Fluorite, Quartz from Taolin Mine, Yueyang City, Yueyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China [db_pics/mdpics/MD-235609a.jpg]

10.0 x 6.7 x 4.3 cm. An unusual specimen from a find several years ago, with intense green fluorite - a single cuboctahedron that looks like it was sprinkled with sugar. It is nested in a thin plate of brilliantly sparkling quartz, with ivy-like growths of quartz that invest the fluorite in 2 places. A fine specimen from an unusual find at this less productive mine.

4.8 x 3.3 x 3.3 cm. An outstanding miniature I have yet seen from this pocket, and a most unusual piece for this mine, with a rich purple color. This is from the dolomite pockets at the end of 2008. The crystal is 3 cm across, translucent, and complete all around. It is beautifully formed, and has a really good contrast with the lustrous dolomite matrix.

9.4 x 5.1 x 2.1 cm. An unusual, thin, elongated plate of intergrown crystals. The color is varied between purple and green hues, sometimes mixed. This is from a small prospect, which has produced very little over the years, and was found in 2004-2005.

6.2 x 4.2 x 5.3 cm. This piece features a solid pedestal of fluorite with a single larger crystal atop, nicely decorated with a sugary coating of quartz on one side, and fat milky crystals on the other, with the green fluorite popping up in between. Unusual.

6.9 x 6.0 x 3.4 cm. A most unusual piece for this mine, with a rich purple color. This is from the dolomite pockets at the end of 2008. The crystal is 2.1 cm across, translucent when strongly lit, and intensely purple. There is a really good contrast with the lustrous dolomite matrix and minor bits of sparkling pyrite.

These beautiful green fluorites are from a new locality in the mountains of Grant County , New Mexico! A friend of mine has started a new claim working in these rugged mountains, pulling out these bright, lustrous green fluorite specimens which are quite different from the more famous and classic purple octahedrons formerly seen from claims in these mountains! . The crystals on this piece started out purple, and then shifted color to green as the solution flowing through the pocket changed. From the side, you can clearly see this color shift, and from the display face, you can see purple shadows through the fine translucent green crystals. 7 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm

7.2 x 5.5 x 2.9 cm. Until these lustrous, translucent, pink fluorites were discovered in Mexico, Peru and the Alps were the only sources for pink fluorite. These octahedrons measure up to 1.6 cm, and have vivid, deep pink color against the beautifully contrasting white matrix. An excellent, sculptural plate.

The find of the year has been these incredible fluorites from China, with large, razor-sharp crystals, and gorgeous color (in the best specimens, such as this one) that grades from green cores to purple exteriors. This one is just tops in every way. There are crystals here to almost 5 centimeters tip-to-tip, with no damage, evenly balanced across the contrasting stark white quartz matrix. 18.5 x 13.8 x 4.5 cm

10.9 x 5.7 x 4.6 cm. An excellent and aesthetic cabinet combination specimen from a new find at the Dreamtime Mine of Teller County, Colorado. A 5.0 cm, pristine, translucent, lustrous, doubly terminated smoky quartz crystal dominates this piece. The rest of the piece consists of smaller smoky quarts crystals with microcline. Scattered about are color-zoned, purple and colorless fluorite cubes to 1.2 cm. If you look hard, there are even a couple of small rose quartz crystals in a cluster. Ex. Adam Sotomayor Collection, who also collected it.

Glassy, transparent, emerald-green fluorite cubes to 2.7 cm with vivid and unusual, purple color zoning form and excellent, 3-dimensional mounded specimen from the Okorusu Mine of Namibia. This fine, pristine specimen is highlighted by the largest cubes being at the top of the piece and the two, highly complimentary, doubly terminated, tan calcite crystals. Older, 1980s material from this well-known locale.
