AN INCREDIBLE and UNIQUE Indian CABINET specimen of two complete and pristine, translucent, golden-amber , mushroom-shaped, yellow fluorite crystals to 5.0 cm . They sit on crystallized quartz matrix flanking a quartz cast after a dissolved apophyllite crystal from Mahodari. The bottom of the pseudomorphed cast is open and leads to a hollow cavity! Truly a one-off specimen! Valued at $1500. This is an AMAZING specimen that is unlike any others we have seen on overall aspect, though of course there were some of these odd botryoidal fluorites available for awhile (now not as common). Botryoidal fluorite in general is very rare and from other localities tends to be ugly and grayish, whereas these translucent amber-colored fluorites from India make for much more spectacular display pieces. THis one, I think, kinda looks like a frog. 11.6 x 10.6 x 6.7 cm
A SUPERB and AESTHETIC Elmwood Mine specimen of a highly lustrous, translucent and etched purple fluorite cube with excellent edge phantoms and topped with two pointy "ears" of highly lustrous ruby-jack sphalerite crystals and a shock of sparkly dolomite crystals! Elmwood specimens of this quality are rapidly disappearing, due to the recent closing of the mine. 4.2 x 4.2 x 3.6 cm
13.7 x 8.9 x 7.0 cm. A huge specimen of galena matrix covered with gemmy, pastel-green crystals of fluorite. The fluorite crystals are to 2 inches, 5 cm. They are very transparent, deeply gemmy so that you can see into them to the matrix an inch or so underneath. The coverage is all around the specimen, 360-degrees, up and over all sides. A beautiful accent of jet-black sphalerite crystals hangs on one side. Weighs 1.5 kilograms. A major example from the 2006 finds here.
9.0 x 6.6 x 4.7 cm. Perched aesthetically on a contrasting matrix of silvery galena and stark white calcite, is a cluster of intergrown, glassy and gemmy spinel-twinned crystals of fluorite. The fluorite cluster measures 6 cm across. Minor, white calcite crystals, to 0.75 cm in length are associated with the galena crystals that reach 0.5 cm across. This is an appealing combination specimen from Naica with lots of contrast. The aesthetic perch of the fluorite atop the stalk of matrix makes it unusual, as does the twinning so evident in the crystal itself. This is a classic color, a pastel green hue, for the locale. Probably it was mined in the 1980s. This specimen was on loaned exhibit in the University of Arizona Museum for over a decade until my purchase of this collection in 2008. Ex. Dr. Miguel Romero Collection.
6.6 x 5.6 x 4.3 cm. Starkly isolated, discrete, modified cubes of glassy and gemmy, colorless crystals of fluorite, to 1.7 cm, are emplaced on a beautifully contrasting, brassy yellow druse of pyrite. Brown sphalerite crystals with gemmy highlights sit on the periphery of the specimen. The fluorite crystals are exceptionally well formed and the color and texture contrast is amazing. Small crystals, but big impact in this specimen.
5.2 x 4.4 x 4.3 cm. Botryoidal and sugary, white calcite is the matrix for two glassy and gemmy, lavender fluorite crystals, to 2.75 cm across. Both fluorite crystals exhibit stepped growth. An aesthetic miniature of a rare style for this locality. Ex. Dr. Miguel Romero Collection.
16.1 x 9.3 x 6.7 cm. A most unusual matrix of snow-white, botryoidal calcite, with spheres up to 5.0 cm across, is the host for discrete, glassy and gemmy, lavender fluorite crystals, to 2.5 cm across. Every fluorite crystal exhibits incredibly complex and dramatic stepped growth. The color contrast is also marvelous. I have not before seen fluorite of this particular style on this kind of matrix from here, and the Romero collection had just one large specimen. This specimen was on loaned exhibit in the University of Arizona Museum for over a decade until my purchase of this collection in 2008. Ex. Dr. Miguel Romero Collection.
