A cluster of equant, gemmy, pastel green crystals of fluorite, to 2.4 cm across, are emplaced on a matrix of splendent, black crystals of sphalerite, to 1.0 cm across. For added effect, there is a crystal of gray galena, .75 cm across, nestled among the fluorite crystals. Minor chipping to some of the peripheral fluorite faces does not materially affect the overall quality but is present.
Splendent crystals of galena, to 2.0 cm across, form the matrix for a cluster of gemmy, pastel green fluorite crystals, to 3.75 cm across. The fluorite cubes modified by octahedral faces exhibit the stepped growth for which Naica is famous. Only the slightest peripheral contact has been noted. This is a very nice example of what Naica can produce, and the spread-out physical arrangement makes it a lot of "bang for the buck" in terms of visual appeal. MORE colorful, MORE gemmy, in person. This piece actually has a pleasing green color that is better tha most here, fairly intense for Naica, that is dimmed in the photos because of the transparency of the large fat crystals.
The color in the center of this cluster of gemmy fluorite crystals is pastel green while around the periphera it is the very lightest pastel lavender. All the fluorite crystals, which reach 2.6 cm across, appear to be cubes with modifying octahedral faces. Stepped growth is also clearly evident. Splendent, black sphalerite forms the matrix for this piece. This is a dramatic and very 3-D specimen with appeal from several angles of display, good all around!
A core of pastel green and the periphera of pastel lavender highlight this cluster of interlocked crystals, to 3.5 cm across. The crystals appear to be cubes modified by octahedrons. I like the way the largest crystal is almost in the center of the cluster. Only the most minor contact/damage at the base of the specimen can be noted.
Of all the specimens described to this point, this piece has the most delicate mixed chromophores of pastel green and pastel lavender. It is colorless at first glance, you think. The very large center crystal is 5.5 cm across and pristine! Only on the back of the piece are there a few contacted points. These gemmy crystals appear to be cubes modified by octahedral faces. This specimen stands nicely and is really much better and more dramatic in person than it appears here! The dark spots you see inside are bright pyrite inclusions, more apparent in person. The right photo shows the piece tilted to the side to emphasize the delicate drapery of small quartzes on some edges of the fluorites.
Splendent, black sphalerite crystals, to 2.25 cm across, form a matrix on which is impaled a cluster of gemmy, pastel green and pastel lavender, fluorite crystals, to 2.5 cm across. The fluorite crystals exhibit stepped growth of cubes modified by octahedral faces. The 3 tiered specimen has very nice aesthetics, with the sparkle of the overlaying Quartz druse adding a lot to the overall impact. One of the more dramatic pieces, here, obviously!
This matrix specimen features several, gemmy, large bi-colored fluorite crystals. Thecore color is pastel green while the terminal faces are a pastel lavender. The largest crystal measures 5.0 cm across. The display face is pristine with just a few contacted edges on the periphery. Offsetting the fluorites, at the bottom of the specimen, are two splendent, black sphalerite crystals to 1.5 cm across. Does not get much more dramatic than this!
This one looks like some sea monster climbing up! It is just bizarre, having the isolated stacked chain of sucecssively larger crystals perched upon matrix which seems apart. Massive, mirror bright, gray galena is the matrix for the two generations of fluorite. The first generation is gemmy, pastel green that is supplanted by gemmy, nearly colorless, stepped growth of cubes modified by octahedral faces. The largest of the latter generation measures 2.3 cm across. REALLY neat specimen, quite different from the crowd...
The sculptural quality and aesthetics of this specimen are exquisite - as is the quality. Add in size, and you have a MAJOR Naica fluorite here! Massive, black sphalerite is the matrix for gemmy, bi-colored, pastel green and pastel lavender fluorite crystals, to 4.5 cm across. Color is very rich for Naica. These are cubes with modifying octahedral faces. They also exhibit stepped growth. One incredible characteristic of this specimen is that the back side of the fluorite came off the pocket wall and was later rehealed with some growth over the contacted face there, making this technically a floater with no open attachment points. The combinations of all the factors listed above make this the finest specimen yet of this update.
An incredible LARGE specimen with bi-colored fluorite crystals, to 4.0 cm across perched on splendent, black sphalerite crystals to 1.5 cm . The fluorite crystals exhibit both pastel green and pastel lavender colors - and intense saturation as well. The crystals are SUPER GEMMY and transparent. The gemmier cubes are modified by octahedral faces. Only around the periphera is there even the smallest amount of contact. Overall, especially taking in teh size, this is an important and impactful specimen of significance for the locality and yet, compared to even the prices on relatively mediocre Chinese fluorite nowadays, these Mexican treasures just seem to be for some reason priced at a lower setpoint. I cannot say why, its just the way it is. One would think, as these are fewer and more rare, and historic for the locality, they'd cost more than a medium-level piece from a mine in china producing by the tonne. But, it just doesn't seem to hold. I ambasing these on cost, not wishes, sadly.
A HUGE SPECIMEN, all floater, and all of huge crystals! The shape of this intergrown cluster of gemmy, bi-colored fluorite is slightly hemispherical. This floater is composed of cubes modified by octahedral faces and has both pastel green and pastel lavender hues. The crystals are exceptionally transparent and the largest crystal is 8 cm across. Very lovely and important fluorite for the locality!
A beautiful combination piece! This has clusters of gemmy, bi-colored fluorite crystals, to 3.0 cm across, exhibiting both pastel green and pastel lavender hues. The crystals are cubes modified by octahedral faces. There are also two clusters of lustrous, black sphalerite to 3.5 cm across perched among the fluorite crystals. As an added effect, there is a thin drusy crust of white quartz draped over both the fluorite and sphalerite. All of this is underlain by a matrix of galena, sphalerite and pyrite. Overall a very visually impactful large specimen at a moderate price range, I thought.
The most exquisite miniature in the lot! This fantastic crystal is transparent and sharp as can be wished for, complete except for a small contact in the back. Aesthetically perched on a matrix of splendent, black sphalerite, are two equant, gemmy, pastel lavender fluorite crystals. The large one atop is about 3 cm across. The fluorite crystals are cubes modified by octahedral faces, classic for Naica.
Gemmy, pastel green intergrown fluorite crystals, to 4.0 cm across, comprise this specimen. The crystals are cubes modified by octahedral faces. There is very slight peripheral contact near the base of the specimen but it is complexly crystallized all around, otherwise. Dramatic either vertically or horizontally!
This cluster of gemmy, bi-colored fluorite crystals, to 5.0 cm across, exhibits pastel hues of green and lavender. The crystals are cubes with modifying octahedral faces. I can find no contact/damage anywhere on the display. The crystals are huge, gemmy, and perched so elegantly one atop the other to display that largest 2-incher atop... Just a fine Mexican fluorite!
