5.2 x 4.8 x 3.1 cm. Lovely, sparkly spheres of lilac fluorite richly cover the granite matrix on this fine specimen from a classic French locale - Buxieres-les-Mines in Auvergne.
4.5 x 3.1 x 2.5 cm. This Swiss fluorite specimen is quite unusual. The lovely pink, moderately lustrous fluorite octahedrons are attractively perched on a lustrous, gemmy, tabular quartz crystal (itself transparent and sparkling underneath). The combination as a whole is striking and unusual, so you can see why it was long in the George Holloway Collection, a California collector and friend noted for his superb taste in miniatures and fluorites in particular. The locality, please note, is not the (relatively more) common locality for pink fluorite of Chamonix in France. Rarer are these pinks from Switzerland.
10.5 x 5.5 x 4.3 cm. A beautiful, cabinet combination specimen from recent finds at the Yaogangxian Mine of China. A striking "bouquet" of translucent, intergrown, light purple, stepped-growth face fluorite cubes is aesthetically perched on the side of a transparent to translucent quartz crystal. The termination of the quartz crystal is extremely interesting: three of the hexagonal faces above the fluorite are recessed, etched or are covered with tiny fluorites, while the back three faces are very glassy and two of the faces are included with green chlorite.
7.4 x 2.7 x 2.1 cm. A unique and very unusual quartz find now gone and done with, with specimens hard to get today after 3 years out on the market. A complete-all-around, lightly frosted, water-clear quartz crystal is included with crudely crystallized dark blue/purple fluorite. This showy piece is from a most unlikely for fluorite locality – Madagascar. Very nearly pristine, an excellent example from the find of perhaps 5 years ago now.
5.3 x 4.6 x 3.0 cm. A very interesting fluorite specimen featuring small pale green crystals of fluorite, of a cubic habit, perched on top of a previous generation of the more common sharp purple octohedra. You rarely see two habits of fluorite on the same rock from any locality, and the contrast here is very nice. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
4.7 x 3.9 x 3.5 cm. A complex, pastel-hued crystal of fluorite from this classic locale in New Mexico. Translucent throughout, it has almost a silky texture to it. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
9.5 x 8.5 x 5.1 cm. Small, pale green fluorites perched amidst sparkling quartz, a locality piece of some interest as good fluorite is rare from Arizona. From the Oregon Mine. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
4.2 x 3.2 x 2.9 cm. A bizarre Sweet Home specimen with sharp 1-cm fluorite crystals that have oriented white zoning to them. I have heard some people label these as fluorite altering to quartz, but I have no proof of this and suspect instead it is rather included or colorless fluorite, deposited in some unusual direction-oriented effect. Nevertheless, the result is really shockingly stark phantoms within the fluorite crystals. Note the fluorites are gem clear, internally, and have a lavender color. The largest fluorite sits on top of a very gemmy 1-cm rhodochrosite rhomb, of superb color and lustre. Minor quartz is in association, as is tetrahedrite. Somebody carved the matrix very close to the crystals with a saw to get the pocket out of the big rock it was probably stuck in, and so saw marks remain on the edges. From the Fluorite Raise. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
4.7 x 3.3 x 2.3 cm. An unusual fluorite locality. Here we have sharp quartz growing out of the fluorite - usually it’s the other way around. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.
12.6 x 9.9 x 6.3 cm. Cubes of translucent, rich purple fluorite, to 2.0 cm across have been overgrown by hemispheres of tan, sugary baryte, to 7.0 cm across.
4.3 x 3.0 x 3.0 cm. A beautifully sharp, textbook fluorite octahedron strikingly impaled on a quartz crystal. All of the crystal faces, except for one unique, narrow face, are lightly frosted on this water-clear, colorless beauty. Classic and very choice material from the famous mines at Naica, Mexico and the Jaime Bird Collection.
6.7 x 5.1 x 4.5 cm. An interesting and very showy pseudomorph from recent finds at the Shangbao Mine of China. Sparkly, drusy quartz has pseudomorphed sharp calcite scalenohedrons on this excellent, damage-free specimen. The large pseudomorph is 4.7 cm and you can see where this and another crystal have been partially dissolved away and then pseudomorphed. Fascinating. Furthermore, the drusy quartz-covered base is sea-green fluorite.
4.9 x 4.6 x 3.8 cm. These classic blue French fluorite specimens are now difficult to find. This outstanding, transparent, stepped-face cube has incredible blue color zoning and a gorgeous, sea-blue color. The frontal view is pristine on this excellent piece from the famous Le Beix Mine, Auvergne. Excellent purple fluorescence.
5.4 x 5.2 x 2.8 cm. A very showy, incredibly stepped-faced, green fluorite specimen from Naica, Mexico. The complexity of the stepped-faces on this super glassy and lustrous piece is amazing. The three prominent, flat-topped, cubic terminations have all the appearances of stepped Mayan temples and the piece is beautifully dusted with tiny calcite crystals. The back of the piece is attached to a bit of galena. This classic, textbook, Naica fluorite material and was self-collected by Jaime Bird in the 1970s. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection.
12.3 x 6.3 x 3.2 cm. Until these lustrous, translucent, pink fluorites were discovered in Mexico, Peru and the Alps were the only sources for pink fluorite. These octahedrons measure up to 1.3 cm, and have vivid, deep pink color against the beautifully contrasting white matrix.
