An unusual specimen from the 1990s production here, this pastel-green cluster features a series of increasingly larger octohedra surmounting a natural base of more massive fluorite (though it is also crystallized). Wonderfully 3-dimensional and a classic style , now not seen very often for sale.

A terrific piece containing the dominant cubic and octahedral crystal forms of fluorite in crystals starkly adjacent to one another! The cubes are translucent, medium green crystals with both sharp corners and modified corners, but the piece is made by a superb 2.4 cm octahedron coated with contrasting stark white calcite. A must for serious fluorite collectors!

This a sharp superb example of the classic penetration twins that many of the Weardale mines are world-famous for. This Rogerly stunner is water-clear with the highly desirable green color and eye-popping purple fluorescence that all collectors strive to find. In some of the pics, in fact, you can see it start to fluoresce even in room light when sunlight is allowed in! ‘Nuf said!

For my taste, this may be the most aesthetic pyromorphite group I have seen from Chaillac. Start with a barite matrix and small yellow fluorites on the top right, then go to terraced shelves with bright grass green acicular groups of pyromorphites arranged like hanging baskets. True, the crystals are tiny but the whole effect is amazing!

A large crystal of gemmy, doubly-terminated, golden calcite measuring a whopping 11.0 cm across contrasts beautifully with its matrix of deep lavender, translucent, fluorite. This is certainly one of the largest and gemmiest of the style I have seen from the mine, which is now defunct as is the rest of the old fluorspar district here. The piece is really striking, in person, and has a pronoucned internal lustre to it.

Fluorite on Quartz from Deardorff Mine, Hardin County, Illinois, USA [db_pics/pics/93bqc.jpg]

A VERY IMPORTANT LOCALITY SPECIMEN!!! Open for only ten years in the mid-1900s, the Deardorff Mine is not one of the household names when it comes to Illinois fluorite. However, it had a unique association of fluorite and quartz which remains one of th emost sought-after Illinois classics to this day. For whatever reasons, quartz is rare in the other nearby mines, particularly in association with good fluorite. This association, is both dramatic and classic for the mine - if in somewhat larger size than we usually see. The fluorite cubes, to 3.75 cm across, exhibit good luster and near-transparency along with a fine pastel- blue color. There is almost no damage except the most trivial nicks...it is nearly pristine! When viewed from the side there is a hint of color zoning with purple overtones. The lavender fluorescence adds to the beauty of this specimen. But it is the merger of the history and rare association here WITH quality of the fluorite itsel fthat makes it so valuable. I have purposefully chosen to leave the piece uncleaned with modern technology which could remove the iron pocket-staining and make the piece look too modern and sparkly. I llike the old look, in this case. It just has the feel of something non-Chinese, if that makes sense?!

93CR - Fluorite - $ 750

Fluorite from Auglaize Quarry, Junction, Paulding County, Ohio, USA [db_pics/pics/93cra.jpg]

The Auglaize Quarry has produced many fine fluorite specimens, few more beautiful than this one. A transparent, very lustrous crystal of nearly colorless fluorite, 2.3 cm across, has a rich, lavender core, giving this specimen ethereal beauty. Being perched on matrix is an added bonus to the color zoning. Absolutely a world class miniature! These were highly sought after in the Ohio community when I was growing up and to my knowledge, few outside the locals have pieces like this (which Ed obtained from one of my own mentors, Ohio field collector John Medici).

The yellow fluorite cubes from the Hilton Mine have always been among the favorite specimens from the Midlands of England, and are very rare compared to the green and purple crystals which come out of many other mines while these typically come form jsut the old Hilton mine. This particular matrix specimen features several penetration-twinned, gemmy, yellow, fluorite cubes to 1.75 cm across, that are perched on smaller cubes of fluorite. The specimen fluoresces a rich lavender color. Very nice!

Unusual, yellow apatite in the form of a radial aggregate, dusted with minute specks of chalcopyrite. The surface of the hemispherical cluster has a multifaceted and sparkly lustre to it. There is microcrystalline pale-purple fluorite, which is very rare for the location, in association on the backside. The piece can be displayed vertically or horizontally.

Rolling hills of glassy and gemmy, sparkling, colorless drusy quartz are the matrix for frosted, translucent, pastel seafoam green octahedrons of fluorite, to 1.2 cm in length. The color, luster and texture differences, seriously enhance this specimen. Some parts of the quartz fluoresce a bright green but the fluorite crystals fluoresce an INTENSE neon purple

A thin septa of sparkling, colorless, quartz druse has allowed crystals of frosted, translucent, sea foam green, fluorite octahedrons, to form above and below the plate. Very 3-dimensional!!! . Average crystal size is 1.0 cm across but the cluster atop is about 3 cm. Under fluorescent light, the fluorite is an intense, neon purple. Very aesthetic specimen, elegant, and rich with this new fluorite.

Sometimes we are surprised by a new fluorite find, despite having seen so many before! This is a mesmerizing specimen, which Gamini selected from about 20 pieces I had obtained from this unusual pocket found in early 2008, showing SHARP square phantoms inside the cube faces. It is hard to convey the gemminess in the photos anyhow, so we aimed to shwo the phantoms and depth of color - suffice to say, it is more gemmy in person. Price includes specimen, painting, and custom lucite base for display.
