubes to 4 mm add to the panache of this piece. There is also a few tiny rhodochrosite crystals. There were only about 2 DOZEN pieces from this pocket and I managed to get most of the very best ones. Thought all were sold but found 2 left, recently. With the closing of the Sweet Home Mine, your opportunity to obtain one of these is literally gone. Malachite has always been rare from the mine and this combo piece is superb. 5.2 x 4.9 x 3.0 cm
These superb octahedral fluorites on quartz were THE big find of last year. If you did not get one, this is a FINE specimen, and good-sized too. The crystals are super-sharp, combining purple and green tones (which the prettiest do), and are well-balanced on the contrasting matrix, They measure to about 1.7 cm on edge. We shot a couple of backlit pics that really show these off. 12 x 6.8 x 3.1 cm
A cluster of the amazingly stepped crystals that Musquiz is known for - very gemmy and UNDAMAGED! 5.2 x 3.8 x 3.4 cm
A SUPERB and AESTHETIC Lewadny Collection Chinese specimen of a gorgeous, large, transparent, lustrous, blue-green to purple fluorite cube with beautifully attached quartz crystals. The large quartz crystal is doubly terminated. ALL of the corners and edges on the fluorite cube are pristine, which is very uncommon, in itself. The trivial bit of edge bruising to the large quartz crystal is barely noticeable and the contacting on the back of the fluorite is out of sight. EXCELLENT purple fluorescence. 8.5 x 7.6 x 6.8 cm
These Altai Mountain fluorites are just NOT AVAILABLE anywhere. This specimen and three large ones in a recent gallery update turned up as a total fluke from a contact who had them stashed away. They were found some years back in this mountainous area near Mongolia which hasn''t yet produced much compared to other parts of China. Deep purple, stepped cubes with tiered cubic sub-terminations. 6 x 4.5 x 2.7 cm
An adorable, pristine 1-cm cuboctahedral fluorite crystal perched on a shard of quartz - complete and with perfect form. 6.9 x 4.4 x 2.4 cm
A huge specimen of creedite, with crystals all over it. One can only imagine what a specimen of creedite this big and rich would have cost before this new find in Mexico. The crystals all over this specimen measure to about 1.5 cm, and fluorites here and there add color. There are a couple of contacts but this is almost a huge floater specimen. 15.9 x 12 x 11.5 cm
This is a BIG specimen of GORGEOUS purple fluorite from Musquiz, with the classic stepped and modified faces and what seem to be purple outlines to the crystals (though this is due to saturation of color at the faces and not actual zoning). The crystals are in fabulous condition, especially for such a big piece. A really exceptional fluorite specimen! 13.2 x 9.5 x 8.4 cm
This is an EXCEPTIONAL pink fluorite specimen. It is from a recent batch we were thrilled to get, with gemmy crystals, and a few ( like this one) have the cluster isolated on surrounding stark white matrix (these are hard to get!). Until these pink fluorites were discovered in Mexico, Peru and the Alps were the only sources for pink fluorite, and the cost of a specimen such as this was (and still is) astronomical from those localities. Occasionally, such as with this particular piece, you get the wonderful clarity of an Alpine piece (actually, gemmier and with deeper color). These octahedrons measure up to 1.5 cm. 10 x 9.1 x 3 cm
Superb, gemmy crystals of a very faint blue, with extremely sharp purple-edged phantom crystals inside! These phantoms are much more clearly visible in person. The crystals measure to 2 cm. 9.1 x 6.8 x 6.1 cm
Two silky, translucent-to-transparent crystals of light purple, with a bit of sphalerite on the back. The crystals measure to 3.3 cm on edge. There is contact on the back and one side where the specimen was removed from matrix. The Elmwood is closed and prices are going up on Elmwood material. 5.6 x 4.8 x 3.7 cm
Glassy cubes of fluorite to just over 1.5 cm piled up on a sparing matrix. Remarkable TRANSPARENT crystals! BETTER IN PERSON! 5.1 x 5.1 x 3.2 cm
