8.3 x 6.4 x 3.4 cm. Lustrous, color-zoned, purple fluorite cubes to 5 mm are aesthetically scattered on the knobby, 3-dimensional matrix of white albite crystals on this fine specimen from the Summer, 2008 find in the Monster Pocket at the Dreamtime Mine of Teller County, Colorado.
9.0 x 8.5 x 4.3 cm. Scintillating, azure-blue linarite blades to 8 mm richly cover the quartz matrix on this fine, older specimen from the Blanchard Mine of New Mexico. There are even some light purple fluorite cubes on the top edge of this classic specimen from the Dennis Mullane Collection.
4.8 x 4.4 x 2.1 cm. This excellent specimen is from the amazing rhodochrosite find in China last year - a beautiful combination specimen, where you have not only a spearhead-shaped, flattened rhodochrosite rhomb, with glassy, deep cherry-red color, but also rich covering of glassy, transparent, light purple fluorite cubes to 5 mm on the second generation of low-temperature rhodochrosite. This is a complete all-around rhomb.
2.9 x 2.3 x 1.9 cm. A very rare Nevada specimen from a very uncommon mine near Wellington, Nevada of an excellent, complete all-around cluster of sharp, lustrous, translucent, gray fluorite cubes highlighted by scattered iron oxides. This is a near floater specimen. Ex. Dick Jones Collection. Excellent purple fluorescence.
18.8 x 16.2 x 8.4 cm. A huge, sculptural, large cabinet fluorite specimen from recent finds in Chenzhou Prefecture, China. Glassy, translucent, sea-green fluorite cubes to 13.5 cm make up the piece. The cubes have stepped corners, some the crystals are lightly frosted and some crystals have a quartz overgrowth.
25.5x 18.5 x 4.8 cm. A dramatic, large cabinet fluorite plate from recent finds in China. Rich grass-green, lustrous, and translucent, highly-modified, stepped-growth fluorite cubes with a globular appearance make up this sculptural and striking specimen. China has produced an amazing variety of fluorite specimens over the past few years and this is certainly a fine and large one.
6.5 x 5.8 x 4.0 cm. Incredibly bright lustre, glassy, sea-green fluorite cubes to 2.6 cm are piled up on a bit of sulfide matrix on this striking and aesthetic specimen from recent finds in China. The water clear, interpenetrating cubes reach 2.6 cm on this eye-catching piece, which is very nearly pristine.
18.0 x 12.9 x 11.8 cm. A stunning, large cabinet fluorite and quartz specimen from recent finds at De’an Mine, China. A huge, 9.0 cm, translucent, frosted, green, cuboctahedral fluorite crystal rests on a pedestal of etched, snow-white quartz and has a quartz "cap". The giant fluorite is fabulously complimented by four purple, cuboctahedral fluorites to 3.0 cm and a colorless octahedron on one side. Two, jauntily angled, intergrown clusters of sharp, purple and green, fluorite octahedrons to 4.7 cm top off this his dramatic piece. These fluorites came out in modest numbers for only a short time, then became scarce (see recent Min. Record China issue for more on these).
4.1 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm. This superbly balanced miniature specimen is a classic of the French alpine deposits. The crystal is complete and 3-dimensional, showing all sides as it is perched so amazingly freestanding on the granite matrix. It has sharp edges on the fluorite that are 2 cm on edge. The fluorite is undamaged save for a very tiny chip off the back of the upper tip, not seen from the display side anyhow. The crystal is gemmy and transparent throughout, razor sharp with no sign of the etching or unfortunate chlorite coating (and its removal) that mars so many of these alpine fluorites.
20.8 x 16.4 x 8.3 cm. This is a dramatic large specimen of aquamarine on its own merit, and as a bonus it has two subtly-colored octahedral fluorites perched in the middle of the aquamarine cluster. Each fluorite is approximately an inch, transparent and gemmy, and brilliantly sparkling from many etched faces. I have seen the association before, of course, but usually it’s a fluorite sitting at the edge of a plate, or loose and isolated on mica - seldom do you see the fluorites actually in the midst of the aquamarines. The plate is nearly pristine, despite its size, which seems a minor miracle of survival. It weighs in at 4.6 pounds, thus over 2 kilograms.
7.0 x 3.7 x 2.7 cm. These gemmy, water-clear fluorite cubes with brown centers are highly reminiscent of the famous fluorite specimens from Clay Center, Ohio, but are in fact, from one of several quarries at Newport, Monroe County, Michigan. The glassy cubes, to 6 mm, are richly scattered on both sides of the matrix and nicely accented by colorless to light amber, calcite scalenohedrons. An excellent two-sided, combination piece. Fluorite of this variety is not very common from this locality. Moderate purple fluorescence.
10.5 x 10.5 x 10.0 cm. A striking and rare cabinet orange creedite with fluorite specimen. This large, pincushion-like specimen of connected intergrown balls of creedite and covered with gemmy, burnt-orange to colorless crystals is dramatically highlighted by a 4.5 x 3.7 cm, sail-like wedge crystal of lightly etched, translucent, sea-green fluorite. Good creedites were rare from any locality, until these orange ones were found in Mexico. Then, the mining was finished, apparently for good.
9.5 x 8.0 x 7.3 cm. An aesthetic and excellent fluorite specimen from the recent finds at Riemvasmaak, South Africa. Gemmy and lustrous, unique grass-green fluorite octahedrons to 6.5 cm are well clustered and are nicely complimented by a bit of starkly contrasting quartz. These are contemporary classics. The color is intense, deep green. Vivid, Weardale-quality, purple fluorescence.
This is from a very small find in the Moroccan desert that has been abandoned for now due to the terrible conditions of collecting and the difficulty of removing the specimens. They never did appear in quantity in vugs, so they had to be found and excavated one at a time, and eventually, the miner decided it just wasn''t worth the pain. Too bad, because they are gorgeous. Crystals on this specimen measure to over 2 cm on edge, and are complete, with natural contact on the back side where removed from matrix. No damage! 6.5 x 5 x 4.5 cm
9.1 x 6.5 x 4.2 cm. Intergrown, water-clear, "invisible", cuboctahedral fluorite crystals are very aesthetically strewn along the crest of the matrix on this outstanding, two-sided specimen from the Nikolaevskiy Mine at Dal’negorsk. The crystal interiors have beautiful rainbows in good light. Specimens of this quality came out in the early 1990s and are now available only from recycled collections. This piece is in amazingly good condition, as the fluorite crystal cluster is pristine. Ex. Ryan Bowling Collection.
