8.3 x 5.8 x 4.4 cm. A 1.7 x 1.6 cm, gem-like, water-clear colorless to pastel-green fluorite cube with modified corners crowns the cluster of smaller fluorites atop the mounded matrix of crystallized galena, quartz and other sulfides. This is classic, older material from the mines at Naica, Mexico. Ex. Saller Collection of Germany.
A very unusual and interesting looking specimen of goethite encrusting green fluorite from the Okarusu Mine, Namibia. The large encrusted fluorite crystal looks like a castle tower with battlements. I have never seen a Okarusu fluorite like this amongst thousands of Okarusu specimens over more than a decade! 5.0 x 4.5 x 3.9 cm
10.7 x 6.5 x 5.0 cm. A pristine, sharp, 3.3 x 3.3 x 3.2 cm, glassy, transparent fluorite octahedron with faint hints of pink and green is set on the cabinet plate covered with smaller fluorite crystals and pearlescent, golden muscovite blades on this fine specimen from recent finds at Chumar Bakhoor, Pakistan. Highly representative of the species and locality.
5.4 x 4.6 x 4.2 cm. A beautiful, 2.7 cm fluorite cuboctahedron perched on quartz and sulfide matrix from the Nikolaevskiy Mine. The water-clear crystal has textbook crystal form and most of the crystal faces have an interesting silky, pebbly, lightly etched look. Ex. Ed David Collection.
5 x 4.4 x 3.6 cm. A lovely radial spray of gemmy Creedite crystals sitting atop green Fluorite, which provides an excellent and attractive contrast. The Creedites, which are perfectly clear and sharply formed, can reach up to about 1 cm in length as they drape the Fluorite. The association is very unusual. Very attractive and aesthetic. Ex. Marty Lewadny Collection.
19.2 x 15.6 x 6.4 cm. An impressive, old-time, large cabinet plate festooned with twinned, water-clear, light green fluorite cubes to 1.3 cm from the 1818 find at the Middlehope Shield Mine at Weardale. Some of the cubes have modified corners and most of the cubes have a pale purple layer just below the cube face. This large piece is typical of specimens from the 1818 White’s Level find. Ex. Dr. John H. Ward Collection. Superb purple fluorescence.
7.0 x 6.0 x 2.3 cm. An excellent specimen from the recent find at the Okorusu of Namibia. This specimen amply demonstrates the unusual variety of colors from this find - and this, the rarest of them, is a stunning golden yellow. The large cube is 2.9 cm and the crystals have gorgeous lustre and gemminess. Choice, beautiful and uncommon material from this noted locale which has produced so much green and darker material, so few yellows.
14.2 x 5.8 x 3.3 cm. A fine, sculptural, elongate cabinet fluorite plate. Until these lustrous, translucent, pink fluorites were discovered in Mexico, Peru and the Alps were the only sources for pink fluorite. These octahedrons measure up to 1.6 cm, and have vivid, deep pink color against the beautifully contrasting white matrix. The raised knob in the center, with the largest octahedra, is particularly noteworthy. No damage. Superb purple fluorescence.
6.9 x 5.6 x 5.6 cm. A highly lustrous, radial ball with robust, thick crystals to 1.5 cm perched on a bit of fluorite stalk. A very fine example for the size, with more color, crystal thickness, and that bit of pedestal stalk compared to the normal "balls". From the new find of July-August 2009.
7.1 x 6.6 x 5.8 cm. This piece has a gorgeous cluster perched atop a natural pedestal of smaller creedite and fluorite. The radial spray is complete all around, nearly pristine and has intense and uniform color. The individual crystals on this specimen spray out dramatically, and are very transparent. They reach 1.7 cm in size. From the new find of July-August 2009.
11.7 x 6.1 x 5.4 cm. Intensely orange crystals to 1.7 cm spray out form all directions along the top of a ridge of fluorite, which they encrust. This is one of the more dramatic pieces in the lot to my eye for the isolation and size of the crystals, and the fact that it is not a ball-shaped aggregate, but rather formed on top of a fluorite crystal cluster. From the new find of July-August 2009.
7.0 x 6.1 x 5.6 cm. This piece has a gorgeous creedite cluster perched atop a natural pedestal of fluorite. The radial spray is truly complete-all-around, like a disco ball frozen with orange lights shooting out of it. It is nearly pristine. The individual crystals on this specimen spray out dramatically, and are very transparent. They reach 1.7 cm in size. This specimen stands out to my eye for its completeness, balance, and the matrix. From the new find of July-August 2009.
3.0 x 3.0 x 1.6 cm. A stunning fluorite miniature from a very special, small pocket found at Pointe Kurtz in the early 1990s (before the more well-known "red pocket" was found in around 1996 or 1997). As far as I know, most of this pocket was offered to Richard Kosnar for his collection, and there they stayed until he passed away recently. A piece from this pocket, from the Kosnar collection, was on a recent Min Record cover, and this piece comes from the same lot, having identical color in person. The color is an intense red-maroon hue, with a touch of purple at the barest edges of the crystals as you can see in the photo...really deeper than red or pink fluorite from other locales. These crystals are pristine and complete. This is a well-balanced miniature, with the crystals perched on crystallized adularia.
16.7 x 12.6 x 6.8 cm. A large, old classic from this ancient fluorite mining district, here we have a complexly colored specimen from the Obodda collection. Herb Obodda had, until the mid-1990s, one of the finest and most comprehensive fluorite collections ever assembled. Such large examples are rare, today. Weighs 1760 grams.
10.0 x 6.3 x 5.0 cm. An aesthetic and excellent cabinet fluorite specimen from the recent finds at Riemvasmaak, South Africa. This fine piece of gemmy and lustrous, unique grass-green fluorite octahedrons is dominated by a 3.0 cm octahedron. These are contemporary classics. The color is intense, deep green.