11.1 x 8.0 x 6.4 cm. Aesthetically emplaced on matrix of massive pyrite is an unusually glassy and transparent crystal of pastel lavender fluorite measuring 3 cm across. The crystal exhibits slightly stepped growth with octahedral faces modifying the cube (accounting for the beautiful bevels on the edges). Minor white calcite crystals cover one of the fluorite faces, a nice accent. As an added bonus there are several lustrous, gray crystals of galena perched on a druse of yellow pyrite, adding to the overall sparkle of the piece. A classic combination specimen from Naica, but with an unusually fine fluorite, nice and isolated for the exhibition of its sharp crystal form. Ex. Dr. Miguel Romero Collection.
6.9 x 5.4 x 3.2 cm. This is just a wonderful, aesthetic combination specimen from Naica, among the most unique I can recall seeing. The matrix is a lustrous and translucent, doubly terminated, milky white rhomdohedral crystal of calcite measuring 5 cm across. Perched aesthetically on the calcite crystal are 3 complexly intergrown octahedrons of lustrous and translucent, lavender-purple fluorite to 2.6 cm in length. As if their intergrowth were not complex enough, they exhibit stepped growth which creates a myriad of reflecting facets. For added measure the fluorite crystals are studded with brassy yellow pyrite crystals, to 2mm across. Superb in every way, this is a unique specimen far beyond the usual combination. This specimen was on loaned exhibit in the University of Arizona Museum for over a decade until my purchase of this collection in 2008. Ex. Dr. Miguel Romero Collection.
7.8 x 7.0 x 4.6 cm. This piece is made up of three glassy and gemmy fluorite cuboctahedrons, exhibiting incredibly intricate stepped growth and subtle color gradations in person. The largest crystal measures 4.5 cm across and the color of all three is a light emerald green with slight amethystine color centers. All in all, a most unusual Naica fluorite from the heyday here. Ex. Dr. Miguel Romero Collection.
6.7 x 6.0 x 4.5 cm. Great aesthetics highlight this combination specimen with a matrix of galena. Aesthetically perched high on the galena is a single, glassy and gemmy, cuboctahedron of emerald-green fluorite, measuring 3.5 cm across. Wreathlike clusters of drusy, ivory-colored calcite surround the fluorite and accent it. The balance of the fluorite with the galenas also adds to make this a wonderful combination specimen for the locale, with most of its classic species on one piece. Ex. Dr. Miguel Romero Collection.
5.2 x 3.1 x 1.5 cm. Absolutely water-clear, very glassy and lustrous, intergrown, vivid purple fluorite cubes are aesthetically surrounded by tiny rosettes of lustrous, translucent, tan muscovite blades on this beautiful specimen from the famed Yaogangxian Mine of China. The quality of these fluorite cubes is superb. No damage.
18.0 x 14.8 x 9.3 cm. A striking, very sculptural, 3-dimensional, large cabinet fluorite specimen from a locality that has not produced specimens in any quantity, compared to other Chinese fluorite localities. The very pretty, translucent, sea-green, modified fluorite octahedrons each have thousands of tiny micro-stepped faces that give the crystals an interesting sugary/frosted look. The matrix is small, milky quartz crystals on massive quartz.
9.0 x 5.7 x 2.9 cm. Three parallel-growth bands of gemmy and lustrous, unique grass-green fluorite octahedrons form a dramatic and aesthetic specimen from the recent, very highly touted finds at Riemvasmaak, South Africa. The two large, discrete octahedrons on the top/side and crest/edge are 1.5 cm. This very fine piece is essentially pristine. These are contemporary classics. The color is intense, deep green; very nice.
8.9 x 5.7 x 4.0 cm. Absolutely limpid and beautiful, pastel-green fluorite cubes make up an aesthetic cluster from recent finds at the Xianghualing Mine of China. Several cubes reach 1.8 cm on this lovely piece. All of the cubes have very interesting, frosted, beveled edges. Pristine, except for periphery wear. This is contemporary classic material of excellent quality.
