MD-121701 - Tapiolite - - Archived Baixão da Laje mine, Parelhas, Borborema mineral province, Rio Grande do Norte, Northeast Region, Brazil thumbnail, 1.4 x 1.3 x 0.7 cm.
1.4 x 1.3 x 0.7 cm. Tapiolite is actually a group name for the Ferrotapiolite-Manganotapiolite series. Iron and manganese can substitute for one another, and also the rare elements tantalum and niobium - two elements you almost never see in mineral specimens. Good crystals such as this are very rare! And this one is lustrous, sharp and complete, with shiny faces and only one contact on the underside. Ex. Carl Davis Coll., old piece.
MD-34319 - Stibiotantalite, Tapiolite, Quartz, Tourmaline, Albite - - Archived Cryo-Genie Mine (Cindy B-Cryogenie; Lost Valley Truck Trail prospect), Warner Springs, Warner Springs District, San Diego Co., California, USA miniature, 4.4 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm
This is a unique specimen, the best of its small pocket. It was in the Chris Korpi collection and he made a point to obtain many of the oddball things that came out of this small series of pockets we lovingly call a mine. This is one that he had kept for a reference suite, when I bought the core of his collection some time ago. It remains an interesting and unique piece. 4.4 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm
