The spear like crystals of ernstite, a rare manganese, iron, aluminum, phosphate, after childrenite, have given this specimen a burnt umber appearance. Brazil’s pegmatites are the receptacles for an incredible number of fine secondary phosphates. But most crystals of this material are slender and simply unappealing. This robust crystal, however, really is dramatic.
