These came out in modest numbers for only a short time, then became scarce and expensive. It is quite hard now to find nice-looking, isolated, undamaged crystals on matrix, and the Chinese dealers value them highly and charge plenty for them. This 4.8-cm crystal is complete and undamaged, sitting perfectly on a nicely-trimmed matrix. Another exciting find of fluorite in China which has basically dried up on the market (see recent Min. Record China issue for more on these). 8.1 x 8.0 x 4.4 cm
This is quite simply the largest fine Ruyuan fluorite specimen I have ever seen or know about. These fluorites came out in modest numbers for only a short time, then became scarce and expensive (see recent Min. Record China issue for more on these). It is quite hard now to find nice-looking, , undamaged crystals on matrix, and the Chinese dealers value them highly and charge plenty for them. This was a rare fluke, found at the Costa Mesa show. Believe it or not, despite its size, the crystal is UNDAMAGED and complete all around – measuring 12 cm across (!!) – with just a bit of matrix to add an accent. It has gorgeous crenellated terminations. A wonderful and important fluorite specimen! 13.8 x 9.8 x 8.2 cm
These fluorites came out in modest numbers for only a short time, then became scarce and expensive (see recent Min. Record China issue for more on these). It is quite hard now to find nice-looking, undamaged crystals on matrix, and the Chinese dealers value them highly and charge plenty for them. This is a BIG (7.5 cm across the edge), sharp crystal on matrix. In back, you can see how the crystal stopped growing, then restarted – what you see on the surface of the front is actually a half-centimeter overgrowth of the original crystal, making this technically a phantom! This later generation of growth actually formed small octahedrons in the back, on the surface of the original octahedron! The crystal is complete and undamaged all around except for one smallish cleave – very good condition for one of these. 16.9 x 9.4 x 6.9 cm
This is an extremely unusual and beautiful Okarusu fluorite, of good size, with BRIGHT GREEN color (a more intense green that even the photos show) and splendid glowing transparency. Under a decent light (such as the lighting in your average case) it glows like art glass! Hints of purple here and there show its Okarusu origins. The crystals have beautiful edge and corner modifications, to boot. Specimen is sawn flat on the back as are many Okarusu pieces, in removal from the pockets. That does not show from the display. It really is quite impressive 10.8 x 8.1 x 2.6 cm
This is an extremely aesthetic specimen, with two transparent purple cubes intergrown and perched just right on the matrix to create a perfect display face. NO damage – pristine! They say that the Yaogangxian is the best fluorite mine on the planet and pieces like this explain why! 7.3 x 5.1 x 5.1 cm
You would be amazed at how quickly Elmwood stuff has disappeared from the market following the closing of the mine, and the prices are going straight up. This specimen features three main fluorites with some little ones, on sphalerite. The largest crystal shows one of the unique gemmy yellow corners that are characteristic of the larger purple fluorites from this mine, sometimes cut into gemstones (this crystal has a contact on the back where the piece was removed from matrix, but all crystals are complete on the display face). The large crystal is about 3.5 cm on edge, the smaller ones about 2.5. 7.0 x 4.7 x 4.2 cm
A pristine, transparent purple fluorite, on a BIG, sparkly, deep red compound sphalerite crystal, all perched on a thin matrix of dolomite. It is harder and harder to get fine pieces like this from the Elmwood and nearby Gordonsville, now closed for good. 6.2 x 4.3 x 3.6 cm
One of the largest and richest for color that I have seen from the recent finds at an undisclosed location in the hinterlands of New Mexico. This is a THICK (nearly 4 cm!) crust of deep green fluorite (it actually started out purple as you can see where the crystals meet the matrix) with octahedral forms on the “pebbly” surface. 13 x 9 x 6.3 cm
This gigantic, gemmy fluorite crystal (a bit greener in hue, in person) is actually a compound crystal – you can see the fascinating join line running down the middle. It is complete all across the display face, with even the back of the specimen crudely crystallized and just contacted a bit at the bottom. The forms are so modified that it is hard to describe the crystal properly from a crystallographic standpoint. You just have to respect a transparent crystal of ANYTHING this big, especially a transparent and pretty fluorite! WEIGHS OVER 3 POUNDS!! 12 x 11 x 7 cm
A razor-sharp, water-clear cube of fluorite measuring 1.7 cm, isolated on matrix. On the back is an even larger cube, but is is contacted so this is the preferred display face. These old-style cubes have gotten really hard to find. There is a tiny corner ding, but as you can see from the pics it is quite hard to see except on close examination. This piece can easily be trimmed into a miniature if you prefer. 9.0 x 5.4 x 3.6 cm
The main cluster of crystals here is perched well up off the matrix, allowing light through and really lighting up these fine complex crystals with the characteristic pebbly surface, from 2003 finds at Dalnegorsk. 5.4 x 4.2 x 3.2 cm
An amazing specimen with absolutely top color and gorgeous gemminess! THis is very 3-D and sculptural, and consists of two generations of fluorite: a sharp cubic form with glassy faces and gem interior, perched atop a previous generation of yellow fluorite. Where the later fluorite is deposited, the internal yellow cube faces are protected from the etching that seems to have selectively dissolved the rest of the yellow fluorite , leaving behind this weird specimen showcasing wonderful cube faces perched on stilts of yellow fluorite. I don't know how else to say it. it is pretty neat in person....more so than the pics indicate 6.2 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm
5.9 x 5.4 x 5.3 cm. Intensely purple, highly lustrous, translucent fluorite cubes to 2.6 cm with beautiful, shimmering, stepped-growth faces form an excellent specimen from Musquiz, Mexico. The cubes also have nice color zoning. The bit of calcite hidden in a crevice and on the matrix is a nice accent and adds a bit of amber to the backlit photo. This is nearly pristine, excellent material from this locale. Ex. Consie Prince Collection.
Elongated, medium purple cubes on white quartz from the world famous Weardale area, highlight this specimen. Crystals over 6 cm long, penetration twinning, along with a matte luster make this old piece extremely collectible. The piece fluoresces like a banshee as you'd expect from a fluorite form the namesake locality for the very word fluorescence. There is some damage - a few claeved corners and breaks around the periphery. 12.7 x 12.3 x 10.2 cm
A rich, gorgeous cluster of gemmy purple fluorite twins from the sought-after old locality of Fraziers Hush! These highly-fluorescent crystals are so lustrous, they look almost WET. They measure up to about one centimeter across. Very nicely trimmed into a perfect small cab size. 6.2 x 4.0 x 3.7 cm
