5.2 x 4.8 x 3.4 cm. An oddly lightweight specimen of fairfieldite - a rare phosphate known in larger crystals now from other locales. But, this is the type locality (in 1879) for this important rarity. From the noted collection of William Drown, who, according to the Mineralogical Record Archive on him, was an umbrella manufacturer who used his fortune to amass a collection of some 6000 mineral specimens. His collection was kept by his family for a generation after his death and then donated in 1918. Ex. Philadelphia Academy of Sciences Collection.

Classic old material ! To find a Fairfieldite up to 1 cm is truly rare, but give it good definition, luster, and color as the largest crystal has here and you have a truly significant specimen. 2.9 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm

Apatite-(CaF), Fairfieldite - Foote Lithium Co. Mine (Foote Mine), Kings Mountain District, Cleveland Co., North Carolina, USA

This plate features equant, gemmy purple apatite-(CaF) crystals, to 1 cm across, nestled in a quartz vug. These are HUGE for the locality, and very colorful as well both as individuals and overall as a specimen. Sharp , bladed crystals of fairfieldite are interspersed around the base of the apatites. There is also a dusting of drusy quartz coating the terminal portions of the apatite crystals. 8 x 8 x 3.5 cm

An oddly lightweight specimen of fairfieldite - a rare phosphate known in larger crystals now from other locales. BUT, this IS the Type Locality (in 1879) for this important rarity so its worth acquiring for that reason primarily. From the noted collection of William Drown, whom according to the Mineralogical Record Archive on him was an umbrella manufacturer who used his fortune to amass a collection of some 6000 mineral specimens. His collection was kept by his family for a generation after his death and then donated in 1918 .
